please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Long long wait for food which quite frankly wasn’t worth either the wait or the money.Very gristly beef and hard potatoes
We were told by the barmaid it would be a long wait but the landlady abruptly interrupted her and told her (not us) there wouldn’t be a wait and as I’ve said there was a wait, over an hour in fact.
Not once did a member of staff acknowledge us during our wait or apologise nor were we asked during our meal if everything was ok
My girlfriend lived in the area for many years and said they only really care for their local customers who keep them going during the non tourist months, fair enough but a customer is a customer and should be treated as one!

Sold me a nice pint of Joe's Dry real cider.

Located right in the centre of the High street, It looks small on the outside but has a large extension at the back. It makes the lounge long and thin with a slight dogleg where a pool table is located. The décor is modern with a raised section at the far end which appears to be used mainly for food. Real ale choice is reasonable. Lasagne came with just the right quantity with chips and salad for my appetite and was clearly home-made.

Friendly pub, Pool table and a juke box - an 80's throwback! plenty of space and good beer - being used by locals so always a good barometer of a pub.

Nice enough place but ridiculous prices, pint of thatchers gold and white wine £9.05! If you want to avoid bankruptcy go somewhere else.

Not bad, pleasant town centre location, beer adequate, and a good choice, but not the best kept ever, and service a little off-hand.

The Ship is probably marginally better.

Had an enjoyable Sunday lunch here which made up for the weather in Swanage not being up to much. Food was good except the roast potatoes which were so hard I had to go to check if my teeth were still in place after eating them. I was so hungry though that someone could've fried a dog turd and I still would've probably eaten it.

Pub had a comfortable relaxed feel to it. It was the sort of place where you could see yourself spending a long afternoon. Sampled the famous Dorset Piddle which was OK if a little uninspiring.

The bar staff were really friendly although I must say that they were flapping a bit and the pub wasnt even busy.

This pub gets a solid 6 out of 10 from me and I would definitely go back if I ever go to Swanage again

Piddle not at its best. Sat outside even though there was rain in the air

The safest thing to do with this pub, is get your bottled drink, and drink it outside. Although a bit fumy, watching Swanage go by is nice.

I has the misfortune to eat here on Friday 30th July. The wife had the liver & bacon which she said was fine. I paid nearly 17 quid for the mixed grill.
It was impossible to cut the steak, I say steak but it was actually a piece of fat and gristle. The gammon was of a similar standard and the pork was so overdone I could not cut it. Perhaps I had been given a very blunt knife.
On the whole I paid 17 quid for two small lamb chops, an egg and mushroom and tomato: They were the only edible items on the plate.
I'd have got better better value paying 17 quid for fishcake & chips in the chippy across the road. Be warned.....order the mixed grill at your peril.

Staff are young, fast and efficient.I had a pint of Piddle, which was alright, but nothing special.Quite a large menu, but we only stayed long enough for a quick pint. The decor and the atmosphere could be any urban pub anywhere although a couple of the "locals" were very keen to impress upon some other Londoners that it was all very London on Sea. Flat screen tv showing F1 with the volume up at the same time as they were playing anonymous cocktail bar jazz over the pa system. Not my kind of place and the beer's not good enough to lure me back.

Incidentally, cheshirecat , the Piddle beer is from the Piddlehinto brewery and has nothing to do with Wyre Piddle.

Good pub.
Good live band and friendly atmosphere.
Had a very acceptable pint of Goddards.
Bar staff, although busy, were very efficient and were served promptly.
Good location in the centre of town.
Outside tables to sit and watch the world go by.

I'm inclined to agree with Phantom_Pigeon's assessment of this pub. I was quite keen to try out the beers from the local Piddle brewery and the pub seemed to be doing a fine job promoting them, with a big sign outside advertising the fact that it was available within.
My father tried the eponymous 'Piddle', whilst I opted for the Silent Slasher; a 5.1% blond beer. It was a disappointing choice to be honest. The Slasher was cloudy and tasted fairly unpleasant and although the Piddle was better, I'm not sure I'd want to try it again.
Still, two beers do not make a pub, and the White Swan is a very nice little boozer, situated in the town square; ideal for a pint to wash down your fish and chips - just not a pint of Piddle.

Going by the previous comments, must have visited this pub on an off day.
Had a pint of Silent Slasher. It arrived very cloudy and would not clear. I was told that that was right. The notes on the Brewery website say different. God, it was awful and impossible to finish.
This is not a pub to which I would return.

Visited yesterday. 3 real ales on - 2 from Wyre Piddle plus Ringwood Best - all in fine condition. Was fairly, rather than very, busy but the staff seemed to be having problems coping. I's certainly go back.

Enjoyed a wonderful night at the White Swan. Food was fresh and delicious. Shared a twin room with a friend which was clean and comfy, with all mod-cons,
The bar man Stuart, was great, keeping us entaintained with his bar tricks....
The bar owner Simon was very hospitable, giving us a run down of the local area and history.

Highly recommended
We will definately come again

Good beer and well-priced for Swanage!
Pub is tidy, but some of the customers they let in!!!
Bar staff aren't always attentive, but with some of their customers I can't say that I blame them!
One pub that I personally avoid.

Good beer, overall an average pub.

Spent an enjoyable time sat in a comfy sofa with the sun on my back and a cold beer in my hand. There are worse things to do and worse places to do it than here!
