please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

A large and imposing pub with a splendid Georgian, even slightly Gothic exterior, one imagines that the inside must be similarly blessed with plentiful character and charm. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to be the case. It’s clearly been renovated at some point and is now a bland, unremarkable pub with something of a hotel bar feel to it, even down to the chain grill that had been pulled down over one of the bar counters that was not in use.

The right hand lounge bar was the one that was out of use on our visit, with the room being in darkness. The public bar on the left is an oblong room with a blue/green carpet, gold flock wallpaper with cream wood panelling down below, some red bench seating, a large wooden pew at one end and some chunky tables. A plasma was up in one corner showing the football, although fortunately the volume was off and there was background music playing. A darts board was at one end, as well as a fruit machine and a quiz machine. There are a few tables outside, but there is little in the way of an outlook as the pub is located on a busy junction.

Beers on tap were Doom Bar and the seasonal Rucking Rudolph. Ciders were Thatcher’s Gold and Bee Sting Pear cider. Overall, this was a fairly average pub. There was nothing wrong with it, and the landlord was friendly enough, but after the impressive exterior I imagine most people will be fairly disappointed when they get inside.

This waould be funny if it wasn't tragic. Called in after nice visit to the Barley opposite. Got through the door (just) into the Crown, noticed it was empty and barman (could have been manager) said "sorry, I am just closing" - and promptly did so. It was not even 9.30 in evening! I think we were saved, as I can easily imagine this is the the same character as mentioned in July 2009.

I had a big table booked in at this premises and all I have for this pub is praise. It was a table of tweleve and the waiter and waitress attened our every need. It's family run and the atmosphere was very warm and friendly. One member of staff when he had a sparemoment even played the piano for us to enjoy. I enjoyed the food as did the rest of my table. I would deffinatly go to the crown inn again. The Crown Inn 23 Bathwick Street Bath BA2 6NY.

The Crown on Bathwick, Terrible experience so avoid!

The Crown on Bathwick Street Bath is currently being run by a gentleman whos attitude to customers is poor. The Crown run a loyalty card where you can get a stamp for each main meal you buy and after four your fifth meal is free and its on ANY main meal, but this is a con and the owner cannot be trusted. Dont expect a good experience or value for money you may not get what you pay for!.

After visiting the Crown over a month my girlfriend and I had brought 4 roasts (11.95 each) and 4 mains (around 6.50 each) and at this price its border line value nothing special, but its ok for a night off from cooking without breaking the bank.
On the fifth visit we decided to use out free meal and decided on a main that was worth 12.95, we were told we would have to pay 1.50 each because it was the most expensive meal on the menu, we agreed.

The barmaid returned from the kitchen and said Hes not happy (referring to the owner) about you choosing the most expensive item on the menu and you will have to pay 3.50 each if you want it, read that sentence again! Because I am being told off in front of other customers about ordering food!. I am now being asked to pay 3.50 each for a basic pub dinner that is FREE its not value just a con and I fell hook line and sinker!

I asked to talk to the owner and he said the same telling me he was not happy that we thought we could buy 4 cheap meals each then get the most expensive item on the menu free, he actually blamed us for ripping him off! Even though my girlfriend and I had spent over 71 pound on food over the month plus drinks!!

He was rude, shouted and frankly blamed me for how he ran his business, I was with friends who were left speechless, we were standing at the bar as the chap walked off after his outburst. We all left leaving other customers in a very think atmosphere.

I would not have worried if the terms were on the card eg free meal to the value of X but the card is plain and simple buy 4 get one free no warnings no signs no notes on the menu, nothing!!.

This chap currently running the pub is a conman plain and simple, he knew exactly what he was doing and when it came down to it he could not give dam about customer experience. Avoid this place and dont give up any of your hard earned, you might not get what you pay for.

I feel sorry for him he must have really badly needed the seven pounds, so badly in fact he showed exactly what sort of person he was.

This pub has improved massively under new management. The food is amazing, it's so hard to find a really decent fresh Sunday roast served til 5pm and this is one of the best I've ever eaten. Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere, I can't recommend this place enough!
