Fair enough, I retract the "grumpy". in it's place I'll add bubbling over with bitterness, horribly discriminatory and prejudice with a tendancy to generalise and uses any platform to spread bad feeling and resentment. Shall we get back to reviewing pubs?

Robamy Why get personal with me and say I am grumpy? Believe me I am not, I tell the truth the way and many other people see these long haired pot smoking smelly lazy good for nothing parasites on society parading in Brunswick Street West during their so called hard earned break from making a noise in the building next to the pub. No ! In my opinion and I stress MANY other peoples views there is no room for these ring infested individuals in this pub, let alone in the real world. Let them get a real job and then they will earn their credibility

How much of a grumpy old man are you chaschas? Anyway, great pub with friendly people both young and older, good selection of beers and a great atmosphere. Perfect for the student and old and bitter alike.

This pub is as good as it gets, it is virtually free of lazy students chatting about changing the world and also having such a hard day that they might have had doing virtually nothing (Poor souls.. I don't think). The pub is very clean and the beer is top class and the staff are very friendly indeed. It is a pub that has a 50/50 mix of gays & straights and all get pretty well along together ok. There is a good mix of music in the background of oldies and middle of the road stuff. Fortunately none of the bang bang insignificant rubbish that is played on radio one or local stations is ever played. It has been taken over recently by a very pleasant married couple and the opening hours are the same as most pubs now.
I would not hesitate to bring my wife into this pub, it is full of civility and good character without a doubt... My advice.. Give it a try. Chas

quite the most bizarre, character-full pub in hove. much better than barney's or the freemason or whatever saturday night horrorshow you care to mention in that area.
one question though, why the weird opening hours? We went in on a sunda y evening at about six, and they were 'closing up'? It was like 1946 or something. oh well, adds a frisson of excitement to your visit.
"Will i get served or won't i?"

Right I can't believe what has just happenned so my first instinct was to hop of home on my moped and post this here, well firstly I asked what ales were on and was informed that they don't do ales but they do extras out the back, I asked the young lady whos name was Chantelle what she meant but she refused to elaborate, I settled for a pint of Hoffmeister and a bag of nobby nuts, who knows what she means but I saw an older gentleman come out shortly after with chantelle and he looked rather pleased with himself.

Found this place by accident as a place to have a drink before dinner with my wife (8 months pregnant) and had no worries in there. Its an absolute gem, clean and tidy, staff were pleasant, beer was good and i would recommend it highly.

This is my favourite pub. A proper pub with proper pub prices; very friendly and full of great characters. Happy hour is fantastic...just wish it had longer opening hours!

Imagine your gay uncle bought his tiny council house, spent a fortune on paint affects and stick-on-Victorian mouldings. Then he closed the all the doors and chain smoked Rothmans for 5 years. That's what this place is like inside, faux marble paint affects and brass guns on the wall. It's great though. Warm and friendly and the Badger Bitter has been fresh every time I've been in. If you can't face the crush of the Freemasons, nip down the side road and pop in here.
