Beer range a bit bland if you ask me. Mind you, if it was packed & a band was on - I would think differently!

Rockers pub not too far from Bolton station, but far enough in the snow. It's a Marstons pub which had only one other customer when we visited yesterday lunchtime. Beers on were Wychwood Hobgoblin, Marstons Old Empire & Jennings Cockle Warmer. Cider was Thatchers Heritage. I see the similarity with the Witchwood in Ashton, having visited there recently. For me, the Witchwood was better.

I like this pub its a bit like the Witchwood in Ashton under lyne but a bit more rough and ready. Its a bit tucked away so id have it as a starting point. Best way to get there is turn left out of the train station then left at the next set off lights and its on your left hand side. Beer kept on form and the lad behind the bar was very friendly.

I agree with its aesthetic look it is a tired pub and in need of some new paint on the walls etc but apart from that I cant fault the ale and i think it has natural charm and character, I used to drink just bottles when I came here but now the real ale is some of the best around with loads of guest ales that you dont usually get at other pubs. If your into your live music ( rock, metal ) then its the place to go. On another note the punters in there are some of the most genuine people ive met and you always hear some great and funny stories

Called in here for the first time despite living in Bolton for over 7 years. A good choice of cask ales, the Cumberland was well kept. However the put itself is far from endearing, with peeling wallpaper and a general decrepit look. The toilet has broken tiles, graffiti and no soap, dryer or handtowel. Due to this, although the beer was good I can't recommend the pub sadly.

The real ale in here has come on in leaps and bounds recently. I had the aptly named 'Dogs Bollox' the other week and was amazed at how good it was! A few years ago we had to put up with the bog standard and disgusting 'Burtonwood' but now the revolving guest ale and new handpumps have been an excellent inclusion. Cheers

Same here realalerules1983! Toilets are iffy yes. Usually got a few tissues to hand and that anti-bacterial hand cleaner as they never have soap or towels!

By the time I get here I'm usually shitfaced. When I've been in wetherspoons, Barristers and then man and scythe on the thatchers this is my last port of call. Normally end up on the green goblin cider. Good jukebox regular live metal bands playing. Only downside is that it can stink of raw sewage!

great rock pub. amazing jukebox. pool table. went in on a dinner time so the atmosphere was nothing like it would be on a night but how i wish this place was in leeds. very friendly bar staff. a point off for no guinness or carling cold.

nice friendly bar staff, excellent metal bands on, and a nice guest ale on. 10/10

The Alma looks like crap from the outside, but boasts a great atmosphere on the inside, albeit somewhat cramped. Strictly a rock pub, but welcoming to all ages.
