A return visit and I finally got to have a beer on this Saturday afternoon visit. The main bar is impressive, with its large island beer and painted ceiling. Other rooms are equally well decorated and there is some nice tilework. It's a far bigger place than it looks from the outside. The two real ales were both from Knops - India Pale Ale & Black Cork. A decent place for a drink and much more down-to-earth than I had anticipated. The car park is opposite next to the sea wall. But take care crossing the busy road.

After a visit to the Ducks Inn in Aberlady (not listed on here), I tried to visit this place, nicknamed the Goth. It was a pub I was looking forward to visiting. But I arrived too late. The place had closed by 2:55pm on a Tuesday afternoon and the door was locked. A quick call to their telephone number revealed that they wouldn't re-open until midday the following afternoon and they wouldn't consider allowing me in for a swift half. I'll try to visit again some time later in my life and I should really have come here first before the Ducks Inn. But this is not a place you can get a beer in the evening (or even in the afternoon) at this current time. 0/10.

Great pub, right on the seafront at Prestonpans. Don't forget to check out the totem pole in the car park before going in. Inside the decor is arty with some nice touches of humour. Look out for the faces of locals in the ceiling decoration and in the mural on the way to the gents. Two home-brewed beers on, Fowler's Porter and Fowler's 80/-. The food is a cut above the usual pub fare and reasonably priced.

Back again with some friends - the seafodd platter was just great - many thanks. Goth Stout still available and good.

Walking the (overated) John Muir Way we passed this intriguing looking pub. Having had a skinful in the City the night before we were slow getting started. As noted in other reviews, they brew their own Porter and had when we visited one other ale on (cannot remember name - but it was red/brown in colour) - both ales were in excellent condition. Food looks good and the place is very well managed with highly unusual/ornate interior - bar is quality.

CAMRA National Inventory pub now restored to it's Edwardian glory. Check out the beautiful ceiling. The pub has it's own microbrewery, visible from the bar. With this in mind I was slightly disappointed to find only two ales on tap - one of which was Stewarts 80/-. However, the other beer, the pub's own Gothenburg Porter, was good. I also had a 'Gothenburger' which was delicious.
The pub's booklet claims to 'always have two or three ales' on tap. I asked one of the bar staff about this and she said they were having problems with equipment. I hope this is rectified soon. I liked the pub and would certainly visit again.

Nicely preserved pub on the sea front at Prestonpans, the small Fowlers micro brewery is visible from the bar. Beware only one beer was on, and I get the impression that sometimes none are available. About 15 mins walk from the railway station. Good kebab house closeby too.

Bussed out from Edinburgh to try out a pub which I had wanted to visit for some time. A very interesting interior - this is a big place with a number of rooms - and although I did not eat, the food looked good as it passed by. There are some interesting artefacts in connection with the history of Fowler's Brewery and other local matters. The home-brewed beers available were 70/- and Porter which were well-priced (the former only 1.85 a pint) and pleasant, if a little bland.

Whilst in Edinburgh in October '08, we went out of our way to visit this pub one lunchtime. No real ale available - though the Stewarts pump clips were still facing the punters. We were offered John Smiths or Lager! We declined and left. One of the "management" heard our conversation with the clueless barmaid and made no attempt to apologise. When CAMRA goes out of its way to publicise pubs like this, why do the pub staff let the whole thing down. Presumably this is already in the 2009 Good Beer Guide.

I visited this pub full of expectation only to find that the brewer has left and the micro brewery closed down. What a shame all the hard work and investment has come to nothing.Staff not that friendly - ownly the food wil keep this place going.

Decades ago this was one of the roughest pubs in East Lothian. Now it has a pleasant bar and a spacious bistro. Own-brewed Fowlers Ales are excellent, the food splendid and the staff friendly. Lothian Buses service 26, every ten minutes from and to the centre of Edinburgh, stops at the door (2.30 for a ticket valid on all their services all day). Not to be missed, and you could take in Staggs (the Volunteer Arms) in Musselburgh on the way back.

An excellent micro-brewery pub, where the Porter and IPA are thoroughly recommended. The pub was completely refurbished approximately 18 months ago, and is an entirely different pub from that which it used to be (it was a place to be avoided). A place worth travelling to if you love excellent beers and food. Although one of the regular bar maids (the one that appeared in the East Lothian Courier recently) is a bit rude and miserable, so that does reduce my rating score.
