Pub has probably had a refurb since the last post, still heavily into food. I had a pint of Banks's Sunbeam which was pretty good. Fairly quiet on a Saturday lunchtime.

Don't agree with the negative comments here.Yes the drinks are expensive but the real ales are a good standard and the night I was there it was a friendly place with nice people - which is rare in other pubs in the town. The carvery seems well attended but the pub definately needs to have a re-vamp on it's decor. The restaurant is like being in your own front room!
Some of the staff seem to have 'half empty glass syndrome' and they could do with a standard uniform.Otherwise this place is probably the best in New Milton if you want a traditional pub in a safe and friendly atmosphere.

What can I say about this place that is good, well it has more than one exit which is good when they tell you the price of beer and food. Technically it is legal rape the prices they charge and for what if it was a titty bar you would understand, but it is not the only tits are the pair running it into the ground. Seems to have a hetrophobic atmosphere which is odd in this gay and age. Save your money and head for the toby cavery in Christchurch much cheaper and friendlier. The only way I would go back to that place is if I was staving to death and even then I would check to bin outside first. Other than that i cant see alot else wrong with it maybe I can only see that good in thing

God awful Pub I cant imagine a worse place to go for a drink, I cant believe I was paying more for a pint than in some decent modern clean pubs I visit, Got absolutely nothing going for it, I asked how they can justify the beer prices and was almost barred for nothing more than a reasonable question, The land lords are mini Hitlers the bar staff look as happy as a bulldog chewing a wasp, the smoking area was nothing more than terrible the chairs and tables all wonky I would not visit this place again if Elvis Presley himself re emerged from his grave and asked me to join him for a drink!!!!!!!

A good solid proper pub. Still manages to retain a nice distinct public bar style area although it is an open plan pub. The lunch was pretty reasonable on a Sunday lunchtime. Beer is a tad expensive but maybe offset by wine cheaper than usual?

Still has great stained glass windows and some interesting original tiling outside. Generally an older crowd but some younger customers as well.

Couldn't agree more with the previous comment after my visits last week. Yes, drinks are a little on the steep side but do have a couple of decent ales, the food is very good value (check out the 16oz steak at less than a tenner) and they have live music on Friday nights. It's also one of hose rare pubs these days that has a good mix of clientele. Overall - very good.

The drinks are expensive but what you get in return is a genuine original pub with a friendly clientele and friendly staff. The carvery is real good value and ales are well kept. The pub is more geared for the older generation which I found a 'rare find' in this town.Don't knock it....few pubs locally remain like this

Visited over Easter 2010, friendly and helpful bar staff.
Thursday evening acoustic get together was laid back and entertaining.

Food ok but you need to remortgage your house to buy a drink.

I can't see me drinking in here too much in the future, (Bring back the "Good ol' 80's) as the Stella is WAY too expensive... (3.70 a pint?)..

Sandbanks pubs are cheaper than that.....

'Nuff said!..

Has slowly turned into a nice and friendly place to have a drink.Gone are the local troublemakers and it seems to be the place for the middle aged and retired to drink at ease.Went on the quiz night and found the atmosphere pleasant and bar busy.Only downside is the drinks are a bit pricey and the management have seemed to change the carvery deals too often. Also from the outside the restaurant looks like a goldfish bowl - especially when empty.Otherwise a good place to have a drink.....

Very reasonable prices for food, lovely carvery, nice decor, great music on a Friday evening - this is our favourite haunt!

Lovely pub after its refurbishment, a nice place to go. Carvery is always delicious with good tasty meat. The place is normally very busy and the staff are a delight. Always willing to chat to you and have a laugh. Wasnt the nicest of pubs before the refurbishment but it has changed now and is a really great place to go.

the wheatsheaf is a lovely clean friendly antisocial free local pub, the person who wishes to remain anonymous is obviously one of the old local that used the pub day and night and is upset that the new owners have spoiled his routine, the guys have made a excellent job of the refurb and its nice to have another pub to go to in millie as there aint many!!! the rydal has only gone down hill since the owners of the wheatsheaf have sold the buisness, so a quiet afternoon meal or a place to meet people in the evening the wheatsheaf has it all.

This pub has been recently refurbished to a very high standard and the gardens beautifully landscaped. It has been done with taste and thought for customers of all ages. The carvery is excellent serving hot tasty food at very very reasonable price. It also has an excellent varied menu for those that prefer something else. The entertainment is chosen to suit all age groups and there are facilities for the disabled. It is a pleasure to spend an afternoon or evening in this friendly clean pub.

Due for a major refurbishment in late Jan 08....

This pub used to be the last deccent pub in town, until being recently taken over by a new couple tom and jon, they had ruined another tavern the rydal arms just up the road and now they have set out to destroy this one with rubbish food and stale ale, over priced and poor quality must be dreadful for new miltonians as the best place now to drink in town is the con club, their previous establishment was blighted by under age drinkers and loud after hours sessions going on to the wee small hours, drug taking, rock bands till all hours and the local constabulary turning a blind eye, strange as it is rumoured tom is an ex cop. Avoid at all costs.

Under new ownership - what a difference! Good beer and a good varied menu - have tried their steaks and currys - very good -

Old fashioned and a bit rough and ready, located on a fairly busy residential road away from the town centre, but all the locals (and their dogs!) were friendly enough towards three strangers passing through. Ringwood Best & 49er on handpump.
