Went in here on Saturday evening 8.30pm ish.It was not very busy.A few diners at the far end and a few people at the bar and tables who had all dispersed by about 10.20pm.Curious,as the Barman and serving staff were friendly. There was Harveys Best,Dartmoor and another draught beer as well as Stowford Press cider. These were enjoyed in comfortable surroundings with an open fire. We have been here a few times before at different times of year and it is very pleasant. The garden area with its view are popular in the summer. The Real Ales have included Timothy Taylor and other guest beers. The toilets are clean and tidy and there is a large car park. The pub is dog friendly.

Called in yesterday with friends for lunch, wonderful views, interesting bar area, cask ales much too cold though otherwise in good nick. Food quite horrible, my wife's trout a tiny portion, the rest of us had 'pie' - this seemed to be 2 pie crusts with previous days unidentifiable and very tough (purportedly lamb & beef) meat diced with veg and other barely adequate veg and all really rather expensive. Won't be going back, my advice - nor should you.

Agree with the previous reviewer who argued this place deserves a much higher rating than the 4.whatever it's currently on. It's not an out and out pub, but in my opinion strikes a very good balance between restaurant and pub. The food we had in the restaurant was very good, the service exceptional, and the bar area is surprisingly big. A place I'd happily re-visit, either just for a drink or for food, in summer with gorgeous views across the valley or in winter nestled next to the open fire. Recommended.

I was really hoping to like this place because the setting, with views over Tunbridge Wells, is so spectacular but I experienced overpriced and poor quality food - such a bad combination. I had an egg and spinach sandwich which had been made with stale bread and contained truly awful catering quality margarine. There is simply no excuse for abusing their customers' taste buds in this way when charging 9 for a garnished sandwich.

Went to this venue last Saturday . The first bright sunny day of the year . Sat out on the decking with great views across surrounding countryside .
We were invited to sit and order everything from our table . The waiter was friendly and had a great knowledge of the wines and beers available . The drinks orderedwere in great condition and well served . The food was very good and though a little expensive , with the service and the views the overall experience is a very good one . I have seen some other reviews and don't doubt that there have been some poor service and products delivered but on this occasion it was a pleasure to be there .

The current average rating for this pub is absurdly low. Whatever faults it may have (and there are some, to judge by the comments below) no pub which serves T.Taylor Landlord in such immaculate condition, at a not over-exorbitant price for the area, can possibly rate only 4.5. Add to that the outstanding situation, with its amazing views, together with what has always seemed to me to be friendly and helpful service ( notwithstanding the comments by SADE87 below) and you're looking at something considerably higher.
I'm sorry it's become even more food focussed - but that's the way things are going, I fear.

We visited The Beacon for a special birthday dinner and were very pleased with our choice. Its pricey but definately worth it. The interior is very comfortable and the staff very welcoming and helpful. The menu was good with plenty of choice and the food was outstanding, the wine was good too! Definatley recommend it.

Good beer, excellent interior. The people in there when we went (Sunday lunchtime) were very welcoming. Rapper sword friendly.

Had a meal at The Beacon and found the food to be quite average. Some Haddock, hand cut chips and peas.Nice sized fish but a bit bland. The service was average too with dis-interested staff who looked like they'd rather be somewhere else. Getting,Drinks, tea, etc took an age and service time in all respects was average at best and at worst slow to snail-like.I can handle a 20 minute wait for food but not an hour. The bar and eating area was clean and well kept though. The bill was way over priced when we got it,Shame really, there are so many other places that are so much better for less money.I dont think I'd use it again based on my this visit.

The older women in charge of the restaurant gave us the worst customer service me and many of my friends have EVER received she was vulgar. She had a go at me for asking for another slice of bread she actually went into one at me! She is constantly grumpy and agressive. If she's going through the menopause or doesn't like her job then she should go elsewhere. But at the moment she is driving this business to the ground. Me and lot of other people stay clear of this place just cos of this vile women. FIND ANOTHER PLACE TO MAKE MISERABLE PREFERABLY ON ANOTHER CONTINENT ...The food is lovely its such a shame

Worst over rated food in Kent. Tragic efforts post smoking ban, they even say where you can smoke out doors. Smokers area, two tables out of about 40, guess where, next to the swill and rubbish bins.

thank you, will never ever return again

Great views. Food at best ok.

I stopped off for a beer or two and found it to be quite nice....The bar area is well run and clean with quick service (though it was a quiet Thursday evening)ok choice of drinks too.I cant review the food as I didn't eat on this visit though the menu seemed average and acceptable.I liked the large open air beer garden with great views across the town and countryside. There is good parking to the rear of the site but I suspect this can get packed on weekend's.
I think, if anything,it lacked atmosphere and seemed all a bit too "nice".Still,it's an ok place to go and I'd return again at a leter date.I get the feeling it can get very busy though on say a Friday night so I'll leave that to another reviewer.

Overpriced and drab. Terribly over-rated!

Food is fantastic as is customer service. Bit packed if you just want a beer though. Lovely to sit outside in the summer on the decking.
