user reviews of the Pelton Arms, Greenwich

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

What a way to start your day off in Greenwich. A few good beers in a nice warm friendly pub such as this Good work guys a great pub. Truth be known could have stayed for hours. I think you would all enjoy this pub. There's nothing to dislike about this place at all

Love this pub, great on a Saturday afternoon even better on a Saturday night.
legionuk - 6 Dec 2015 09:57
My first ever visit to the Pelton after 2 pints in the Pilot and a brisk walk.

I walk through the door and approach the bar and instantly I feel a little uncomfortable. The inside bar is open plan and is pretty full with locals, there is a band starting up on the stage as I wait patiently to be served. After a short look of the eyes on the barman I manage to get myself a pint of Nelson Breweries Cat o'Nine Tails….as I have found with all of Nelson’s beers this one tastes a little odd but it does improve as I drink it.

There are 6 ales and 1 cider on the pumps so the ale choice is pretty alright.

From reading reviews I know that this is a locals community pub but it does feel slightly off putting for a stranger.

I take my pint and move to the good sized outside area which has lots of benches and is pretty much full. The atmosphere out here is nicer.

I decide to head off to another pub after just 1 pint, unsure if I came in on the wrong night or expected a friendly atmosphere but I didn’t feel that welcome.

I’m not sure I’ll return but that’s probably more my loss than the pubs as it seems to do well and has been around for years.

Such a great establishment.
Hands down one of the best pubs in London.
Brilliant live music. If you are lucky you may even spot the odd celeb on stage or in the audience.

Great Beer, Great Food, friendly polite staff.

If you have not yet been to the Pelton, do it.
KentishGuzzler - 4 Jun 2014 12:03
Large community pub on a Greenwich side street. Nine real ales I had a nice pint of Hackney G) and an extensive menu. Very friendly and helpful staff when we visited.

truly a backstreet gem a must to vist on any crawl or just a good drink a great range of ales not inexpensive but worth it .we never miss this pub .NOR SHOULD YOU
gpca - 16 May 2013 20:41
Nice "old style" type pub with a great atmosphere. Nine ales on pump, all the ones I tried were fine. Food good value and with "Pieminister" pies on offer I couldn't fault it. Well worth the short walk from Greenwich to avoid the touristy type places there.
alan_From_SAWW - 11 May 2013 21:55
Good pub if a little pricey.
They have bands on at the weekend. Mostly these are of the cover or tribute variety.
An older crowd get in here (so a sort of Venue for the over 35's without the closing time horse burger and illegal cab home).
Open till gone 1 usually. Best pub in the area..
bigaerials - 16 Feb 2013 17:18
Been meaning to visit here for years so finished a Greenwich crawl here so my friends could experience a back street pub. Everyone loved it, a good selection of proper ales. Was impressed that the chef came over to us to ask if we were intending to eat as the kitchen was about to close, not many pubs are this considerate. Bit of a pain to find but well worth the effort.
TiaMariaJim - 14 Nov 2012 10:00
Large foody pub with a long bar and a good selection of real ales. Beer I had was quite nice. Lots of character and a pub I'd recommend.
Abteilung - 11 Nov 2012 18:41
Fairly quiet here when we turned up late Saturday afternoon but a good basic pub with a lot of character in a sea of terraced housing. Good range of about 6 ales with 2 common ones. I had the Mordue All Hallows ale which tasted a bit odd but I think that was the choice of hops rather than any problem with the beer itself.
Booze_Allen - 11 Nov 2012 15:24
Popped in to the Pelton in the middle of a crawl last week.

Very impressed with he place. It had a great feel to it and a number of real ales on tap. Can't believe I've been past the end of the road so many times and never even knew it was there, let alone been in.

Definitely intend going back soon to spend a bit more time in there.
Keef_Peacock - 22 Sep 2012 20:06
Ive lived in the area for years and can not believe that it has taken me so long to find this place.

The real ale is well kept and on my few recent visits there have been 3 to 5 guest beers and a couple of more commonly found ales. There is also reasonable number of lagers and ciders.

Ive only ate in here once and the food was a decent sized portion and well priced.

It is well worth a visit and a far better option than the tourists pub in the town centre.

The pub also appears to be well embedded in the local community with quiz nights, live bands (the couple that we have been in the pub for have been of a high standard), a knitting club to mention a few.

davetheaddick - 16 Jul 2012 16:51
Three of us whilst doing the Thames Path walk came across this pub, we all consider ourselves real ale/pub aficionados and rate the gem of a pub very highly, good pub grub and excellently kept beers. Nice but small beer garden and a very traditional bar.
WiseWolf12 - 2 Jul 2012 17:38
This is just what I would call and ideal pub. Great traditional interior, garden, welcoming staff, live music, loads of activities (even a knitting club :-)), great atmosphere - and 10 (!) handpumps with real ale. They even have their own newsagent. A little for everybody, but it works. Shame it's not easy to get to, I would spent most of my time there
Albina - 26 Mar 2012 14:11
Love this pub. Great bar staff and locals, lots of entertainment, great range of Beers, spirits and Wine and a cool, quirky beer garden. Quality establishment.

Popsuruncle - 25 Nov 2011 18:16
After being well entertained by Geoff and a number of the regulars in The Pelton on Saturday night I promised I'd write a review.

Primarily I found this a very friendly place and because they were running a wine and cheese night the atmosphere felt more like a party that a pub and very welcoming to an outsider like me.

There must have been 8 pumps on of which the St Austell Trelawney and Red Squirrel Red Tail were very good.

The cheese and wine night was being run by the pub's wine supplier and a local cheese expert for 15 a head. In fact there was so much left, we were invited to join in from our Cribbage table in the corner once the paying guests had scoffed their fill.

Good pub, good beer, good people.

SuperNev - 21 Nov 2011 12:07
Good pub. Ales are well cared for. Bar staff hit and miss with knowledge of ales on sale. very nice eclectic mix of decor in pub. I was advised of the ale festival this weekend after visiting greenwich on business from the local paper which showed the wrong date and wrong number of ales. after a disapointing first visit (no festival and two usual suspects on the pumps). I talked my wife into a london sightseeing weekend based in north greenwich. We were pleased to be able to back it for the pubs ale festival! The team effort, teeshirts and atmospheren were great.Ales were suberb (but very limited and not wide choice but well cared sadly let down by the harrased students serving. Ale menu was not updated as to what was "finished" etc so it was a little bit like guess work. laminated cards were a good idea but "sold out" needed to regulary updated and thats where the many chalk boards would have come in handy. My wife is not a beer lover but was sold on a half of butcombe which was very nice but nothing unexpected in the wide range of ales that a london pub could have put on for their festival. Although a nice touch was to see distance traveled from brewary to pub on the menu but again pointless if you just got advised it was off.

Today we checked out of our hotel in greenwich before driving back. We popped in to see a bit of the band (music every sunday). Very good rock although not too busy (maybe the rain). For a pub that charges top price for their ales. Im unsure why they felt the need to charge a "supplement" of 40p on every pint while their band was on?! Disappointing!

We would invite the landlord to our local the adam and eve for some suggestions on food menu although we did find the food of a high standard at the pelton.

good luck
realalerealale2011 - 11 Sep 2011 21:20
The Pelton is having a beer festival 9-11th September. I believe some 15-20 different beers over the three days. Live music also. This may make watching the early morning rugby games in the World Cup challenging next weekend.
Oliver_Snell - 3 Sep 2011 14:08
Bohemian, laid back pub with eclectic furnishings and decent range of beers. Don't let the Greene King A-board put you off!
curioushistory - 4 May 2011 00:26
Good range of ale, sign outside the pub says 'Best Bloody Mary in Greenwich'. Having just tried this concoction last Sunday, I wholeheartedly agree. The BM which I was served was spicy, peppery and utterly divine! The young barmaid serving was upbeat, talkative, enthusiastic and intelligent.

Eclectic mix of people inside. Friendly locals, the odd eccentric as well as the odd tourist! Last Sunday, a horde of French tourists were given a talk within the pub about Greenwich as well as the tradition of Pearly Kings and Queens; how very bizarre!

I understand the pub has musical evenings. I plan to be be checking out these live acts out shortly-cannot wait!
markwilliamson - 11 Apr 2011 14:31
This is officially my favourite pub in Greenwich. They serve good ale -- have recently drunk Sambrook's, Yellowhammer, Twickenham Grandstand bitter and The Ginger Bear (not all on one evening sadly (it was a whole day) -- and the pub is big enough for darts contests, locals chatting, geezer in the corner drinkin a glass of wine, and even a knitting circle the other night. Dark and clean inside, so cool on summer and cosy in winter. Service is excellent: barwoman giggled obligingly when my mate asked for two Naked Ladies. Winner. Don't drink anywhere else now.
Alexharri - 28 Mar 2011 22:51
Nice enough decor, beer fine, pleasant environment and friendly staff. Not my favourite pub of the day, but certainly OK and no doubt much better than many in the area. Whilst I am not particularly bothered to see a cat casually strolling up and down the bar top, I can understand why others may not be so keen from a hygiene point of view. Otherwise, nothing negative to report.
Stamfordian - 14 Feb 2011 10:44
The current Good Beer Guide indicates that this pub opens at 10am. On the Tuesday between Christmas and New Year, I should have guessed that this would be too good to be true! The pub finally opened at 12. Only 3 bog standard real ales were on - Wells Bombardier, Greene King IPA & Shepherd Neame Master Brew. 2 others advertised on a blackboard - Adnams Spiced and Exmoor Gold had not been replaced. Stowford Press is the cider. The pub itself is a large corner establishment with an L-shaped bar. A dartboard is in one corner, with bar billiards in another corner. The owners child was wandering around the pub, whilst a cat was sat on a stool at the bar, until the child decided she wanted to sit there. A second cat was also milling around. I like cats. But I'm not sure they should be so prominent in a pub that is clearly food oriented. The pub was a bit quiet on my lunchtime visit and probably gets a good atmosphere when busier. But I failed to warm to it too much.
blue_scrumpy - 30 Dec 2010 19:47
Only been there once and live 40 miles away, I've just given a honest review (thought that was what the site was for.)
flashharry1965 - 14 Sep 2010 13:18
Unfortunately the 94 pubs I've reviewed undermines your point SOUTHLONDONLION and have you actually read NorTom's (not Norton) critical review?
This not a great pub but well worth visiting if you are in the area.
flashharry1965 - 14 Sep 2010 11:35
A proper regular local's pub situated just one road back, but a world away from the tourist pubs on the Thameside Path. There is a traditional feel to the pub with a variety of seating, wooden floorboards and gold framed pictures of English sporting and show business legends, the royal family and Winston Churchill dotted around the walls.

There is a small stage in one corner of the bar, a large drop down screen showing the horse racing on Saturday afternoon and a piano, the first I've seen in a pub for ages.

In addition to the usual keg range there were five hand pumps: one not being used, with Bombadier (in good nick) GK IPA, Caledonian Nectar (a bit sweet for me) and Adnams Explorer which the barmaid said had only just been put on and wasn't quite ready - a nice change to a lot of pubs where the staff don't seem to care what they are pouring in your glass!

A pub worth seeking out off the beaten track and I can see myself returning.
flashharry1965 - 27 Jul 2010 09:32
This is a pub that never dissappoints. The staff are completely charming and the cats add a real sense of comfort and familiarity.the staff do a great job making you feel welcome and you can tell that they keep the place sparkling. I love coming here to kill time and for band nights when the atmosphere I great and the new menu is another reason to drop by. Plus, geoff is a legend!
Elisabeth - 21 Jul 2010 00:11
It was my birthday today and my husband took me to the Pelton Arms after our meal to see the band there tonight.
I was a bit apprehensive at first but what a delight!
I've lived in Greenwich for a while and not come across this pub before. You won't find it if you're just wandering around as it's not on the main drag.
The band were fantastic (The Bash Street Band) and the atmosphere was first class.
As a bitter drinker I really appreciated the beers on offer - 5 real ales - and the quality was first class.
It was an excellent end to my birthday evening and I've insisted we go back there soon.
If you've not been, give it a try - you won't be disappointed.
dobson - 18 Jul 2010 01:49
This is one of the best pubs in the area and as its website (peltonarmspub.com) says, the best kept secret in Greenwich.
I guess that's because of its location on the back streets rather than in the more popular town area itself.
I don't know what NorTom's comments are all about - it's neither kitsch nor gaudy and it doesn't aim at anyone in particular except maybe those who like good beer, good food and great music. It's no more expensive than any of the others around and compared to the likes of the Trafalgar Tavern and Frank the Yank's other pubs, it's downright cheap! It can get crowded when some of the bands are there but that's because they're good!
psturley - 17 Jul 2010 18:43
Kitsch verging on gaudy aiming at trendy singles. Dearist pub on the manner, very hot & crowded when live music is on, could be cleaner
NorTom - 13 Jul 2010 12:35
Made my first visit for some time a week or so back and was very impressed with the improvements. A good range of ales were available, including 3 interesting guests. Good, wholesome hearty pub food too. Not local enough for me to be a regular but somewhere I'd happily return to.
JonW999 - 14 Jun 2010 11:04
Finally ate here last night with 10 others. Sirloin steak and chips was superb and less than 10. Also tried the Bacon and Pease pudding - also very nice. Sizeable portions - couldn't even contemplate a pud (may have been full of beer though). Everyone in my group said their food was good. 5 different guest ales as barrels were changed during my visit. Saltaire Brewery Stein Gold stood out. Excellent stuff. Next task is a sunday roast.
anonymous - 3 Dec 2009 23:13
The pub has been selected for the prequel of the 'Only Fools and Horses' due to be broadcast over Christmas. Telling the story of Del Boy and Rodney's early years. Pelton Arms becomes The Nags Head.
ericstadd - 25 Sep 2009 09:32
Typical. Only just discovered this pub just as I leave the area. You'd search high and low to find a pub as good as this one. The ales are amongst the finest kept I've ever encountered within the M25, fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff etc etc.
An outstanding boozer and well done to all those involved. 10/10.

reviewguru666 - 18 Sep 2009 10:31
Have only known this gem of a pub since Geoff took over. He's really made it a comfortable place to be. Sofa's, log fire, standard lamps, piano etc: But don't think it's for just the ol' folks, the clientele can be as young as the barmaids(!) or as old as Uncle Albert, and just about all inbetween. No trouble, just good times. Regular guest beers, proper pub menu at competitive prices, alongside all the expected usual tipples. There is a small stage in one corner of the pub which every weekend is occupied by either a class band or decent DJ, all for zilch! This is one pub worth travelling to. Known as Greenwichs' best kept secret. Not for much longer!!
earljhickey - 17 Sep 2009 20:45
Going from strength to strength. Ale is consistently good and there are now 3 guests and 2 regulars. Some real gems as well. So glad it is my local.
anonymous - 3 Sep 2009 20:02
How amazing, this pub has new owner and what a breath of fresh air. The pub garden is great on a hot evening or if you don't want to listen to one of the many live bands that play here at the weekend. I was amazed at the varied age groups old and young, on a sunday early evening there is a jazz/blues band and the landlord brings out one of the biggest cheese boards i have ever seen for all to help themselves, this goes down well with a great red wine of which the pick is plenty. We popped in midweek and had a meal on the sausage and pie night i must say i could'nt drink a thing after eating but the food was one of the best i've had in a while in greenwich. Great british pub food !!! will be going again very soon.
newlywed - 2 Sep 2009 22:25
What a difference since my previous visit to the Pelton two years ago. Five ales on tap, including three guests(?) from the York, Mordue and JW Lees breweries, a bar billiards table - and many more customers on a Saturday afternoon.

A good model to follow seemingly for those backstreet pubs feeling the effects of the current economic climate. Recommended.
Dartitis - 1 Sep 2009 16:48
I'm really appreciating this pub since Geoff Kene took over. Had some great real ales there at good prices. The evening of 15 August sees Tootinskamoon playing all the classic 2-tone sounds. We're looking forward to that - the dawning of the new era might be 30 years ago but its still fresh to me! In answer to the Beat's rhetorical question -yer,we are ready to go!
Trinker - 25 Jul 2009 16:32
Guest ales in here are excellent. Currently on Woodforde's Norfolk Wherry which is delicious. Last three have been Titanic Lifeboat, Thwaites Bomber and Springhead Spring Chicken and all have been well kept. Beer garden is also taking shape. An excellent start or finish to a pub crawl into Greenwich.
anonymous - 1 Jun 2009 21:02
Pub now awarded the Cask Marque
ericstadd - 16 May 2009 19:07
I came to this pub after a glowing recommendation from the Cutty Sark tavern, it is so nice to see local pubs supporting each other, and I was pleased with it. The ale was ok, a little bitty but a sound effort for such a small local pub. The pub itself reminded me of a old fashioned smoking lounge and this will be one of my pubs of choice in the winter months.
publover25 - 24 Apr 2009 13:14
Was really impressed by this pub. I am not local but found staff and locals to be really friendly. A great atmosphere, obviously well run, good service. Had a really good night and would recommend a visit.
Deb01 - 20 Apr 2009 12:57
Since the new ownership there's a definate improvement. I think after years of neglect the place just needed a good shake-up. Friendly and welcoming with lot's going on such as band and themed evenings. The food is good, the music is pleasant and just a few minutes walk from the Thames Path. Would recommend.
DCGH - 14 Apr 2009 17:49
Obviously improvements under the new management, better beer, better food and a better atmosphere. Good to hear of the intentions to introduce more guest beers. Still take a lot to move me off of the Bombardier, a great pint. Infinitely better than the over rated over priced utty Sark.
ericstadd - 13 Mar 2009 21:42
What a great pub! Greeted by a smiling barman. Fine and well-kept ales. There was no food on the day I went so can't rate that. Wonderfully relaxed feel to the place. Less crowded and much cheaper than the nearby Cutty Sark. Deserves to be supported by the local community and visitors alike.
pomona - 9 Mar 2009 11:36
we went here after it was recommeded by the bar man at the cutty sark taven and were really disappointed. It was so dead, the ale was just terrible, cloudy and obviously badly kept. The staff were not friendly really, especially considering that we were one of the only customers and sat down at the end of the bar the whole time we were there and didnt make conversation. Not a good pub.
aussiefi - 16 Feb 2009 12:20
A real undiscovered gem of a pub. A proper back street boozer - ended a little Greenwich pub crawl in here a few weeks back. And after the disappointment of the Cutty Sark Tavern, this was a welcome respite.

We rolled up about 2100Hrs and it was pretty quiet in here, but there was a very relaxed vibe in the place, some good music being played so it felt the right place to draw the night to a close. There was a small open fire at one end of the pub and we sat about that drinking on very well kept lager. We all agreed that this was a place we would come back to for a longer session in the future.
PigPen_in_the_Fens - 15 Feb 2009 13:29
I went to the Pelton Arms last night and thoroughly enjoyed myself. A good range of reasonally priced beers, very comfortable environment and an open fire - perfect for a cold night. There was also a pool table, dart board and quiz machine, but the pub is a good size so it didn't feel crowded.
Certain to return soon.
abolisher - 31 Jan 2009 18:30
This pub is once again under new management as of about 3 months ago. The new chap Geoff has done a very good job in my opinion. There are now 4 ales on tap (up from 2) and all are well kept - have not had a bad pint in here since he started. Deuchars IPA and Black Sheep are consistently very good. Can't comment on food as it is only just being instituted and have not eaten here yet. Newly installed log fire also nice on winter days and the pork scratching variety is more than acceptable. Other bonus is that it is considerably cheaper than the Cutty Sark and other pubs along the river - 2.70 pint is pretty rare in London these days. The range of drinks has improved all round, especially the wine and the staff are friendly. This is the sort of pub that local people should try and support. Keep up the good work!
anonymous - 10 Jan 2009 09:14
It makes a nice change to have a locals pub in the area very friendly staff on my visit at the weekend there was live music that was a bonus even the drinks were cheaper than the tourist pubs nearby
210849 - 17 Sep 2008 15:39
Visited here on a Saturday Afternoon. Nice pub with friendly staff & locals. My girlfriend & I liked the end of the pub, where it looks like somebodys lounge. The place seemed clean and tidy.
Kerrminator - 12 May 2008 13:09
Have moved to area and was pleasently suprised to find a nice friendly local pub to enjoy a good pint of beer and food on a lunch time, quiz night on a tuesday is good to have a laugh with friends... sign on the pub says under new management, manager of pub is a very friendly fellow indeed, aways have chat and laugh with the customers and seams to remember his customers names and makes you feel very welcome.... friday and saturday nights are now a very busy so i have been told by a few of the locals in the pub who make you feel at home... i rate this pub very highly indeed as i feel it is the best pub in the area..
calin - 13 Jan 2008 20:17
The pub appears to be under new management it is now has a warm friendly atmostphere my last visit was a year ago between then and now its completely changed for the better.
210849 - 13 Jan 2008 14:54
Popped in for the first time in about 15 years because The Cutty Sark is closed till mid Jan. Even with the Sark being closed it was still nearly empty, except for a man and a woman arguing over who was more local. Because neither had seen each other in the place before. Both spouting names of places theyd lived and schools they went to. Most amusing

The Pub itself has been done up recently and is much bigger than you expect. Beer was ok, although left after a pint for above reasons and the fact that the juke box was incredibly loud.

mrse1 - 8 Jan 2008 11:09
Large, quiet, pleasant. It feels like it ought to be somewhere else, such as next door to a railway station in a small northern city. No customers obviously under the age of about 65 apart from one friendly young drunk and a small group of women who wandered in, chatted to the barmaid for a few minutes and wandered out again. Racing on the TV.

Something of a fifties feel to the interior. Not at all a plastic-and-chrome rock-and-roll 1950s but a suburban wood-paneled dark-grained pipe-smoking sort of 1950s. Model ships. Horse-racing memorabilia. Lots of dark wood around. It looks lit the sort of pub people who have hobbies go to.

Both two times I've been there they had a vase of fresh flowers on the bar. Lilies once. A really nice touch. If I was lookign for a place for a drink and a chat in East Greenwich this is the pub I'd choose I think. Just a pity there were no customers. Apart from the view its a nicer pub than the Cutty Sark a hundred yards away, and the beers a lot cheaper! Maybe I went on a bad day.
bob_brown - 3 Dec 2007 21:08
Rather quiet back street boozer, notice on the door now says closed 3-5 Mon-Thurs. Large L shaped room, clean and comfortable. Unfortunately the only cask ale on yesterday evening was GK IPA. There are 3 handpumps though. Lots of old photos including one of the pub with a tiled exterior under the sign for Lion Brewery Ales. The street and pub seem to be named after Pelton Mine/Pit, think its in Durham?
I do like this place and feel it could thrive if a good selection of cask ale was offered.

Maldenman - 25 Oct 2007 08:44
It's good to see that backstreet locals such as the Pelton keep going. As per a previous comment though, it's difficult to see how, as during two Saturday afternoon visits over the past year there were hardly any customers in what is quite a large establishment, unless the evening trade is completely the opposite. Reasonable pint of Bombardier, and hope to return.
Dartitis - 16 Jul 2007 14:15
Lovely pub close to the river, drinks not pricey and friendly bar staff. One of our favourite locals because it's not too noisy, service is quick and it's not full of local riff-raff.
anonymous - 25 Mar 2007 20:49
Still a good pub but no more music Why?????
Used to come down to hear the two piece bands who were great and created a brill vibe. Went on Sat night and although the guv and his family are nice enough the atmosphere is not the same. SHAME
georgebantom - 2 Feb 2007 23:00
A lovely pub off the beaten track, but still just round the corner from the Cutty Sark (an overpriced poorly run shame of a pub). It is massive inside and well decorated. Very quiet on most days, but doesn't deserve to be. Does a great pint of IPA at a reasonable price. Hopefully with a lot of redevelopment planned in the area this place will finally get the custom it deserves.
davefrom78 - 15 Nov 2006 14:39
used to be a great pub when the irish bloke had it
new owners a world apart
milkthistle - 22 Aug 2006 14:37
Large, pleasant pub off the tourist trail. Lacking in atmosphere and custom and I wonder how they keep going with their current level of business.
JonW999 - 14 Feb 2006 14:07
A local thats been made up to look like a brewery reps version of a pseudo period pub. Comfortable enough; Sky TV. Limited number of beers. Foods okish, albeit not cheap - but what is nowadays? Popular lunchtime venue for local staffers. Out of the way and quiet enough for a business meet or elicit rendezvous.
Roballe - 13 Feb 2006 16:41
Clean and attractive slightly upmarket local. There was a vase of fresh lillies on the bar when I visited. The landlord is friendly and intelligent. Bombardier and IPA are the regulars. Large open plan bar with bare floors; one end is made more cosy with some leather sofas.
I had a Bombardier which was served traditionally warm. It was pleasant enough, but had maybe hung around a day too long. 2.46 a pint.
SilkTork - 19 Jul 2005 19:19
8/10: This is my local and I'm happy about that - it's probably the best pub of the 10 nearest to me. Quite a roomy pub with nice decor. The couple that run it obviously know how to run a pub and look after customers. Bar staff are always friendly, decent beer, food is very good and won't break the bank. Excellent for Sunday lunch.

They have special nights every so often, usually on a Saturday, and I think they still have a regular quiz on Tuesday nights.

Large portions of food as previously mentioned, but the prices ranged from 6.50-7.50 for a meal, which is not that cheap. Only Bombardier and IPA ales on tap.

A very friendly pub slightly off of the tourist track at Greenwich (and all the better for that). Provides the best food out of all the pubs in the area in large portions at a very reasonable price. 5 stars in my book.

Nice boozer with friendly staff and locals. Off the beaten track enough to avoid the students and tourists who infest many Greenwich bars.

I went to this pub on Sunday and had a most excellent lunch. I started with broccoli and stilton soup which was delicious and then had the roast beef and yorkshire pudding which was to die for! I understand there is a new chef at this pub and it really is evident by the fantastic food. This is definitely restaurant eating at pub prices! The pub itself is comfortable and clean with a good atmosphere.

I visited this pub on a Saturday evening. There was live music, friendly atmosphere and the food was as good as you would get in an upmarket local restaurant but you would pay twice the price. Would definitely recommend.

Nice pub, really good food at decent prizes (the Cutty Sark Tavern 5 minutes away wants 6 for a burger and chips!) Gets a bit busy soemtimes but a nice place for a few quiet beers or even a bit of a session!
