Had a lovely lunch here yesterday, they had a roaring open fire, the food was great and good value, they are dog friendly and have Henry the VIII themed carpet - what could be better !

This is a lovely pub and a fascinating building full of olde worlde charm. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and there is a lovely garden with huge duck pond. I would happily return.

Not too bad a pub for a tourist location - by Hever castle. Not too keen on the typical Shepherd Neame bitters but the Amber Ale was quite nice?

Visited this pub last weekend it seemed fairly quiet on a Sunday lunchtime.

3 real ale hand pumps all served Shepherd Neame - Spitfire, Master Brew and Amber Ale. The latter was 3.50 a pint.

The food menu was one of the longest I've ever seen in a pub and amongst the 30+ dishes were baguettes and jacket potatoes, standard main pub meals, burgers, about 8 different sorts of pizza plus roast dinners and other specials on a blackboard. Hunter's Chicken with chips and Roast Beef (9.95 each) were both large portions and very good value. Chocolate fudge cake (4.95) also recommended.

The staff were attentive and the food was delivered quickly, all in all a very pleasant lunchtime session. I'll be back!

Idyllic setting and good beer if you like Shepherd Neame which I do.
However the prices are unjustifiably high.
8 quid for 2 beers is not justifiable in this setting.

Visited on a lovely summers day when the pub was averagely filled and the tourists were out in full flock.
The beer garden was lovely and extensive, the '1698' bottled ale was a treat, and the service was friendly and curt enough, but my is it pricey. Ok we are talking somewhat of a tourist trap, but still even for a place you feel a slight cost increase it does still sting a tad..

The new tenants have moved in since my last missive below...what an improvement ! The place is now run by two young guys, one in the kitchen and one, David, out front...he is excellent. They have changed the lighting and have lit candles, so it now has a nice welcoming atmosphere and the food is well prepared and priced accordingly. Nice hand made Beef & Ale pies for 8.95 with all the trimmings.
Low point is the range of drinks offered by Shepherd Neame, with their usual dismal ales, no local ciders and a wine range that needs binning. The two guys will make it work, but Shep's need to support good young tenants like this with an expanded dynamic drinks range. Sheps' management take note !!
