I feel this place has taken a turn for the worse of late. The atmosphere has changed and there is now music in the bar which tends to intrude. Last time I ate in here I was not impressed with the portion sizes of the fishcakes considering the price charged. The Harveys Best is always good although has increased 10% in price per pint since last month!

Eaten here several times now, excellent food and serice each time. Beer's not cheap but well kept. Had a good beer festival in the summer. All in all highly recommended (sit in the old part, its very quaint).

A charming exterior, which so often can deceive, and what lurks within is a corporate branded family restaurant nightmare. Happily, this is not so here. Although unusual for a Harvey's outlet in that it is large, very food-friendly and has music playing, it doesn't lack character, and the hallmarks of quality one expects from Harvey's are intact - namely well-conditioned ales (the Mild was lovely), and friendly, efficient service. It was a quiet time, being mid-afternoon, but I imagine a couple of hours later it would be a different story. I suspect it is a rare creature in managing to successfully combine a community local boozer with a family dining element.

Well worth a visit, either for a pint or a meal.

Went for lunch on a Wednesday, didn't think we'd need to book. Luckily we got there early, as it is obviously very popular and rightly so. Service was excellent - couldn't be faulted (unlike a previous review I had read - they must have gone on a bad day). Food was pretty good too. I could criticise a little, but then this is a 'pub' not a five star restaurant. I would definitely go there again and recommend it to others.

Definitely one to avoid. I want it all to myself. I thank you.

Beautiful pub, lovely decor and features. Just a shame that the service was not of the same standard. Was ignored at the bar and when finally acknowledged, a table was pointed out across the pub, which had been reserved for us. The table was right next to the staff table where waitresses were polishing cutlery etc and discussing how drunk they intended to get later. Not very inspiring when coming out to celebrate a birthday. It took a good 15 - 20 minutes before we were bought a menu, and even then, we were not told that we had to order from the bar (nor were ther any signs), which delayed our meal further. The food, when it came, however, was very good.
If the staff had been more attentive and the service better, I'd recommend this pub to others. But until significant improvements are made, I'd suggest going elsewhere. Sorry!

I love this place, it is related to the Chaser in Shipbourne and it shows. Everything quality, exept the heating! Harveys beer on tap is always going to get you of to a good start but everything matches your expectations. Highly reccomeneded.

Warm welcome from staff. Very old worldy pub (do watch your head), delicious food. Only downside's were: bar staff had to be told twice about no ice in drink and chocolate brownie dessert came with chocolate ice-cream instead of vanilla which made it a bit sickly. Otherwise highly reccommended for a very nice ladies lunch out. Oh also take a jumper as its quite chilly in there during the winter, unless you're very near the fire.

Fantastic pub, quality food and great atmosphere. Lots of nooks and crannies although ceilings are low in places - be warned! Friendly, knowledgable bar staff always willing to help.

I have been to this pub on 2 occasions, absolutely love it! The interior was excellent, a real proper nice pub...Great one to take any visiting tourists too. My 13 always remembered the chocolate ice cream he had there, he says it was the best he's ever tasted. The other food was good but not over brilliant, just a very lovely place to come for a drink, highly recommended

Nice looking pub, nice location, nice beer and good staff.

It loses 1 point for a 9 round (2x Harveys Best, 1 x pint OJ and lemonade, 1/2 x lemonade) and 1 more point for a below average turkey sandwich and drowing salad in dressing.

I would go back though

Good food in clean dining room, a bit pricey but well worth it as service is good. Families welcome. Friendly staff.

Interior is very nice, garden has a decked area at the back with heaters and water wheel feature. The food is fantastic. Groups can book private areas. The service is first rate if you are in a group all the food arrives at the same time using more than 1 staff.
Its not cheap but you get what you pay for.
