Over the road from the Boltmakers and worth seeking out. 2 beers from Yates plus guests.

This pub is a great survivor where nearly all around has been demolished. It's a small place with some great beers on and the ones we had were top notch condition. Totally the opposite to a gastro/bistro/chain type place. Excellent.

Best pub in Keighley friendly and knowledgeable barman and great choice of beers. Visited on quiet midweek evening so don't know how rowdy it gets when bands are on.

And another good night tonight. Great band - although they never said their name.

Why - oh why - don't other pubs get it? Look after your beer, employ (and, hopefully, pay well) alert and friendly bar staff, provide good, free entertainment and reap the rewards.

Shame I'm on SV116 tomorrow...

Work overseas and stay in Manchester over the summer. In two months, haven't managed to find a pub with good beer OR decent music. First night in Keighley and back to the Cricks. With the Midnight Special band playing. AND Yates' on tap.

Memo to self, 'Don't waste money and time in the big city'.

Best pub in Keighley with some great ales from all over the country. Clientele are a real mixture which makes for a good atmosphere. You can escape downstairs if the bands are too loud or stay and watch. Unlike most other pubs in Keighley it's not just Taylors and one guest beer so it's worth a visit if you fancy something a bit different.

Great selection and quality of beer, plus the best selection of crisps I have ever seen. Only gripe is that one of the drinkers feels that this is a place where it is OK to make ignorant racist comments.

Fantastic little pub. Great atmosphere, very friendly regulars and wonderful real ale. Think as it only really one big room it must have been an ale house originally.

worth tracking down this great 1 room backstreet gem .on my visit there were 2 moorhouses one called taster, it was7abv .and only served in a3quart glass.very sensible.it tasted like a watered down barley wine much better was the rudgates . nice friendly staff. i also think it is a music venue. one downside on leaving there was a group of people supping a bottle of white lighting wrapped in a morrisons bag .....tut get yourselves in and try some real ale

Couldn't fault the beer but wasn't happy with the kindergarden on a Friday afternoon!!

Visited this pub while attending the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway Beer Festival, and found this pub had it's own beer festival on. Severalof the 20 beers were tried and well kept they were. Friendly bar staff, the cellarman in particular.
Interesting seating outside.

Good contrast to the Boltmakers; a mixed crowd and a very interesting beer menu. Close in feel to Sheffields Valley of Beer (or that great music pub near Aberdeen docks). Moorhouses was average I thought, but less than 2 and the pub is a must.

Have to agree with Greywolf. This pub is underrated, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the location, which is a bit semi-industrial. Some of the best beer in the area is to be found here - and that's saying something. I'd say the ales are almost up there with the Brown Cow and the Boltmakers. I like it more with every visit.

Sorry John, I disagree. You have to visit this little gem of a place. As boozers go it's distinctly old-fashioned - almost spit and sawdust. But the beer is ALWAYS excellent in presentation and taste, the staff know their ales and are most friendly, and I've heard that the mid-week music scene is very good too. Add to this their "Upstairs/Downstairs" beer festival (always brilliant) and you've a pub in a million.

AND NO FOOD!!! GREEEAT!!!

Friendly small single bar pub serving a number of guest beers, mainly from micros. Note the brewery memorabilia on display - an Adnams mirror and one from the late Trough Brewery in Bradford. The pub regularly offers live music. There is a recently opened downstairs bar.

Try and spot the cricketing memorabilia - which, given the pub name, is disappointingly limited.

In conclusion, this is not a must visit pub, but worth popping in if passing, especially if you're looking to try a beer you haven't sampled before.

Busy little pub. Visited on a Thursday evening, as often with this pub meant that there was a band on, making the venue intimate. Good selection of beers, had the Mooorhouses Pride of Pendle. An even smaller cellar open downstairs with a courtyard, half covered! Younger crowd downstairs.

First came across this pub in April 2007 ,and my girlfriend, a local, decribed it as "rough"...they were advertising an evening of finger-picking blues, so we came to have a look.

What we found was a basic, but great little pub, serving very good beers, and some lethal cider..with friendly barmen, and a great crowd, well into their music...hmmm, interesting how wrong you can be!

Ok it's not built for comfort in the upstairs (street level) bar, but then we'd come for the music, so I really couldn't care about that.

Came back again in June for an evening of more "mainstream" blues, and again, had a good evening, with some good music...

Both these evenings were Tuesdays, and ok, its never going to be the busiest night of the week, but where I'm from in Essex, you just don't get live music in local pubs during the week, so it was a real pity to see it wasn't better supported - the crowd(!) was no more than 30 people on either night...

You've got a great little pub here - come and enjoy it!!

Going down tonight - thursday 14th June - to see what's on...both bars open tonight, so hoping for a better supported night, but looking forward to enjoyable music yet again....

Now has a downstairs bar! Also a beer garden, with a shelter that turned out to be illegal to smoke in after they built it. I am waiting to see how many councils are taken to court for not putting up No smoking signs in bus shelters which have been made 'buildings' by by this botched and cretinous legislation.

Small side-street pub, with friendly and characterful clientele. There was an old dear sat on a high stool listening to her MP3 player with her eyes tightly shut. Superb pint of Moorehouse Premier Bitter, a beer rarely seen this side of the Pennines. Had a refit about 10 years ago, which I hated at first but has aged nicely. At least they've got rid of those gimmicky 'railway carriage' cubicles (complete with luggage nets). Nice pub, all in all.

Have visited this pub regularly over the past couple of months.
Beer usually in tip-tip condition and a friendly atmosphere. Special mention must be made of the introduction of live music several nights each week which has contributed to a growing clientele. Have seen better bands and musicians here for nothing than I've often paid to see.

Friendly family run pub with a landlord who really cares about and knows about his beers. The addition of live music on some nights is an additional bonus. If my wife and I travel over from Bingley for it to be our local it must be good

Essentially a nice pub with a good range of ales, but we found ourselves at a table in the middle of the room with competing noise from rock music at one end and a too-loud television commentary from the Winter Olympics at the other, which only one bloke seemed to be paying any attention to - either cut the music or have the tv on mute, preferably the latter for me, but don't have both. I was so irritated by that I can't remember what my only pint in here was. I'll consider another visit if I'm in Keigh;ey again, but the competition from other pubs is very stiff.
Rich66 - 21 Feb 2006 22:42
Great little boozer with a good selection of real ales
