I dunno, PissFlap makes me laugh. I like her gritty obsession with all things toilet-related and I especially chuckled when she gave one pub 1/10 with the words, "the garden centre next door is very good". Not a criterion for marking pubs I've ever thought of using but I applaud her attempt to say something nice about the place in the most trying of circumstances.

Ha ha ha ha ha, PissFlap, great review. But wasn't that the plot of a Marx brothers film?

Well, where do you start? We went in on Friday night at about 9pm. The bar area was packed with mainly men. The people are a cross between 'Minder' and 'Only fools & horses'. There are undoubtedly some proper villians but mainly cardboard gangsters and young wannabees. The place is ridiculously expensive, but then it would be because it's really a restaurant. If you're a smoker it's a great place to have a drink thanks to the excellent garden area with sliding roof panels and nice seating and patio heaters. All in all, very much take it or leave it.

La Rascasse is very definitely a FRENCH restaurant with a segregated bar area, where I have been a number of times just for a drink.

Can be great for a drink on a weeknight, although I have come across a few of the more agressive types mentioned below. Nice garden area ar the back and excellent wine list but very much a bar as opposed to a pub.

As with the rest of Beckenham, I would avoid like the plague on a Friday and Saturday night as its mainly occupied by the aforementioned "coke head tossers with jingle jangle jewelery and cheap tarts on the arm"

Shame about the clientele which is often S.E. London spillover but generally I go there weekday lunchtime when it is a perfect place to enjoy a bottle of wine and excellent bar food
prepared by Michel & crew who know exactly what they are doing. Dinner at night in the main restaurant has always been faultless and served at a standard way beyond what Beckenham
normally provides. Prices are just right for this standard of cooking. It's not a pub and does present itself as one - pity some of the customers don't seem to realize that.

The reviews are unbelievable harsh, which makes me think this is being reviewed as though it was somewhere to drink.

La Racasse is an Italian restaurant, and a damn fine one as well. I wouldn't go there purely for a beer (though for a glass of wine, out on the patio on a sunny day, perhaps) but for a meal I would go out of my way.

Potentially a great bar. If I do go there, I tend to vacate by about 8:30 when all the plastic ganstas and orange girls turn up.
They have banned hoodies, baseball caps and white trainers but it's still full of coke head tossers with jingle jangle jewelery and cheap tarts on the arm. A real shame because the food in the restaurant can be very good.

have to agree with others er : the plastic gangsters. The way to stop them coming in would be to get the doormen to watch the mens toilets very closely.

they ruin what is esssentially the best bar in the area !

otherwise absolutely great !

Potentially a good pub, but marred by overprice drinks, unfriendly staff and arrogant customers. This seems to be THE place to go if you're wealthy, have an attitude, and think that you're better than everyone else. Pricy, but decent food. Small and cosy, but... but hey, if you don't mind the above, it's a good place to go with your buddies if you don't want to be surrounded by young kids that populate Beckenham's bars.

Superficially atttractive - dark bar, nice garden well away from the traffic, three good restaurants (La Racasse (French) and Bibioteca and Pierluighi (Italian) in very close promximity.

Alas, over-priced and, as other people rightly say, a hang-out for gangsters. They're not actually going to beat you up, of course, but project enough hostility towards 'strangers' to make a visit to this place a less than carefree experience.

decent place for a posher night out. nice environment, the newly done out garden is pretty good as well. bar staff can be absolutely woeful at times, and as already mentioned, do check your change. better on a week night as at on a friday/weekend it gets rammed with pricks in pink jumpers ordering pink champagne and giving tenner tips and the like

Great outside 'all weather' space (with a VIP area for those Catford gansters and an extra bar). Wine selection is good and the clientele is out of nappies (happily). The food in the adjoining restaurant is fantastic (though would avoid the seafood platter as is a bit on the small side and full of those tiny, weeny brown prawns that have absolutely no flesh to them whatsoever) and the waiter service there is really good.

Local mafia hangout, careful who you bump into! Staff friendly, tending to keep your change as mentioned below. It's interesting of an evening, but there's a definite menacing air to the punters.

I've been here twice recently. Possibly one of the best places for singles looking to meet someone of the opposite sex in Beckenham. Unobstusive background music, apart from when they play sub-Jean Michel Jarre laced with "dolphin noises". It was very quiet on the two evenings I visited (Thurs and Sun). Unusually the majority of people in the pub seemed to be female and over 40. I saw a Frank Butcher style man aged about 55, but he ordered a cab for Park Langley, not Catford! The bar staff were mainly university students.

Cozy and atmospheric dark bar with restaurant attached. Good back yard in the summer, appeals to older crowd generally. Some wannabe Gangsters from Catford occasionally turn up, like Frank Butcher but with less hair. More wine/champagne bar then beer. Always check your change when buying drinks here.
