user reviews of the Brunswick, Hove

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

As far as the pub goes, there's nothing outstanding about the place, bar the large beer garden in the summer, with its large olive tree. The smell coming from the toilets has tended to overpower a bit too much.

Its prime justification for existing must however be the music venue attached, which puts on a wide range of acts, but I'd rarely go in for just a drink.

Expensive drinks prices, unimaginative basic food menu, characterless unwelcoming interior. Harvey's only. Huge smoking garden.

My wife and i visited the Brunswick and were pleasantly suprised, we had heard that it used to be a football pub so were pleased when we arrived to modern interior plus a warm welcome and relaxed atmosphere. The food was very nice, it was tasty and quick to arrive (everything you want from pub grub) We are looking forward to watching one or two of the bands they are advertising.

This pub is getting better - they're clearly making an effort. The decor used to be a bit stark but it's been improved and has more character giving it a generally more welcoming feel. It's still a contemporary style, so if you're looking for an old school traditional local, it's not for you.

They do a lot of entertainment - mostly pretty high quality. There's a good sized room with a stage featuring a wide variety of musicians - both local and touring bands. There seems to be something on most nights.

I tried the Sunday roast and have to agree with richards_bird - it was peculiarly tasteless and only included one roast potato. There were other things in there that seemed to be just for show, including something orange with so little flavour it simply couldn't be identified. I've eaten other things there occasionally and it's been OK.

Overall, I think it's a decent place - if they sort out the grub it'll be in good shape.

Tried Sunday lunch here...possibly the worst meal I've ever had. Very nice wine though.

Eaten here a few times during the day. Big, comtemporary pub with decked garden area adjacent to the road - no doubt used to be the carpark. Pleasant enough atmosphere - sometimes takes a while to get served as lots of people ordering the food which is pretty good if not spectacular. Has music about three times a week by the look of it. Worth a look.

A big pub - the refurb now includes a stage for live acts and has a large garden patio area out the back.

Was a tad cold though even with the roaring large fire!!!

Food took a while to be served when it wasn't busy during the week, however, the staff were very smiley and polite so that compensated and the Ploughmans was good!

This place has changed,. No not just the management this time..but the inside and out of the pub...looks like a classy joint now...almost been completely refurbed, looks 100 times better. A good selection of drinks at reasonable prices. Bar staff helpful and happy.

Complete change of tack - no longer the big soulless sports bar and making a valliant effort to attract a different clientele...

Worth a look...

A "Sky Sports" kind of pub. Spacious, lots of lager, big television. OK if you like that sort of thing.
