Although I've not been here for a while, I hope that Josh Eggleton who runs it makes a better job of it than he did at the Eat Drink Bristol Fashion pop-up restaurants that have been in Queen's Square for the last couple of weeks, and of which he is a director and the Pony & Trap were doing much of the food, including, I believe, the tapas menu.

We turned up at about 6:00pm on Saturday evening. The place was busy, but not packed, and most punters appeared to be drinking rather than eating. After perusing the tapas menu that was on a board above one of the bars, we queued up for some time only to be told when we got to the front that we couldn't order at the bar, we had to order at the next one, where there wasn't a menu.

We must have then queued for about twenty minutes at that bar, due to only two people serving and trying to serve drinks as well as take food orders. When we were one place away from being served, a message was apparently passed out from the chef that they weren't taking any more food orders. That would be bad enough anyway, but to refuse to take orders from people who've already been queueing for twenty minutes is completely unacceptable. Myself and another customer asked to see a manager, but after waiting a further five minutes for him to appear we gave up and went elsewhere.

Could be a good concept, but as it was a complete waste of time.

This pub has just secured a Michelin star, It is not prohibitively expensive and has been advertising fish & chip lunches at 9-95 !

Very attractive place to sit out at the back in the summer. Worth a visit.

Is there anywhere nicer to enjoy lunch on a fine autumn day than the conservatory of this pub? Good quality food well cooked and well presented and a view over unspoilt countryside in a welcoming atmosphere. The only downside would be the beer selection Butcombe and Doom Bar both far too comonplace for their own good and Bath Ales Barnstormer which was not altogether to my taste.

Didn't live up to all the hype, and expectations were not met. Very plain, uninteresting starter. Ordered two sirloin steaks at an expensive 16.50 each, which were not cooked as requested, and was very very fatty, much more so than a normal steak should be. Service was ok. All in all wouldnt bother going back to.

We had lunch here to celebrate our daughter's birthday. The food was excellent, really outstanding, and we were astonished at how reasonable the prices are. For four of us - two courses, a bottle of very nice shiraz, four pints, a glass of pinot grigio and a bottle of sparkling water, the bill was 95. Astonishing.

Pretty busy today which was nice to see, opted 4 a pint of Courage Best which wasn't bad but bit too cold ,only had bcombe as another choice. Quick service from the barmaid. Bit more of a restaurant than a pub but still well worth a visit, 7/10

Turned up here on spec Saturday lunchtime. Beer fine (though not a great selection), food excellent. Lots of fresh fish, generous portions, bistro style but not bistro style prices. And still a proper country pub. Young staff, very friendly. Will definitely return.

Ate there Friday evening, the main courses were v'good but once again let down by the curse of eating out today. Is it me or does anyone else miss the humble chip,if i want "fries" i'll go to a burger bar!!
The sweets were a big dissapointment, very Brake Brothers.
The Butcombe was awfull so i risked a pint of Courage Best(crap at the best of times)within 20 seconds of being poured it looked like sherry,no head and no life in it at all.Keeping ale is not rocket science yet so few pubs seem to have a clue how to do it.
Well worth a visit if you dont mind "fries" and drink lager.
