I LOVED The White Hart: tasty food (esp. curry nights!) the varieties of booze, helpful staff, friendly atmosphere, great accomodation, massive breakfasts (cooked to perfection every time) and really lovley hosts ( including Molly the dog ). Very fond memories of the place...I wish they had pubs like this back in OZ. Highly recommended...

Myself and my family went to the White Hart on the Curry specials night and it was fantastic! The staff were very attentive and the landlords were very polite and welcoming. I don't know about you but i always feel intimidated when walking into a village pub, however with this place I didn't feel like I had to be a local to feel comfortable. The food was fantastic and arrived quickly, I will definately be visiting again!

Myself and Family ate at this pub last Sunday it was absolutely packed, The Bar an waiting satff were brilliant kept us informed of when our food was coming out .
Only had a 20 minute wait which I thought was pretty good due to the amount of people that were in the pub, restaurant and Garden.
The Landlord was out in the bar taking food orders, bringing food out I found him very funny and polite.
Have already booked to go back next sunday. Great beer food and wine.

now i am a local girl and in the past have found this a pleasant pub. however today i went with my 2 year old and another couple with a 1 year old , and i am 8 1/2 months pregnant with diabeties.
we asked how long would food take and was told 20 minuites, asi urgently needed to eat. well it was after the sunday rush 2.10 when we entred, and didn't get our food till 3.05, we kept being told it wouldn't be long! then when it came the manager i presume asked what was the matter on saying about the long wait told us there was a macdonalds down the road if we wanted fast food. i found this very rude, and uncalled for, it runied the meal and being local i will never go back. also eating so late made me very ill due to my sugar levels, if we had, had honesty from the begining, i could have eaten something to keep my levels up
i do not recomend this pub if you have children or are pregnant and although the food ok, not the best in the area, and the managment very unhelpful and rude. ruined our day.shame on you i say

We had the best three days and nights we have ever had in any British pub for as long as I can remember. the food was excellent and was served by friendly and attentive staff. The real Ale was great and our hosts Charlie and Mel could not do enough for us. We stayed there on a B&B status and the accommodation was first rate. I am assuming that the comments by Bozall were written by a local rival publican and should be ignored totally. As for the bad language he or she uses it gives the game away a bit!

Lovely country pub. Food good, despite what they've said below (and I'm veggie!), beer good too. Nice pint of Harveys. Toilets immaculate, staff very friendly. Road didn't seem to be a problem, and a nice big friendly pub dog too. A fine choice if you're in the area!

went out of my way to visit for the curry nite and beer evening, turned up reasonably early. 5 curries on the list, i chose the only vegetarian one. "Sorry we don't have that on tonight". The other vegetarian in our group and i were horrified. The staff didn't seem that bothered or to understand how offensive that is to these compassionate and caring customers. A veg curry is simple to make, cheap, and completely cruelty free so why is it not available? I won't be recommending this bad pub to anyone soon. btw the other food didn't look that good either.

On a busy main road you cannot think straight out front(more like a transport cafe). Inside is a hovel. Bar staff are the most rudest horrible people I have met for a long long time. There is a massive sign out front saying "FOOD SERVED 3PM TILL 8PM SUNDAYS"(we saw the food it looked nasty) what a load of twoddle our party tried to order at 15:30 for a Sunday roast & was told by the uneducated blonde bimbo bar girl that they stopped taking orders at 15:00(what a shithole). Why the sign outside saying sundays food 3-8pm(pricks). what a dump on a main road....do not go here...get yourself to the cove hotel in Fairlight.... real food & not surrounded by bimbos & wan&&rs...

Best pub in this area by far.Always a warm welcome from the polite staff and owners. The beer is superp as is the food and service. At times the resturant can be busy, but good food is worth the wait.To many dust collectors for my licking but still a very clean pub. Will always visit when in the area.

We visited this pub by chance on 8.7.09.and were very pleased with the beer cofee and food. The homemade steak and kidney pie was the best I have had for a long long time.Staff were very friendly (as was the dog !).Well worth the drive from Basildon Essex, will do it again.

Nothing particularly wrong with the pub itself, quite a nice setting, decent old local charm but only average beer, very poor wine selection (using those dreadful little bottles you normally get on planes) and dreadful mass produced food. Couple this with one of the rudest landlords I've ever had the misfortune to encounter I certainly won't be bothering with this pub again. In these tough times when pubs are closing at an alarming rate I would urge you to give your valuable custom to a more deserving hostelry where the landlord appreciates your business and treats you with respect and common courtesy. Avoid.

A much more enjoyable pub than the nearby Kings Arms. Didn't eat here but the beer was good, plenty of whiskies available, and the dog was friendly.

This pub has a very mixed review i personally found it quite enjoyable and with a lovable landlord!
however when i was there a lady was smoking in the middle of the bar!! from the way no one was reacting i presummed she was the landlady?!?i was appalled and me and my husband left immediatly!
i will go back to this pub but not in the evening when the law breaking landlady is smoking!

this was a very lovely pub which i will be visiting every year with my friends.
the staff were welcoming the beer was lovely and the food was simply gorgeous.me and my husnband had the belly of pork with roated leeks !!i have travelled round battle and every single pub was absolutely rubbish !!the tables were sticky, beer warm and the manners were unacceptable.
the owners have done a very good job on refurbishing this pub which now looks magnificent!!
lovely dog as well !!

Beer warm and food cold, not good.

Average to poor sandwich for me, nice village position though, maybe all those blue rinse diners have lost their taste buds?

"Local Pub of the Year for 3 years running" and it beggars belief after visiting. Nothing really bad but nothing really special, average food, average beer, pretty location. I don't know why or how it has been awarded this accolade but I wouldn't bother visiting again.
