Fantastic place ! Popped in on Saturday as had heard great things on the grapevine. Finally there is a place for women to drink and feel comfortable in Kentish Town. Incredibly glamorous décor, very friendly staff, sumptuous surroundings – all at proper prices. Think Lounge Lovers crossed with the Palais de Versailles crossed with The Dorchester !

Considering what it was before this is a great improvement, not only for the pub scene in Kentish Town, but that exterior colour had to go! The decor does take your breath away at first but with the right mood lighting you begin to soak up the atmosphere and apart from no French accents, you could think you were in some quant bar in good old Paris. I am really looking forward to checking out the downstairs bar as i didn't get to see it last time so i will write more next time, and get some photos up to replace the old one currently showing. Safe drinking!

I really don't know what all the negative average reviews are all about !

I went to Annie's on Friday night & I must say I was highly impressed by the decor plus the function room too. The designers / landlady not only deserves credit but admiration for making Annie's such an inviting female friendly & unique drinking spot.

I do believe this will be in the in place & you might have to prebook to make it through the doors in the near future........watch this space.

Go check it out for yourself !

I was there for the opening, and i have to say this is going to be one of those pubs you will go back to, not only because of the friendly staff, but because the atmosphere was so friendly, and the ambience makes it a very relaxed place to be.

Good Luck Annies, i'll be passing on the word to all of my friends.

i was in Kentish town last friday night and ended up at a new pub called annies, it was newly decorated and when we went in we were shocked to see such a stunning bar in old kentish town, its a welcome relief to the usual surrounding. As we enter we noticed the amount of effort that was put into this establishment. The atmosphere was friendly and fun especially with the live music! Its a refreshing change from the usual old pubs that are around kentish town. I dont think the bar is aimed at the top end of the market but for people who actually like to dress up and spend the evening at a classy yet relaxed place. Id have to say try annies for yourself and see what you think.

I agree with 'Thorton40' ref the "bouncers" none when I popped in... BUT
As I walked in I was confronted by the White Grand Piano and Black & Gold wallpaper (didn't check if it was flock though) an enormous chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The bar top wouldn't have looked out of place in a good kitchen.
As 'Phucough' says this place seems out of place for Kentish Town.
Hal90.00 - 3 Jul 2008 01:08
In response to Phucough's comments I would like to add that there were only bouncers on the door for the first couple of days who turned away one group of people as they were wearing shorts. It's certainly not the case that only suits and dinner attire are required! I was there on both Thursday and Friday evening and think that the new refursbishment is amazing! The pub is now a lot more female friendly...which can only be a good thing. The owner has done a great job in transforming Annie's into a sophisticated and interesting place to go for a drink...well done! What a welcome addition to Kentish Town!

Complete change - no longer a locals' pub; now as described below, is an exclusive bar/club for a market targeted at the affluent customer. A dress code has been introduced as of last week, and bouncers at the door have been instructed to politely turn away casually dressed drinkers, that is anyone not wearing suits or dinner attire. While there is nothing wrong with what they have done here, with respect it should be in the West End.

This development causes me dismay as it is another loss of amenity for local ordinary bread-and-butter working class Kentish Town drinkers who were promised a "new pub" when it closed only to not be allowed in now. Coupled with the proposed closure of the Bull & Gate up the road at the top of Kentish Town, this is not good news.

The only glimmer of hope is that the economic situation combined with the need for immediate revenue will force a change of heart and they will open Annies up to the general public once more.

Basic observations on visiting:

Live Music (a white grand piano is situated on the ground floor)

Food (will be served soon)

Cocktails, wine and champagne are to be main features. There is no real ale (apparently there never has beeen, under previous ownership)

On a positive note the outward appearance of the pub from the street has improved hugely on the unsightly egg-yolk yellow-and-red previous colourscheme. It is now painted cream, which is pleasant on the eye, and two large ornamental potted shrubs are placed at the front door.

All I can say in conclusion is visit and see for yourself.

Reopened yesterday as a plush, Louis XVI styled luxury bar. Lavish champagne opening ceremony staged. This bar is now aimed at the top-end of the market, and a large amount has been spent in upgrading the premises.

News Bulletin:

Pub is being worked on at increased speed just now, and looks to open up in the summer - according to estimates from onsite builders.

I`m going back a few years now but this place was a great little dinking den Guinness was as good as any you`d find in Dublin, friendly bar staff chilled out locals.Hope they can get this back (some how don`t think it will if its owned by one of those dammed pub co`s hope i`m wrong).
Beersupper - 29 Mar 2008 17:36
due 2 open soon cant wait, such a great pub and the staff and drink are fab
connolly66 - 21 Mar 2008 15:54
The pub remains gutted. My original forecast, obtained from builders working onsite, was way offscale, and now extends through January.
lad_newton - 10 Dec 2007 18:41
unfriendly staff - unfriendly management - I went in there one night with my friend and her 60 year old irish mammy - Her mum after paying good money to have a couple started to sing a few sweet irish songs - th locals seemed to love it - then I looked over to the table where the management were sitting and noticed the women who runs the place give my friends mum what can only be described as a filthy look - It was so unnecessary - WHAT AN OBNOXIOUS WOMAN - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY - GO ELSEWHERE.

This pub is currently closed for refurbishment. It should reopen in a month or so.

One of several Irish based pubs and bars in the area, in fact you will do well to find a pub around here that doesn’t have any Irish influence. Beyond the bright yellow exterior lies a rather basic and grubby single extended room pub that at the moment partly resembles Uncle Pat’s Building Site rather than Auntie Annies Porter House. The fact that there is a Plasma screen firmly attached to a temporary boarding suggests it may be some time before this pub shows any signs of being anything other than the tatty old boozer it currently is. In fairness, the pub is welcoming enough and the barmaid when I visited was top notch however, as with many of the Irish pubs and bars around here, there is little in the way of beer selection other than the standard mass market keg beers and, naturally, Guinness. The interior so far untouched by the decorators is rather dull with plain walls and ceilings, a well worn wooden floor, the ubiquitous Guinness mirror and a collection bottles over the bar that appear to have a decade of dust attached to them. They were playing an eclectic mix of music on my visit that ranged from Shaking Stevens through Motown, Spitting Image, Grease and Zorbas Dance so it did at least provide a bit of quirky entertainment. There are far better pubs in the area for the discerning beer drinker but in its own way AA’s has a certain charm and warmth. Maybe when Auntie Annie has got rid of her decorators, a further visit will be in order. Until then, not really much reason to go out of the way for.

Auntie Annies is definetly the best pub in Kentish Town. Its very well run, the beer & service is excellent. Its a great sports pub as well!

Relaxing in the evenings unless there's football. Great atmosphere when thats on though because Management stand no nonsense so everyone has great time. Friendly and efficient barstaff. Locals a nice crowd.
charles Bell - 22 Jun 2004 19:37
probably the best boozer in kentish town, good guiness and nice selection of whiskeys, blinding atmosphere on st pats day the other week, also good for watching footy and having a quiet pint with the boys
Barry - 31 Mar 2004 11:48
Anutie Annies is one of the most popular pubs in North London for watching football. It's a family run pub & has been now for 12 years.
Donna McFadden - 21 Mar 2004 11:43
Good place to watch sports. Better on the inside than the outside. No proper beer. Better than average, but not by much.
James - 27 Feb 2004 09:56
By far the best pub in Kentish Town. Always someone interesting to talk at the bar and great on match days. Very friendly staff and Donna who runs it is lovely.
Ron - 24 Feb 2004 14:22
This is a perfect lazy Sunday pub. I often used to lose a whole day, happily sitting drinking excellent quality Guinness and reading the papers. They also have a huge selection of top quality Irish whiskeys. Good service all round also, even if it's jam-packed for the footy! I genuinely reccommend this place.
Brendan - 15 Feb 2004 14:41
Good pub to go to for traditional Irish entertainment and quite good on cartering for personal parties....but where's Charles??
anonymous - 8 Dec 2003 10:29
Great pub. Can't really explain why, which bugs me.
You'll have to pop along and check it out your self.

Camden_Dave - 20 Nov 2003 14:52
Good for the footie. Good for the Guiness. What more could you ask?

Although short of honeys and a tiny bit pricey
John - 17 Sep 2003 16:03
good for football and for a recovering from the night before. our new home since O'reillys became awful. Nice landlady too. though far too many arsenal fans, but we can live with that
BIll P - 15 Sep 2003 14:23
A quiet Irish bar with a friendly staff, flower baskets outside and a traditional wooden interior. It is usually a good place for a chill out and a chat. However it transforms into one of the best football pubs in London whenever there is a match on.
