This is actually one of the worst Enterprise Inn's pubs i have ever been to in my life. Very limited selection of beers on tap. Typical Enterprise Inns fodder. Line after line of fluorescent alcopops in the fridges. Beck Vier. Sparse range of Vodkas.

I ordered a Smirnoff - It tasted watered down. No food. The door staff were rude, sarcastic and quite possibly the most unfriendly bunch of people i have ever had the misfortune to meet.

For a proper pub with great music, go to somewhere like The Garage or The Big Red, just up the road.

The atmosphere is terrible and it's safe to say i shall never be drinking in this establishment again. AVOID.

note that some of the information here is out of date and I can't see a way to change it without being charged! It's now a 7 nights a week (if there's enough bands touring!) music venue and we no longer servere food. you can see what we've got coming up at nambuccalondon.com

Great venue for music, but shocking door staff (making us queue although the bar was almost empty, confiscated sealed cans of lager(fair enough, but failed to return them when we left). Greene King Abbot was undrinkable, but they continued to serve it even after being advised of this.

MARCH 2011. recently attended Nambucca with a friends band, and was there from sound check till closing, along with 3 other bands..around 20-25 people! we were all stunned when someone bought in a huge tray of tea/coffee crisps and biscuits for all of us!! they could not have nicer or more helpfull to everyone there. An outstanding sound system/pa and sound engineer. the whole place was clean, tidy, welcoming, and friendly.. all of us agreed. Very unpretentious, we all loved it.!!

Recently burnt out, was quite good, occasional good acts and cheap beer.

Don't think it was an insurance job, although it had recently changed owners, but burning down a pub full of people, you could be looking at serious time for that, if it was insurance they'd do it when it was empty, and not when all your instruments are in the basement.

Spot on the comments below, thankfully the wannabes will have to go somewhere else now as the place burnt down last night!

Insurance job?????

I live near here and it used to be a cool pub that you could go in and see a decent live band with people who were more into music than wearing a silly hat. Now its frequented by boys who think that wearing shades outside the pub at midnight is cool (may look good if your a pop star on stage, you just look like a nob on the Holloway Road in the dark) and girls that drunkenly run across the road to Dominos to get their pizza to throw up. The people that run this would love to make it as cliquey and narrow as places like The Boogaloo/The Hawley Arms and if that's your thing, then fair enough. If however you don't want to be surrounded by wanna be Pete and Amys and want something different there are plenty of pubs around that offer a true alternative, The Gaff being just one.

flipping good, it may offend some ear drums but this place has a couple of regular acts who represent just about the best folk you could hope to catch in this country. it might be a bit of a cult venue, and yes it's noisy, but that sound that you think is distracting from your real ale is great music, and those kids you think are a giggling clique of coke heads know more about guitars and lyrics than you will ever know about barrels, pipes and the correct procedures for storing and serving old ale.

Everone here is just up for a fun night...maybe its the laughing gas but everyone leaves witha smile on their face!!!

This place is cool.

I assume by 'yer typical holloway scumbags', you mean the asbo moped riding crack head knife weilding dodgy dealing drug peddling weirdos many people think of as holloway scumbags. Its funny, when ever ive been in there ive been surrounded by genuinly nice people making music and having fun whilst the drunken boys are more interested in how their hair looks than to start fights with anybody that looks at their 'birds' or supports the wrong football team. I have been a regular at the pub for a while now and i have never seen a sniff of a fight or trouble or general scumbagginess because people are more interested in just having fun like the old days. I really dont see the point in writing reviews and slagging off pubs that you obviously dont want to fit into. Its like reviewing an Arsenal game as a Tottenham fan and just saying, 'yeah Highburys a sh*t hole'. Its sloppy journalism really. Have you ever tried laughing gas?

First and foremost, Nambucca is a 300 capacity live music venue.
Its lack of imagination in the beer department isnt relevant. And at 2.50 a pint I can hardly see how you can call the place expensive.
Neither is the PA particularly loud. Granny at the council wont allow it, and theres sound limiters installed on the decks making it quieter than your average club. Maybe you should spend the night in having a cup of tea with her if your eardrums are falling out.
Typical Holloway scumbags? I cant think of any other similar-sized venue with so few problems in terms of people fighting. Every night bouncers stand at the doors, and every night they have nothing to do because inside everyones so friendly to each other.
Oh no! 3 entry price on a Saturday! I dont know how you coped for the rest of the month until pay day. Promoters book bands to play, bands play and need money to cover their costs, so you pay money to get in if you hadnt noticed, its the way the world works. The fact that its on Holloway Road makes no difference. In fact, why should you have to travel to central London every time you want to see live bands?
And Im not even gonna start on that dangerous chair theory
Nambucca hosts several of the best club nights, has put on many of the fine bands in music at the moment, and does some of best Thai food in North London.

One to avoid as it's an over priced joint with a lack of imagination in the beer department and furniture excavated out from the Blitz.

Went there on a Saturday night when a live band was on and left within 30 secs for the fear of my ear drums falling out.

Needs to review its prices ont he basis it's not in the West End. No real atmosphere unfortunately. It used to be a good pub 5 years ago!!

GOOD LITTLE PUB

drumandmonkeyfan - 22 Mar 2006 16:22
Once upon a time this was a grand place - great roast dinners, live music, chilled people - now seems to have attracted yer typical Holloway scumbags.... shame
anonymous - 11 Mar 2006 23:06
Full of foppish students and giggling girls snorting lines in the loos. Alternative and retro night out. Tremendous tunes blasting out on a Saturday night. Drink is pretty expensive considering its pretty grungy. All-in-all not a bad venue for retro music lovers and indie bods.
kilfeighneyrose - 9 Feb 2006 10:49
I think some of you people are drastically misunderstanding the point of Nambucca. Its a pub, yes, but mainly its a music venue for people who enjoy music to come and socialise with youthful artistic creative non-chav people and watch bands, run by youthful artistic creative non-chav people. Hence loud music, Saturday night charged gigs and not really caring about fancy sofas.

Oh and anonymous 22 may, the best pub in holloway? Sarcasm my dear, sarcasm.
meady - 14 Nov 2005 17:10
Went in there one saturday a while ago as part of a little pub crawl but was told I had to pay 3!This was only at 7pm someone should tell the owners that its Holloway Road
Hamhead - 16 Aug 2005 17:22
I live round the corner venture in here occasionally. Once on a live music night...never again. Everyone tries to outdo the rest with their individuality. They just look stupid. And they love themselves.
On other nights it's okay to go for a quiet one and a game of Trivial Pursuit.
They seriously need to review their prices though. This is Archway not Soho. And get some new furniture.
Madagascar - 14 Aug 2005 17:32
This place used to be okay, although a bit quiet. Then they started live music. I only went once and I left quickly because the music was so loud it was litteraly painful.
akiking - 15 Jul 2005 17:37
i have to agree with anoymous with the furniture it is rather unpleasant and tacky and the decor is manky like some old peoples bingo hall!!! but other than that its a arty trendy goth place with good live bands and pleasant staff esp the friendly young irish guy but it doesn't have that relaxin pub comfort atmosphere if they changed the furniture it would make a massive difference!
M.murphy - 23 May 2005 15:08
This place claims to be "The best pub in Holloway"?
Ha! Ha! ha! ha! Who do they think they are kidding?

The place is a tip with rickety and knackered dangerous pub furniture to sit on with with similar wobbly tables for added effect!
It's pretty obvious that most of the seating has been saved up from countless house clearances and recycling centres, the place reminds me of Steptoe and Son's house in some areas!

I'm surprised that the place hasn't been closed down yet through injury insurance claims, because you put yourself at risk simply entering this place!

If you like standing at the bar and want a cheap beer it's okay, otherwise Avoid!

Nice place, very roomy, good vibe and the band thing works well.
anonymous - 13 May 2005 11:06
