THIS IS NO LONGER THE GREEN. IS now under new management and called The Queensbury.

Used to go to this pub awhile back but better value at No.8 with a couple pool tables and cheap booze and a rockin fri and sat night crowd, I couldn't ask for anything more!

This pub relaunched last week as "The Queensbury" at Willesden Green...

Not sure what was wrong with the old name, but it's still headed in the wrong direction. The bar menu is bland but still way too expensive for this kind of pub, and they've taken Fosters off the bar whihc is sure to piss a lot of the local Aussies off (myself included!)

On the upside they now have large awnings outside so you'll never get wet, and the inside doesn't look bad either.

Overall though, this pub looks lost. There's no need for a Gastropub at Willesden Green (especially with Shish just across the road and Kilburn one stop away on the tube), surely this place would do a lot better if they did away with the overpriced menu and restaurant altoghether and served simple pub food, maybe put a jukebox and a few pool tables in, and actually catered for what the local population wants...

The pub has really improved since last time i had visted. friends had recommend the food and im glad they did !
I had sunday lunch and the food was outstanding! i would go so far to say it was the best pub meal i have had and is easily on par with the narrow gordon ramesays restaurant only the green is 5 minutes from my house !
it was so fantastic that we went back on monday crab tempura was delicious
well worth every penny i have been recommending it to everyone.

Sadly, the pub has been faffing around with the menu over the last few months and it now makes a liar out of my earlier review. The menu has gone all fancy and overpriced, making this a much less attractive place to come. Shame.

Went with a group of mates - food appalling and over priced never had lemon sole as sushi but got it in The Green!! My advice - give it a BIG miss and try Little Star down side of tube station instead - may not be as fancy but much better value for your wallet.

Not a great weekday pub, but a great place to go at weekends. The beer selection is pretty poor: no ales at all. However, the food is absolutely fantastic. Every dish I have had there has been top notch and the omelettes are the best I have ever tasted. A nice place to spend a Saturday or Sunday lunchtime.

Pub has really improved since their refit, better decor and a far more comfortable experience. Shame however that they have no direct competition as this would raise their game further. Why is Willesden Green such a desert when it comes to decent pubs? Maybe all like minded people who want a decent boozer in the area should club together and buy the Spotted Dog before it gets turned into flats or demolished.

Not bad for drinks (as its pretty much the only pub in Willesden Green) but terrible for food. Everything is overpriced and not enough of it. To top it they will probably burn your food and offer no alternative. My advice is hop on a bus to Kilburn. Much better pubs there.

Given that this might indeed be the only decent boozer in Willesden, us willesden-ites are at its mercy to some extent... where else to go? And believe me, I'd like an alternative - the Green does take the mickey with their prices, as the review below points out. The food, however, is usually above average - go for the wedges at 2.50 (i think) - a good filler with a few lagers, if you're strapped for cash. A meal in the restaurant is going to be more like 10-15 - gastropub prices I guess. Have eaten there many times and have had only one (very) disappointing meal - forgivable, I think.

Restaurant apparently okay, but bar itself below par. Staff very poor. And drinks expensive: suspect coke 1.60 for half-pint, weak lime and soda also 1.60 for a half-pint. That is ridiculous but apparently the lime is expensive. Will never go back.

this and The Crown are the only decent pubs in Willesden

This is pretty much my local, and the pub i visit most regularly in the area. However, as some people have already pointed out, it does lack character. But the biggest problem this place seems to have is with staff. The staff are almost always friendly and helpful, but they're also almost always new!!! Having had three friends work there over the past couple of year, I've learnt from them that the problem is actually the management. It's poor, and unfriendly, and so alot of staff up and leave in a fairly short time. One of my mates worked there for almost in 2006 7 months and was the second longest serving member of bar staff, losing out only to the Chinese guy who was there for 2 years (whose name i cant remember but was really great, until he stole a load of wine and got sacked).
Generally, the Green is a good place to pop in for a quick drink, and the food is definitely good, but it's not a place where you can expect to get to know the staff, or expect any kind of discernible character.

By the standards of the area it's an oasis. Anywhere else in London and it'd be considered awful - big, characterless barn of a place.

Not too bad in the scheme of things. Suffers from that idiotic fashion in certain pubs to fill it with mismatched and unstable furniture. Can sometimes feel a bit like a windtunnel and on winter evenings avoid tables near the door as freezing. Gents could do with a makeover, looking very shabby these days. Shame that the restaurant isn't busier as the food is quite nice. Far better than most pubs in Willesden but that isn't a very difficult achievement.

This place would fold faster than Superman on Laundry Day if there were but one iota of competition in the area. Its mediocre to the max,..but unfortuately, if you are in the company of any (shithole phobic) ladies, then you are fcked in Willesden and are forced in here,..dispicable.

Still a good pub where you can go for a drink and a chat. Shame that it doesn't have a later license. The food is amazing, although sadly the restaurant seems empty these days...

Attracted by the beer garden, went there on Sunday for some food and a pint only to be served by an ignorant/incompetent waitress and only to find out that the kitchen had just closed between 5 and 6.30pm. Noticed also that they kept farqing up the food orders of the other customers. Had a pint and promptly left......

I really like this place. Nice bar, amazing food in the restaurant and great sitting out front in the summer. I like th jazz on a Sunday too. Very chilled. A teeny bit pricey for Willesden though!

Great food, unless you're a vegetarian, at which point you'll be offered an egg sandwich.
The_COat - 8 Mar 2005 13:49
I live very close to the Green and when I visit (on average about once a week) I have a 50/50 chance of a nice time.

When it's good the beer is nice (and very cold), the food is wonderful and the beer garden is lovely to sit out in.

When it's bad it's mainly due to the attitude of the bar manager and/or the bouncers. These people often can have their heads up their bottoms and hence can be very rude to polite chaps such as myself. I think their problem is they think The Green is something it's not (i.e. located in the middle of uber posh Chelsea where being stuck up is more acceptable I guess).

The thing The Green needs is more competition, they would then start lose trade and perhaps be more polite to their paying customers.

The Green is a stylish welcome to Willsden. The food is amazing, in the back is beautiful fine dining, and I reccomend the best burgers in London served in the bar up front.
minty - 13 Jul 2004 14:32
Rude bouncer expensive drinks a good location to have a bad time
Raff - 7 Mar 2004 11:37
Absolutely fantastic restaurant at the back. Not tried the pub but looks good. The food in the restaurant is out of this world. Mouthwatering.....
Denise - 2 Feb 2004 11:02
Expensive.

Off-hand staff.

I'd stick with Shish over the road!
Tim - 1 Jan 2004 17:54
Damn expensive, full of odd bods who drink their drinks with cocked little fingers, and talk with psuedo posh accents.
Mike - 23 Aug 2003 10:32
Having recently opened, I am, together with my flatmates, experiencing the Green's first summer. It has an outdoor area at the front of the bar with the assembled throng making it visible as soon as you walk out of the tube. It also makes for a highly entertaining evening watching bad drivers knock cyclists over. Failing that, you can drift off into a hazy blissful dreamworld as eastern European strumpets in next to nothing tops breeze past (and ultimately ignore you)
Ruby - 11 Jul 2003 16:50
Great atmosphere and location - just opposite the tube. Really good and very friendly staff.
Delicious bar food and restaurant at the back where the food's even better.
Generally a really nice place to go with mates for a few chilled drinks after work or on the weekend.
