If only it did proper ale, the pub would be near perfect.

Was pretty quiet for a Friday evening. Ordered a pint of the black stuff, girl half poured it, then went for her fag break - great service love! It does have a good range, mind.

If you are over 30, probably the best bet at the top of sutton for a stress free night

In response to Manikdc, I'd just like to point out that as O'Neils are the worst paying venue around, it's no wonder bands end up elsewhere. Remember also that the manager of the Sutton arms used to run the legendary Scruffy Murphy's back in the day!

I virtualy live in O'Neils and have done on and off for many years. It's easily the best and most reasonably priced pub around. Great atmosphere usually though since the smoking ban it has suffered the same problem as all the other pubs in that rather than the traditional smells of beer and tabacco it just smells of B.O, flatulence and sick.

O'Neils is deffinately the first call for live music in the area and they obviously pride themselves on that, not withstanding the recent attempt to cut it down though that move didn't damage them too much and I think they learned from that mistake.

They're not so big on bands and tend to favour buskers but although Alexis has been playing there since the year dot and is still yet to play a song through to the end, they do have some quality acts. Adam Temple for example is awesome and the guys that do the open mic are very entertaining. Shooter have made a few appearences on the occasional Saturday night too and that's always a good thing if you like live music.

The roof terrace is a god send for a smoker but does leave you feeling a bit segregated. A good effort though and to be apreciated.

A good place to be for a Sunday night to wind down and the food's quite paletable.

'Nuff said.

Don't give up on O'Neills just yet! The best bands tend to be hard to get in July and August as they're on standby for weddings and special events. It's a busy time for them but i'm sure they'll be back to the A grade standard soon enough. Plus, Sutton Arms book a lot of acts that start off at O'neills. In reality O'neills don't have to compete with the Arms but they do need to stop the manager trying to poach all the acts. Better beer, value, food and atmos at O'neills!

Went in on Saturday night and there was live music. Trouble is it was one guy with a guitar and a drum machine and it was terrible. Definitely need to do better in the live music stakes. Thing is with only the Sutton arms to compete with where live music is concerned do they really need to as the stuff down there is bad nine times out of ten.

The live music seems to have stopped lately. Like the roof terrace area. Not huge but nice set out.

Only three things to say about O'Neils Sutton:
Coffee knocks your balloxs off.... 8S

Three refurb's and the toilets still look like a concentration camp circa 1940...

The live music is excellent. Perticularly "The Undecideds" (Pip made me say that)

lita - 28 Mar 2007 19:25
anyone know what they are doing for St Patricks day in here??
MrKennedy - 15 Mar 2007 11:53
recently been given a spruce up and is much the better for it. The lay out is better and the big screen has been moved to the window so the sunlight doesn't effect the picture anymore. They need to up the quality of the bands in there as the two i saw over the weekend weren't the best, they weren't the worst either just a bit standard. although watching the band on Saturday i didn't give a rats arse about the music as the female lead singer was very easy on the eye.

Not a bad boozer, never seen any trouble in their and does a decent pint.... music is pretty good to

well worth taking a look...

Nice enough pub can get very hot in the summer , live music is great when on

One of the better pubs in Sutton
Britishbeef - 25 Sep 2006 13:30
Not a bad place for a quick drink before moving on. Staff are all pretty friendly but the manager should pay more attention to the way his customers behave when they're standing outside the pub or hanging out the windows making crude comments to people walking by or urinating in the alleyway. and just in case he isn't aware, you're customers aren't supposed to be walking around outside drinking. i've actually seen them giving the doorman at long island aggro too while the manager stood there watching and let them re-enter O'Neils straight afterwards. Hope he doesn't expect any help from the long island doorman in future as i doubt he'll get it.

Too right. Jen does a bloody good job in that place...and as for a smile..how about you cop yourself on and she'll give ya a smile
1Boozer1 - 30 Jun 2006 21:48
well if u call 5 nites a week not regular, thats up 2 u.i agree the manager doesnt do much, ive used pub 4 years ,even when it was old green man and at least i put my name.
pj99 - 8 Jun 2006 16:19
PJ - you obviously aren't a regular in the pub. As a regular in the pub, I know how hard Jen works, infact she's lucky if she gets one day off a week. She virtually runs the place as the manager is rarely there and doesn't seem to care either. Any good points with the pub are down to Jen.

O'Neills is is brillant in small doses, but if you like a bit of variety like my good self, it gets boring if your there all the time like I use to. Plenty of men there but not enough weird, strange and eccentric ones for me, so if you are a bit of a weirdo come have a chat with me, though i find it really hard to chat in there as its quite loud especially when your stuck near the speaker like me.

Im having my birthday booze up in there at the end of the month, everyone is welcome!

Rob and Martin rock!!!!!!!!! so does a certain other fella but won't mention his name, don't wanna give him a big head.
Little_T - 17 Jul 2005 17:19
Can't believe it, Gerry has left O'Neill's Sutton, this place won't be the same without him. He turned this pub into the best pub in Sutton.
anonymous - 7 Jun 2005 14:58
This is a brilliant pub, there's a really friendly atmosphere, the staff are friendly and you can always get served quickly. We always go for the live music nights on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, it's a good laugh. I also agree with 'Scott Robb', Gerry is a cool manager, he makes you feel welcome and always has time for you and keeps this place busy.
Serena - 20 May 2005 14:38
A great little bare boards pub that has excellent live music from Alexis on Sunday evenings.
palser - 9 Mar 2005 15:57
Oh wow, u HAVE to love the guy who does the Sunday night cover songs. What a friendly place to be drunk in too.
andrewjames2004 - 7 Mar 2005 13:45
Glad you like the pub Matthew, there is always a good atmosphere there, but as for there being no irishmen in sight, the manager is 100% irish and there are quite a few irish people who do drink in there regularly!
anonymous - 28 Sep 2004 16:44
The plastic paddiness of O'Neills pubs still grates after all these years- the '10 miles to Tipperary' decor, all the guinness memorabilia , no irishmen in sight, etc.etc. -but if you can put that to one side, this is a decent enough pub.
MATTHEW - 23 Sep 2004 17:25
Alexis rocks, and so do the people who play on a Thursday night (open mic night!).

This is the friendliest pub I've been to. It's got a real community spirit thing going on :-)

And Gerry's a cool manager!
Scott Robb - 9 Jul 2004 00:45
Great Atmoshpere, never any trouble, great for music, but would be fantastic if they had proper bands with real drums 'n' everything. Beer is always good, esp. Guinness. I lost my mind there years ago!!!!
Bald McCockney - 20 Jun 2004 06:24
Sutton O'Neill's is brill! The pub has always been good, but its looking great now after a big refurb and all new furniture etc. Also, it has a new manager Gerry, and he has made the pub alot better with a nice friendly atmosphere. They do floor service in there now aswell which means you don't even need to get up to go to the bar, its great!
Sarah - 16 Dec 2003 14:57
Nice friendly pub, good beer and the food is great. Get down there !!
E.M - 30 Nov 2003 15:45
top pub, some moody bar staff who may think they are someone special. Top landlord, also sunday league football team to support!!! Good beer, grub and company. Get down there and try it out
james - 27 Sep 2003 22:53
Alexis is the guy who plays sundays, he and the general atmosphere are amazing. Best night out in South London or the world, let alone Sutton
James Bruce - 13 Aug 2003 20:11
Thursday night open mic superb
love it
anonymous - 4 Jun 2003 02:06
we create the atmosphere, they supply the guiness, and as a general rule - you tend not to remember fuck all.
Dany C - 27 May 2003 17:06
