user reviews of the George, Holborn

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Could be worse tbh. Gastropub that exists entirely for tourists and after work drinks but not particularly horrible to spend a quiet hour here.

Previous reviews seem a bit harsh.

It does look and have a tiny bit of a wine bar feel to it, but it's spacious and airy. The pub itself can't control the invasion of masons from the enormous masonic hall across the road. Helps keep the profits up I suppose.

On the plus side, the Doom Bar, TT Landlord and the Aspall's cider are always spot on.

Plus the seated area out front is a very nice spot to sit and watch the ladies stroll past teasingly.

It's a much better pub than the awful Hercules Pillars 70 yards away.

strange modern looking place frequented by men in suits (Masons??). The Timothy Taylor Landlord was good quality when I visited and although the rugby was on I was at times the only punter.

The only downside was the toilets - very stinky!

The name "The George" conjures up images of a traditional hostelry with a roaring fire and a busty barmaid pulling pints of ale for the customers.

Nothing could be further from the truth in this case. The George is a modern bar on the ground floor of an office block. It seemed to be full of junior suits trying to impress Tracy from Accounts when I went in.

A minor plus is an outside drinking area but I really would steer clear of this one.

Small and full of drunk bods mainly in suits, Lacks any character really as its a modern building actually stuck under a concreate office block. It can't really maintain its Pub status as it looks more like a style bar without the style. A quick look at the A4 peice of crumlped paper for a menu put me off a bit to eat and it was a shame to see no formal bar menu on cocktails or offers. It does have a large outside seating area which is a bonus for cenral however the choice of covering for this proved funny when a group of advertisement chaps got repeatedly soaked when the wind lifted the water collecting in the gardens orning which hardly covers the outside space?

Used to go here a lot, thought I'd drop in the other week and it's closed down. Looks like the whole building is coming down

Wierd little place - have to go back and try it again, but seem to remember (7 years ago) a pool table and local brickies.

Very nice. Old, creaky, unpretentious, and fitted with Bulgarian and Polish barpersons as standard. Does what it says on the tin, providing the tin says, "This is a pub."
Lovely.

Love the place although it is a bit dark...

A small boozer that's just had its umpteenth facelift. Looks a bit like a nuclear bunker now though there are a few tables outside with get you a tan in the summer
