6 December cold in the room and draught from old style single glazed window, asked to move told no other table available but several tables stayed empty all night. Not asked how we would like Gourmet? burgers cooked, one came very rare mine was done to death and tough as an old boots, I believe it had been reheated, my wife's sea bass was rather small but nice, the few vegetables were hidden under it, not good value. Staff treated us with polite indifference. We did not stay for puddings. Made motorway services look good in comparison. Never again.

We recently met some friends here for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised by bright and modern feel of the place. The food and service were both as good as expected, given that the place has a definite restaurant bias. What was a surprise was that the Harveys was really well kept. I would definitely go again.

Next time I'm going to try the Hot Rocks. The whole experiance was one to remember. Thank you to the staff for making it such an enjoyable night!

this used to be a decent boozer where you could talk to everyone, get a good game of pool and have a bite to eat. what happened it looks like a happyeater crossed with a harvester what a shame and a waste of a bowling lane.

Cheese fondue?, Chocolate fondue? Shall we head off to France? No, let's jet off to a small village in West Sussex called Findon. Yes, somewhere tucked away in the U.k. is a wonderful place called The Black Horse. Owned by two young professionals, Neil and Louise, with phenomenal palates. I was soo blown away by their menu, that l have reevaluated my opinion on U.K's restaurants.

If you are anything like me, you love to travel to far away places, meet great people, see beautiful things and award yourself with a great local meal....

So... if you happen to be in the Sussex area admiring the neighboring castles and rolling country side, reward yourself by stopping by the Black Horse.

Start off by ordering an extra cold pint, followed by a platter of cheese fondue. For your entree, I strongly recommend the hot stone option, you literally can cook your steak to what ever temperature you desire, on a sizzling hot stone! For desert, you don't need to feel too guilty about all the cheese infused bread you had. Order the chocolate fondue, which is accompanied by a fruit platter.. with no shortage of bananas, strawberries, kiwis, pineapples, totally delicious and guilt free.
Consider this a hidden jewel! Enjoy! :)

What a change! Someone has really thought about all this.Design cool contemporary, unobtrusively tastelful. Stone floors, paintings leather sofas. Very different to the standard british village pub. Food novel, in that the responsibility for cooking it is yours. I enjoyed it as the ingredients (i.e.steak) are good quality. The food was consumed after a skittles match which was enjoyable too.

What a change in a pub !! This is more like a restaurant now. Clean and tidy...A pleasant attitude behind the bar, although a bit pricey for beers. The food was very good, you cook it your self on a heated marble plate ! Starters & deserts excelent. The young waiting staff are very polite and attentive. (Take plenty of Dosh when you visit.) Overall a good night out.

My wife and I celebrated 50 years of domestic strife on 7.9.07, and had a family get-together at the Black Horse on the following day - Saturday.

Prompted by family members who've been there before, we hired the skittle ally - a good move.

The food (sandwiches et al) was top-notch, and the two lassies who looked after us (one on only her second day in the job) looked after us with quiet and unobtrusive courtesy. I don't think we ran out of coffee once!

Yes, the beer was a bit expensive, and I doubt we'll be around in 2017 - if we are, we'd go there again.

We called in for a light pate and salad lunch today (16-7-07) not bad but a bit dry and it lacked something in flavour. That said, this pub has changed considerably and is more of a roadside eatery now and one look at the menu.......make sure you're sitting down when you receive the bill !! 6/10

25th July 2006

I stayed in Findon village for around six weeks and found it charming in many ways, often frequenting the Gun or the Black Horse on most evenings. However, because of a change in circumstances I needed to relocate to my present dwellings in East Preston.

About a week ago my son and I decided to take advantage of the excellent weather and plan a short hike from Highdown in Angmering, through Clapham Woods and finish off at our proposed destination, The Black Horse in Findon.

I hadn't been to the pub for months and I was in for quite a surprise! The familiar black faade had now turned white. The sign, which used to depict, you guessed it, a black horse, had gone what a mountain
range is supposed to do with a pub that was famous for it's horse-jockey clients is I've no idea!?

Then as weary travellers have done since time immemorial, I purchased a couple of pints of beer. The 6.20 price tag was enough to make me wish I'd never set foot in the place again. If that's the price of their beer, I'd need to take out a mortgage should I ever wish to dine there!

I did a little further investigation and found that the skittle alley was still intact, furthermore that this establishment could no longer be regarded as a proper 'pub' but more of a restaurant.

All in all I won't be going there again and should I ever wish to repeat that hike I will terminate somewhere else instead.
