restaurant masquerading as a pub. Mind you, both beer(decent range) and food were faultless

Poor pint of Hooky. Not quite vinegar but pretty close. Also on doom bar - why? Old speckled hen, butty batch far too cold for bitters.. Shame.

Excellent well kept real ale's. Food was a bit of joke though and poor value for money so won't be dining there again.

Relaxing. Good real ale. 4 in total. At time of visit; wye valley golden and bitty Bach, slaughter house saddleback bitter and otter amber (my choice). Busy yet quite. Has a superb menu and wine list as well as so bar food. Fish finger sandwich lovely.

Visited in Oct 09 on a Friday evening for a meal. The real ale was good and the staff friendly. Despite not booking managed to get a table for a meal and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Only downside (fairly major) was that the table was situated very near to the men's toilets which seemed to have been over-stocked with soap tablets - the result was an overpowering smell which detracted from the enjoyment.
Definitely recommended but only if you insist on not having a table in the small back room near the toilets.

Visited this pub toward the end of June. Couple of real ales. Was driving though so could only have half, which was delicious and well-kept. The pub was lovely and the food delicious. Highly recommended!

No sign of the fire when we visisted, although we didn't venture upstairs. I didn't even notice that there was an upstairs, so maybe it's been closed off.
A popular pub with three beers on tap, plus Scrumpy Jack & Strongbow cider. Quite extensive, although it's quite narrow in places which means there aren't loads of tables. We were lucky to get somewhere to sit.
Food is pretty good, and reasonably priced. Both our main courses were around 8 and we were very pleased with them.

visited this place twice over the weekend of 6th and 7th September, lovely pint of Landlord but ale not very varied, could've done with a higher gravity ale on! had the food in the restaurant up stairs which was good, pub stays open reasonably late too, not a bad place at all and worth a visit if you are staying near the castle, it is opposite some superb thatch cottages!

Well, Not a bad place really. If you are near the castle this is the place to go for a drink. The pub looks small but goes back a long way. Beers on offer were not imaginative Hooky bitter, Black Sheep and Landlord but the Hooky bitter I drank was good. The menu look very good but then this place is owned by the same people who own Harrington which is one of the best if not the best restaurant in Kenilworth.

Never had a bad meal here.

Not a bad pub for a quick drink before tackling the minor slope to all the good pubs. Nice food if that's what you want. Excellent pint of Scrumpy if you need an excuse to miss work the next day. Bar staff involved in their own micro-soap.

My mistake. My memory of this place is that it is more very food orientated (good food though) - always felt like you were in the way if you were just in for a pint.

Hmmm. used to be a greay place, but seems to have lost its way - can't decide if it wantds to be a pub or an eatery. Seems to be losing out on the pub side of things. Shame really, as I ysed to enjoy popping in for a beer, but also used to to feed guests. Now I tend not to bother

gjs34 - think you've got this place confused withthe Clarendon House Hotel, which is a hotel bar - this place is definitely just a pub. Harringtons next door, terrible pub the other side, castle across the road.
Scarey_biscuits - 2 Nov 2005 14:18
A hotel bar. Expensive, average (at best) beer on offer. Not terrible but not really worth a visit considering the quality pubs that are nearby.

Nice place and the food used to be fantastic. Just a bit small - seating can be an issie but the beer is well served.
