user reviews of the Claddagh Ring, Hendon

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Hadn't been in here for a long while and was hunting for something to eat after fleeing the Greyhound where the new weekend menu consists of....nuts! Four different types mind you! The food Sunday afternoon in the Claddagh was good and plentiful. Not the cheapest roast around but very tasty and well served. Bar staff were excellent too. On this basis I tried during the week, sort of early evening for a drink and was surprised that it was very busy and the crowd were quite a pleasant lot. It seems it's all keg beer but I reverted to the Guinness which was fine. I have never seen so many tvs so it won't appeal to everyone and I have no idea about the club side of it as I saw no bouncers. However for my two visits the staff, all of whom were fairly young, were attentive and polite. Full marks to them.

This place is really rubbish. The staff is impolite and rude to clients. The doorman won't allow you to drink over the limit and you can't dance so you attract attention; the doormans are such idiots; they are coming from a different planet and have no basic manners to even discuss a basic conversation.
The food is rubbish, the music is rubbish and the drinks are expensive
It was definitely my last time when I enter that horrible place.
If you want to ruin your evening that's a place to go
ionmoraru - 10 May 2014 15:48
Pikey central innit. Add in a dash of bevied up Eastern Europeans who aren't shy about flexing a bit of muscle and you're one misplaced but of eye contact away from a trip down Golders Gr Road to the Royal Free.

Not even cheap. Even for Hendon, this place is terrible.
QueensParker - 6 Oct 2013 03:56
worst pub. staff are incredibly rude think they are better than they are. the food just seems like microwave meals. would not recommend this place to anyone.
chappers21 - 13 Jun 2013 21:08
Very well run large music venue/pub.The food is amazing, great too for watching football or rugby due to the many screens they have installed.Real nice interior with wood and also nice led lighting to give that modern feel.It is an irish pub but you don't have to be irish to enjoy a good night out in it.You have live bands that play rock based stuff like the killers, kings of leon, u2 etc.The djs are good and play a mixture of chart stuff plus old school songs as well. Its open late til 2/2.30am.The bar staff are friendly and polite as are the door staff. You need to bring photo i.d if your not a regular though. All in all a very popular place proven by large crowds at the weekend, its around 3 miles or so from wembley to use that as a landmark.Pop in to see for yourself.

I used to like this pub, had so many good nights in there, but now i have to say the quality of the place is going down.
The good bands started to disappear ( like the trips - we used to go just to see them in there, definitely the best band i`ve ever seen in there and i used to be sort of a regular on the weekends ).
The management and the bar staff is awful, me and my friends don`t see the point to put up with this place anymore.
That is my honest opinion.
Well done Claddagh ring, keep on having cheap bands playing now, who won`t even learn the lyrics, sings out of tune, because that`s what you think is entertaining nowadays?!
24hatgirl - 13 Oct 2011 02:12
I was chatting on Facebook to a friend tonight (I am so modern) who had just come back from here and not having been here for 6 or so years I thought I would pop on to have a look at what people had to say. The pub is terrible of course but the real find was Snarling Mallard...Exterior : 30's English Roadhouse Style Pub with mock Irish adornments. Haha, he could not be more accurate, read the rest of his reviews, the man is a genius.
JohnMcC - 14 Aug 2010 05:15
Exterior : 30's English Roadhouse Style Pub with mock Irish adornments
Interior : Second Rate Tacky Airport Bar
Beer : All Keg and expensive (virtually 'club' prices)
Ambience : Fightclub
It gets a one because it's okay for watching live football (there's enough screens so you won't miss anything) but be careful not to get drawn in to the "ambience".

You know that pub you tell your buddies about that is the worst pub you've ever been to, that one pub that sucks so bad that when you tell the story, you cant possibly be telling the truth, that it's most likely embellishment city, a tale to be told to amuse you and your friends over a pint, to make you feel better about the pub you're in at the time?

Well, people, this is it. This is quite obviously the worst establishment you will ever have the misfortune to step inside. I literally pity anyone who reads this and still decides to go in there, either through choice or because their buddies have left them no alternative, you'll regret it.

Good luck. You're gonna need it.
TapsPunk - 4 Aug 2009 21:35
Never really had a problem here but some of customers seem to get a bit aggressive after a couple of pints. Beers a bit pricey and 2 double gin and tonics came to 15!! Worth a look though
Beermanforever - 18 Mar 2009 21:32
agree with door staff - punch first ask questions later. they seem to charge by the look, so local scum go in free, we were charged three piound each and he stuck it straight in his pocket.... and it's no better inside - chavs, assorted travellers, and eastern euro-gangsters lurk with menace among the crowd. Beer ninjas all over the place nicking whatever bottle you leave alone. Without doubt the worst place in Hendon....
LOCALBEERMONSTER - 31 Dec 2008 13:10
If youy want a fight come here, the most unfriendly door staff in Hendon, my mate got decked by a polish git, and the door staff couldn't give a crap. rubbish bar avoid, i'd rather go to the greyhound or the Chequres then this crap_hole
hendon_native - 31 Dec 2008 02:30
Went in on Christmas eve to see what all the fuss was about - awesome live band, played some great covers. Nice place, been done out recently. Clientele leave a little to be desired, but overall not bad.
LexRicky - 27 Dec 2008 18:34
Was a good pub once upon a time!
Seems to have gone very bad though! the clientele are dodgier then ever. The regulars from years gone by seem to have dissapeared, and no longer want to go here. You just dont see the old faces there anymore.
Used to be agreat place for london irish people to go. Real shame. Has great potential, but the owner seems to want rid of the london irish crowd for drug dealers, and eastern europeans! Sort it out
jaydee4sam - 14 Oct 2008 16:27
this used to be a great pub a few yeard ago. however the clientele has changed, eastern european and sleazy! no fun anymore and way overpriced!! no thanks and wannabe irish english girls!
catatonia55 - 25 Aug 2008 21:17
At least your close to a road that heads to the North.
anonymous - 13 Sep 2007 03:20
For all those talking about wanting better bands...
The BibleCodeSundays play there now every Sunday and they are absolute magic. The best London Irish band in... well, in London!

Check them out, you will not be disappointed.
Fionn_MacCool - 2 Sep 2007 04:50
I think it was Billy Connelly who said that the Irish and the Scots often mistake the themed rubbish, which is assembled for tourists (think wee hairy highlanders, black and white pictures of noble looking peasants and signposts to Athenry) for the real culture. Hence its not a surprise to find an excessively oirish themed pub to be full of Irish ex-pats. That said, there is a lot to be said for the place and i'm pleased to recomend it.

First the bad stuff

The drinks are quite overpriced, except for the Guinness which is unsurprisingly fairly reasonable. The food is utter shite, unless of course you are shit faced to the point that anything tastes good.

Good stuff

Best night out in Hendon if you go on a night that isnt crowded and there are live bands on. Cant say I like the prices but without a doubt this place has a great craic and while thats still the case I'll heartily recommend it; just dont eat anything and get pissed before you go. Great having a place this lively in the suburbs!.

If you fancy going somewhere less themey try the excellent Bhodran down at Hendon Central.

BishopBeverage - 15 Apr 2007 15:43
Two bottles of Magners and Two Packets of Crisps for a tenner.

No thanks.

Try the Greyhound round the corner instead. It's cheaper and the beer is better.
vic_of_india - 3 Apr 2007 17:46
So was told Claddagh was the place to go now the Quays has lost it. Well been here twice in last 6 weeks. First time went we had a great time, few weeks later think the bar staff were the only people who could speak English. Night was pretty flat so had to get drunk on over priced drink and laugh at all around us........... Was good to listen to DJ Terry again as his replacement in the Quays must be a YTS trainee....................
Up_For_The_Craic_Birds - 9 Oct 2006 17:34
Went to The Cladders on Friday evening. Very disappointed with the band who were something out of a social club environment yet luckily the disco redeemed itself by playing better stuff. The majority of blokes in this pub are drunk losers, hanging around you whilst you are dancing - not pleasant. Drinks are a bit pricy but it was a good atmosphere all in all and I would go again if there was a better band playing.
Sozzle - 2 Oct 2006 08:56
A decent pub but like someone said you do get the occasional beered up pratlooking for a row.
Hamhead - 30 Jul 2006 22:12
I didn't need tickets two years ago and it doesn't say anything on the claddagh ring website about tickets.
diceysgirl - 13 Mar 2006 20:50
anyone know whats going on sat patricks? i know its gonna be busy so is it ticket only?
quaysfan - 13 Mar 2006 11:51
I got asked if I spoke english in this place. Clientelle has changed from what it used to be. Even with DJ Terry in there I don't think they can draw the crowd from the Quays
tullster - 17 Jan 2006 15:16
anyone know if its ticket only on new years eve?
anonymous - 29 Dec 2005 18:37
the refurb has been done really well. it seems a bit bigger, i think that bit on the front never used to be there. still got great atmosphere. best place in hendon, especially since they have ruined the poitoin (now the gallery)
anonymous - 29 Dec 2005 18:36
Half decent pub.
Gets busy with wannabee coppers from the nearby police traning school.
easyco - 27 Dec 2005 20:37
the place look brilliant with all the old crowd from 5 years ago back like it has been the last 2 weekends the future looks good, finbar has done a great job and i will be going back there after i had fallen out of love with the claddagh before it was done up, hopefully all the irish crowd will go back to make it what it was before, this will be THE place to watch the world cup as well.
anonymous - 21 Dec 2005 02:51
Look good but the drinks are over price
diceysgirl - 14 Dec 2005 18:32
The Claddagh Ring is reopening this friday. Let hope it as good as it was and better.
diceysgirl - 8 Dec 2005 18:07

quaysfan - 27 Oct 2005 13:05
Pub smells of toilets
anonymous - 19 Jun 2005 09:26
It doesnt smell must of been you you stinker
anonymous - 28 Apr 2005 15:54
I absolutely love the Claddagh Ring. Great night out with friends guaranteed. Bar staff are really friendly, bands are good and the atmosphere is just wicked. You can go for a big night out or just to chill out. 10 out of 10.
partygirllou - 28 Apr 2005 15:51
feck its not a miss kelly is it. Fr murphys super star. some drinker u are. All day sunday sessions the best. the church kingscross, then backpackers, then the claddagh some craic. must meet up when your over.
anonymous - 11 Mar 2005 02:40
Was a student nurse in the Royal Free Hampstead. The best nites craic we had there hi. Good regular crowd but always new faces. Good Gaa crowd for the matches. And you will always meet ones from home. Great spot sadly missed, but heading back for long session wkend with ladies footie team from Tyrone so beware.
anonymous - 11 Mar 2005 02:35
They say you never notice your own smell.

It does smell in there and the food is terrible.
anonymous - 6 Mar 2005 23:15
the sister pub to my all time favourite pub the quays. its really good in here (not as good as the quays obviously) but still a great night out. the bands are really good.

cant say ive ever noticed a smell of a pet shop. maybe it was coming from you!

quaysfan - 17 Feb 2005 19:17
The place smells like a pet shop and they have the cheek to charge west end prices!

But they have some good bands in there and it gets packed and has a good atmosphere.

The food's crap though.
Peter - 30 Oct 2004 14:46
The best bar for many a mile due to atmosphere, crowd & live music. Rarely any trouble there but expect to arrive home smelling like an ash tray and a bit sticky from other peoples drinks due to all that bopping in a confined space. Not many kids luckily and the 3 entry on the weekend is worth it even in suburbia. Hey and nobody here has mentioned the close proximity of the Kebab house for those of you who go on pilgramage to worship the rotating pole late in the evening...see you there!
Alan - [email protected] - 7 Oct 2004 20:31

Klara - 15 Jun 2004 12:34
fantastic live music and open late on the weekends. can get a bit overcrowded though!!! some nice lookin birds but the occasional prick up for a fight

anonymous - 31 May 2004 13:25
if you ever fancy going to a decent pub go to the claddagh ring. it's standard is fantastic the food is lovely and the staff are friendly. it's the best pub you'll ever find so don't bother going anywhere else because it won't be half as good as the claddagh.
susan dunne - 13 Apr 2004 15:55
Why has this pub got a 10 rating, is there nobbling afoot?
A 7 or 8 max.
Large mad Irish bar with live bands, but gets too packed on Fri-Sun. Cattle market.
anonymous - 5 Mar 2004 17:46
This is where I go every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday...the odd Saturday and occasionally on a Wednesday for the kareoke...You just can't put it down. The crowd are lovely, always has regulars and new faces and the bar staff are friendly and the lads are well fit! I agree with David, v.easy to pull! They have wicked Christmas parties as well. The best pub around in my opinion
jenny - 29 Oct 2003 20:24
loved it, used to be up there every week, great atmosphere, its not full of lairy lads its just full of police recruits durin the week, brilliant bands too.
anonymous - 25 Jul 2003 11:54
