user reviews of Ivory Rooms, Billericay

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The late may bank holiday saw a right old fracas here according to press reports. A number of people seriously injured when a couple of louts from the darker regions of Essex (suspected) decided to launch an attack on the local clientele for no apparent reason. Still, if you go to the Ivory rooms, do you need a reason?

Well presented on the outside, and the food in the restaurant is probably on a par with any other pub you can visit in the local area although you do get the impression that they think they're a few notches higher up the ladder than they actually are, service on the Saturday night I was there was ..... disorganised to say the least, although value wise I'd say that 25 for three courses was just about fair.

This is a venue that doesn't really know what it is, on the one hand they want a fine dining experience in the restaurant, yet on the other they want to host "Gentleman's" evenings with exotic dancers and blue comics (or on the evening I was there ad's for a night with an ex east end hard man)

Then we come on to the Bar area, which post dinner time in the evening is a total nightmare...too many people, too small a bar area with too few staff, and the type of clients that are best locked up in the evening (well 70% of the men anyway)

All in all, it's really another more modern take on the Circus Tavern for those of us who are old enough to remember !

Very well presented pub. Good service at the bar and a great selection of cocktails. Got really busy as the Night went on and had difficulty in getting served, bar area is a little small.

This place gave me the oportunity when i first came to england to meet great people and have such a really good time.
Just a few of the good people who i know are still there.
I can say many good things about it, so many, but i do understand that people don't like(now)the Ivory rooms but i'm sure that in no long time you'll like it because, now, the right people is doing well in that place, it's a pity that the people who was working there before(at the begining)is not there to enjoy it(like me).
I hope all of you are doing very well,That tall men in the kitchen, that sexy cocktail waitress, the eyes always there of course, the crazy man with crazy hair...well just say that i remember you all guys!!!!see you.Marta, the spanish,Martha wathever you want.

To be fair to this place, it does serve a purpose. It's ok to go for a few reasonably quiet drinks on a weekend evening and I've had a few good nights in here. It's clearly never going to be a real-ale lovers paradise.
There are, however, a plethora of orange women (the oompa-loompa look has never done it for me) and men with too much hair gel. Therefore, Saturdays can be a bit of a sausage fest with gelled-up geysers in stripy shirts looking for the aforementioned tantastic girls.
The doormen are always very polite though.

Totally agree with the last comment. Why should people who hold personal grudges bring the place down????
The place is fab don't miss out just because a few ladies were unhappy with their personal experience.
Grow Up people!!!!
I will so be there on Friday xx

The Ivory Rooms is a great place to eat & drink I have no idea why all these people have such a problem with the place I think it's fantastic!!!
There is a great atmosphere any day of the week. Considering I don't live in Essex but have many friends who do we always have a great time when we decide to start our weekend there.
Its also a great place to have a meal with friends or family as the food is lovely and I have never been disappointed with the service provided.
Taking the previous reviews into account I believe the people who are posting them are very MEAN and clearly do not have any idea what they are talking about!!!!
Try actually visiting the place and your views will soon change!!

haha johnpaul says he had his 60th here, and then he can recommend friday and saturday nights! ridiculous. he must be at least 80 years old!

The Ivory Rooms Restaurant is probably just about the best restaurant experience that I have ever had. I visited today for Sunday lunch, the atmosphere with the pianist playing all lunchtime was amazing. You don't get that at Prezzos. The waiters were excellent and the food tremendous and the bill less than I spent at the local cafe The Village Bar & Grill last week, 10 out of 10 from me.
peewee48 - 4 Dec 2006 01:04
The ivory rooms, great atmosphere, top cocktails, great staff, some of the best bartenders in the area top of their game!!!! Definately worth a visit on a friday or saturday night, without a doubt the best bar in billericay!!!!!

So amazed by the VIP treatment I received, it was our 60th wedding anniversary and the employees were the nicest bunch of people that Ive had the pleasure to meet in a long long time. The food & drink was out of this world and it really made our night.

The Ivory rooms: WOW! How different can a place look once its had a lick of paint? Quilters was a dirty dump!

I would respectfully ask that anyone visting this site and looking at the reviews should view some of them with the contempt with which they deserve. Whilst it is acceptable under this sites policy to criticise the Ivory Rooms for service, quality of food, ambience etc the disgraceful personal attacks levelled at members of staff is not.If you are thinking about visiting the premises please do not let what is obviously personal vendettas put you off, make up your own mind you will not be dissappointed. I can assure you that we strive to give the best service and food as you would expect from such an establishment. Should anyone be unhappy about their experience at The Ivory Rooms l am only to happy to discuss with them the problems they have had in the past or indeed if they have any in the future, just contact me at the site. I fully expect the company that operate this site to remove the personal attacks, leaving proper reviews good or bad, but at least genuine.

Unfortunately I was recommended this some time ago but it can not be the same place. 8 of us went for a meal which began by the booking having apparently not taken place - I asked for the manager who seemed completely un interested and blamed the girl I spoke on the phone. Then as it turned out there was plenty of room anyway. This is going to turn out no better than the previous comments - Good food but an appaulingly badly run shambolic place. I never complete these type of forums but please take it from me dont waste your time as there are perfectly good established eateries in the main part of the town.
Thanks for a crap night Quilters or whatever your called now.
jameshope225 - 21 Nov 2006 18:54
Poor old Quilters used to be a good night out - Yes it had the odd chav but was always entertaining.
I think as with most the comments you can see that this place is dying a death. I hear a number of senior staff have or are leaving and a new area manager has been appointed Matt's off and leaving the Twitching fairy. So only one bad apple left thats a start anyway.
Inject some life into this place - Billericay has some really good friendly pubs serving good food the Ivory IS pretentious, expensive, dull, hardly ever busy. So in if theres the slightest chance the owners see any of these comments do yourselves some favours get someone in to run this place that actually has a clue about the industry. This place is not the next "Sugar Hut". The food used to be good but you need people to talk positively about this place to make people want to come - All I hear is comments much like what is seen below.
Anyway Ive wasted enough time on this - You wont change my mind and I wont recommend this place.
georgedoors0007 - 15 Nov 2006 09:41
why oh god do they not get rid of the managers? they have no idea!the owner please take note for gods sake! your time is tunning out! matt will rule the world!

As a customer of Quilters, I recently visited The Ivory Rooms again and was plesantly surprised. We had a table booked in the resturant for a surprise birthday celebration and the service of the staff was fantastic. The food was amazing and the long running manager Matt, could not have been more helpful. It was also nice to see some friendly familar faces from the old days both behind the bar and on reception!
We have since been back on a couple of occasions and can recommend the live music on Thursday evenings with Jordan Marsh.
susanne07 - 26 Aug 2006 12:58
All I can say is get rid of the dead wood. The managers will drag this place under! They're focused alright......but not on their jobs! The owner needs to see it for himself. Should have left it as quilters - it was what it was.
anonymous - 23 Aug 2006 14:15
Quilters was bad enough. this place is so pretentiously up its own arse it is beyond belief. I see they still have the same managers there. Mr Goaty beard and that guy who just swans around and makes funny movements with his head. Are these guys out of their depth or what? Its gotta be no way to run an efficient business. No sign of these guys front of house. No sign of leadership, management, and responsibility. My next point are the prices. ridiculous. The blue boar is more appealing; there is no music but hey, the atmosphere is better than this upmarket morgue. Why try and be something they are clearly not? who goes in this place ever since they banned 17 year olds? you cant tell me that this place is making money.Id love to see their p&l accounts. superb. Thats the problem with independently run establishments, especially when they have had a lot of money spent on them; no direction, no appeal, and definitely no longeivity. and with the wrong people in there, disaster will ensue. Get a grip. Big up.

johnon52 - 23 Aug 2006 00:06
I can not believe the last comment was not entered by an employee. It is true this venue has had some money spent on it since the quilters days - but - it is small and has a strange atmosphere.
The food is very good, hats off to the chefs although I found what I presumed to be the restaurant manager extremely out of his depth. Apart from looking like he had been hired from a boy band he spent the entire time chatting up the female staff and swanning around. I spoke to a few regulars and it appears i was not alone in my thoughts. However we are here to rate the venue and unfortuantely with the severe lack of authorative ambience, by this I mean I would challenge anyone to actually pick out and spot a manager I can not see this place taking off. Maybe the chefs should come out of the kitchen and give it a go as the organsation in the kitchen clearly exceeds that of the front of house!.
pubgoer175 - 14 Aug 2006 15:09
the Quilters pub is no more and is now The Ivory Rooms. The owner has obviously spent a fortune on it and it has a fantastic bar with separate smoking room and restaurant. We recently booked the private room for a private party and we were delighted with the decor, service of staff and quality of food. We would not hesitate to recommend this place to our friends and will be going back to try out the resturant which looked lovely and we have been told is of a very high quality.
