In side street near Tesco, quiet and mostly locals, but well kept beers-Bass/Tiger/Sussex on tap when I went. Film night Mondays/good food and pleasant staff. One of the best in Hove and worth a visit

Often overlook this pub tucked away in the back streets. Food very good, generally a guest ale on but could always do with more. Staff work very hard to keep you happy.

great pub - great garden too out back (small one out front as well). very honest and there's one particular barman who is ultra attentive to customer's needs. never gets too busy, had a lovely pint of old peculiar there, and it is MILES better than the forager, next street along.

A lovely little pub, very friendly complete with a very charming and helpful manager who really seemed to want us to enjoy ourselves. I went there as part of a group complete with baby, (no baby changing facility but hey ho, guess it is a pub after all!! )We all had dinner which was gorgeous, generous portions, hot & tasty and we stayed for the open mic which is like no other mic I've ever been to in my many years of frequent attendance at many pubs in town. Hilarious!! great characters, everybody really friendly and ran by Tom who plays along on his guitar whilst people sing, my husband took the baby home & i stayed and was persuaded to get up & sing a tune, such a lovely evening, my friends & i agreed we will all go back very soon. Highly recommended.

The Bell is one of those places you're not sure you want to tell all your friends about because you want to keep it to yourself. If everyone knows about it then what will happen to those lovely, cozy and peaceful Saturday afternoons where we read the papers, get fed real food, simply cooked by a really good chef and treated well by the Landlord and his friendly staff?
If you like great food, real ale & good wine, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere in a proper un-fussy Brighton pub, then you could do worse than try this place...... Damn, I told you now!

Having lived opposite this pub for years until recently I can say that its been well turned around in the last few years. Not my favourite and the barflys are a bit off putting at times but well run and friendly management.

This little gem of a pub is a petunia in an onion patch.........having visited on several ocaisions in varying sizes of parties and always left overly satisfied I am happy to report a resounding success in the re-visiting stakes. This Sunday we descended on The Bell as a Party of 14 including small child and baby - we spent many hours and 3 courses of delicious food in a most convivial atmosphere and as a whole could not find fault. Much alcohol was consumed the sun shone down, we drifted in and out of the beer garden, the food was as ever reliably delicious the menu innovative, beautifully presented and the cost you may ask? ? Ridiculously Cheap. I thank the day my Son decided to make this Pub his local. I cant recommend this friendly convivial find more highly.

Not great. Harvey's and fortyniner on tap. The locals propping up the bar are a dodgy looking bunch of characters.. Small yard area out the back for smoking. If the Forager round the corner is too 'gastro' for your tastes this place will certainly serve as an antidote, but I can't help thinking they may be a taking this role a bit too far.

The two reviews below must be made up by idiots!

This is a lovely little pub, great beer, great food and friendly staff. It has a really relaxed atmosphere, a good selection of board games and Nintendo Wii nights on a Monday are a good laugh!

Highly recommend this as a place to go, top marks!

Agree with Nignog Death trap of a pub shall not be visiting again.
I think Nignog forgot to add about the food, i ordered Scampi in a basket and the Scampi was so under cooked im sure i saw the Scampi wink at me!!!
Beer tasted like it had just been scooped out of the sea and the barman looked liked Barry Chuckle and had as much brains as him as well!
Avoid!!!!!!!!

this pub is a death trap I was walking past with my lover roland on the eve of christmas eve, when a petrol bomb came flying over and bounced off the window, I will most certainly not be visiting again. Also I had a pint of old scrote and I had a dicky tummy the day after. I think its discraceful.

Well what can I say. This little pub has the biggest of characters.
Very welcoming staff, and customers of all ages. Excellent bright new courtyard outside for those who like the sun when it comes out. The food is always fab with a varied menu and great Sunday roasts. Having frequented this pub a few times now I can recommend the quiz on a Wednesday and live music every other Friday.
The Bell is too good to be missed. Add it to your regular haunts or you'll be missing out. Its just off George Street!!

Found the Pub when it was changing hands, what a top place, it's good for a chill night with the boys or a night out with the G/F. Food is fantastic fat chips and a fantastic sunday roast.. It's now on my Crawl.

Oh my God!!

Rough as nails, but the most sureal nights out to be had here. Full of characters (or drunks you might call them), I have had some very funny nights/day long benders in this place! To most it will be a hell hole, to some a throw-back to when it was all about getting pissed!!

Porn from the vending machine in the gents, what more need I say!!
