user reviews of the White Rose, Mumbles

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Cheap meals and plenty of large flat screen TV's - if you are looking for anything else then you would do best to avoid.

Yes, this place does not improve. Guess they don't think they need to, there always seem to be plenty of punters in there, Lord knows why. (The only thing I can say about it is that afaik this is the only pub open before midday in Mumbles).

Such a shame that The White Rose has deteriorated to such an extent that many locals and past regulars won`t go there anymore. Stinking toilets that don`t seem to get checked, dirty and grubby bar areas and a patio with overflowing ashtrays and tables that are never wiped clean and caked with bird droppings. Majority of the staff are surly and seem to think they are doing you a favour by serving you, they seem more interested in texting on their phones and huddling in a corner chatting to avoid the customers, never seen a pub run like it! Total lack of management, needs a total overhaul.

Where to start. Cider - Flat!! Beer - cloudy (but it's ok, it will clear in a few minutes. So said the bar girl... it didn't)

Was going to have food. Lucky went to the toilet before ordering..

Dirty!!

AVOID at all cost!!!

my husband and i went to the white rose a while ago and the food was awful. we had breakfast and it was very greasy and the service of the bar staff was rubbish.
we returned there a while later and the food was much better as they had employed a new chef, but the bar staff were not brilliant. service was rubbish. wont be going there again!

A dump.
Full of roiders on a Saturday afternoon, going into the toilet cubicles in pairs.
Awful back bar.
Front bar full of eaters, tables covered in salt.
Avoid.

The rudest staff I have ever experienced.

Went in and brought a round. No sooner had we sat down, the staff went round screaming "we're closed - everybody out - go home" very loudly at people like wailing banshees. We could see several people trying to reason with them - but they just carried on regardless.

Not a nice atmosphere to enjoy the 10 worth of drinks you just brought.

In 20 years of going to pubs, including this one hundreds of times, I've never been treated like this.

Have to agree with the 2 previous comments below, after calling in here this afternoon. Not sure whats happened to this place lately, but it certainly wasn't a patch on our previous visit. Seems to be chaotic all round, hard to even get served a drink in here today, well understaffed, and the staff on duty were rushed off their feet, mainly serving customers who had ordered food, therefore leaving the Bar unattended completely. Very poor management indeed !!!!......

Cheap beer and service to match....in other words impersonal and in fact the only indifferent welcome we received in our week there. Busy (because of the prices, I guess) but not exactly a choice bunch of guys (in some cases). For those of you who know Southampton.....this is the Standing Order of The Mumbles.

I hate being critical, but for all the attributes of this pub there was a lot that made me feel negative. Shame - from the outside it looks good.

A bit of a disappointment here after reading other reviews. The beer was ok though it took a while to order as the person behind the bar was busy chatting with locals. We thought we'd grab some lunch - 3 snack plates for 6.50. We were told there would be a 40 minute wait which was fine. The food arrived in 20 minutes - great. However, the food wasn't good. The fish goujons were batter and bone and the potato wedges were huge and undercooked. No one checked we were ok, though to be fair the staff were busy and there was no one behind the bar. We left a lot of food and I would have said something but didn't get the chance

A big pub, with very good value meals. Capuccino, full breakfast + toast for 3. ESB, Bass + Brains pumps (can't say whether all were actually on, on my visit). Place is nice and clean, service is fine - If you only ever visit one pub in Mumbles...

Called in here yesterday afternoon, after a Funeral up at Oystermouth Cemetary, so quite a lot of people in here. The service from the Bar was very prompt and the prices were unbelievably cheap. Special offer on was 2 meals for 5:00, so quite a few friends took advantage of that, and once again, the food arrived within reason, considering the amount of people in the place, they coped very well indeed. Certainly an improment since last time I was here, seems to have had a new lease of life all round in fact......

A Mitchells & Butler pub - M&B (the new name for the old Bass Charington company) seems to own a good few Swansea pubs, including the popular Eli Jenkins in town. This one has a similar feel - the original character of the pub has been diminished by a modern conversion that has introduced fake "olde worlde" fittings. The feel is a bit cheap and plastic and rather lacking in individuality. However, the place is tidy and well run. It has an attractive corner location, and is quite comfortable. The food is cheap. The beer is Brains and Bass.

We visited The White Rose back on July 29th, 2007. This indeed is the start of The Mumbles Mile and what a great place to get started! Their ales and bitters are top notch. They've got a menu with extensive choices and the prices are very good. Don't start The Mumbles Mile without visiting "The White Rose" first! - Dean

Used to be a very busy local Pub, but is now showing signs of wear and tear, still worth a visit on a Sunny Evening, but don't expect anything special here anymore......

A great pub and the traditional starting point for the infamous Mumbles Mile pub crawl. Well worth a visit...particularly on New Year's Eve.
