Closed now but was always a bit of a crud hole in my view.

The Gari is shut now. it was a bit rough but the old crowd that got in there was nice guys, well most of them anyway.
ronnysdad - 21 Jul 2010 18:20
Closed down, thank the Lord!

First time in the UK for 4 months so I popped in for a pint. Unfortunately the doors were closed and the lights were off. I guess the Garabaldi is no more.
wyvernuk - 19 Feb 2010 14:15
Been drinking in here for about 18 months but not as much as I used to.

I admit that it's not the nicest of pubs regarding decoration but it's history, regulars and character make it what it is. The pub is small, ales are little as it's more a lager pub.

Good for watching a game of football or horse racing. In the 18 months I have been there I have been approached by people selling DVD's but nothing else. Nor have I seen any fight inside the pub.

It's a nice bar and if a local with regulars is your thing then you could do worse.

Never been in here....and I will drink anywhere.

Speaks volumes really.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!! Not a great advert for Staines. If you can squelch through the carpet to get to the sticky bar you are usually greeted with money bags over the pumps as they have ran out of beer again!! The landlord needs to smarten up and stop popping to the bookies every five minutes. The bar staff are clearly alcohol abusers who should not be in that job, to much temptation and if you are brave enough to sit down beware of the local junkies and thieves trying to sell you a rail of jumpers that they have just pilfered from Debenhams. As for the toilets, well literally don't go there! The beer is warm, the glasses are dirty, how comes every other pub can get lipstick off their glasses?? I think what I am trying to say is please for your own safety do not use this pub but if you do please think of others and wipe your feet before leaving!

What a poxy hole this place is, crap and full of scumbags. Avoid.

You won't have a more eventful night down South. Northener friendly, full of loons, my ideal day / night out

What a nightmare!

I popped in here for a few drinks before getting the train home. Smallish pub but had some good regulars. Only thing that ruined it was the guy who was obviously high on Crack kept trying to sell me stolen goods.

Wonderful old fashioned pub. Landlord and landlady are friendly and very generous. Full of colourful local characters who make everyone feel welcome.

jackrussell - 11 Feb 2009 11:41
You always hear people complaining that the good olde traditional English pub has died! People it hasn't died, it's the Garbaldi!!!! The above reviews simply do not reflect the Garbaldi. Sure if you're looking for an old English pub that has been converted into some swinging wine bar effort, then the Garibaldi is not for you. However, if you love live music, sports, pool, fun and laughter and as much as you can the get, then the Garibaldi should be your pub. The landlord and landlady always welcome you and go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. The pub has a great atmosphere, heaving at weekends, let me tell you, the traditional English pub hasn't died, it lives on, in the Garbaldi.

Quite possibly the worst pub in Staines. Its small, pokey and the range of customers border on something from a Horror movie.

I even heard that the landlord was fighting last week. Avoid at all costs.

A pikey hellhole which now seems to attract a slightly under-the-weather ghey crowd. Dreadful beer, weird Staines underclass regulars you couldn't invent with the occasional slummer with a taste for risk. Grim decor and ubiquitous sport droning on the tvs. In short, you gotta try it out once!

So bad it's almost good...
BananaSundae - 31 Aug 2008 19:24
I LOVE IT!!! It's like Sunset Beach or The Original Series of Star Trek (watching it by our present day standards), it's so bad, it's good!

Like the only place that knows the people that are over 18 and those that aren't and don't pester us that are and know straight away those that aren't.

Kudos "Gariba Di"! :p

p.s. I know, it's like the BEST letter dislodge of a name EVER!!! I remember just turning 18, after a film with a bunch of my mates, we went there and my friend says "It's called The Garibaldi", am was like "o, ok", look at the name above and I think to myself "HOW is it called the Garibaldi?"... THAT WAS THREE YEARS AGO!!! Only JUST realised like a month ago :D
Muse_Luver - 17 Oct 2007 15:41
Took a while of pondering why it was called the "gariba di" b4 actually realising it wasnt called that! As said previously no real ale, so a mediocre 6/10 it has 2 be.
fat_beer_badger - 18 Jun 2007 11:42
Popped in just now, has improved a bit, I'll give it that.

Plus points:

There's been a lick of paint and some new lights inside. The lad serving behind the bar was good as well. It was fairly busy (though Arsenal were on the box). And the piano too - does anyone play it?

There are still a lot of negative points for me though:

No real ale, basic but important. Jukebox skipped through the Queen song that was on during my swift half. Premiership footy was on as well, courtesy of some Arab TV channel on a nice widescreen telly but the aspect ratios weren't set properly. And having music PLUS footy on at the same time is highly irritating. There were also the same rather dubious looking characters I remember from previous visits. The front porch was grotty and litter-strewn.

Quite a few locals love it - it's never empty. Not for me though, and probably never will be. I can't recommend it at all.

It appears the name outside this pub is still showing: "Gariba Di"... (probably since the windows were smashed last September..!) I like the sound of that, it has a Spanish ring to it! Maybe the landlord should keep it that way permanently! "GARIBA DI"...
A small pub indeed. Quite smokey (if you like your evenings 'smoked'..) but staff seemed helpful enough (I got a beer, so thats ok). The 'Gariba Di' helped me out recently, when I was refused entry at "Baroosh" (in Staines high st.) with my 17yr old daughter! But at least I was able to get a pint & an orange juice in here!! Well done the 'Garibaldi' for that.
(Were licensing laws brought in to prevent parents taking their 17yr olds for a 'sensible' drink in a pub...? I don't think so folks! Get a grip Baroosh staff!) Buenos noches amigos..!! TJ
TeeJay - 30 Aug 2006 13:30
expensive, unfriendly unless your from Stanwell and full of troublemakers price of drink changes depending what bar staff is serving
anonymous - 23 Aug 2006 10:44
Scares the life out of me, and I've been in my fair share of pubs.

No real ale, so no point in me going there either.
Quinno - 12 Jul 2006 22:37
At last this pub has got otself a decent team to run it. Harry and the crew are good folk who can only improve this old pub. Give them a chance, you'll like it.
HalyconDays - 23 May 2006 18:12
This pub isn't closed, it did close for a refurb but has been open again for ages
anonymous - 24 Jan 2006 17:13
Now shut along with the Littern Tree. Windows smashed etc. That end of Staines is dying.
chimp - 23 Sep 2005 13:40
True it is full of local regulars, but thats not a bad thing. Two pool tables, an interesting mix of Punk and Ska on the jukebox. It has a good selection on draught, this place really should be more popular than it is.
beerabuser - 28 Feb 2005 13:57
Really could do with a bit of renovation. Position on the end of the high street means it is often forgotten. Expect heads to turn as you walk in.
Zod - 10 Sep 2004 15:48
Great local pub...I started working here at the Garibaldi just before christmas.. due to
the bad rep of this pub i thought it was not going to be a great place to work in..
But over the couple of months i have seen this pub in its true colors.. it may not look nice
on the outside but the locals are very warm and welcoming to all who visit.. the staff
come and go but its the locals who make it a staines true treasures.. Alan keep up the
good work....
jenny - 25 Feb 2004 14:52
quaint,, sophisticaited,
no eastenders, corrie, home and away, needs more bar staff.

phil - 24 Feb 2004 10:37
We visited this pub one afternoon and whilst I'd agree that it could appear a bit uninviting, we found the locals to be perfectly friendly. I personally thought that it was one of the nicest pubs we went to in Staines. We would've liked to stay for more than one pint if we'd had the time. My advice - give it a chance.
anne - 6 Jan 2004 15:14
The outside of the pub is very uninviting. Peering through the windows, you are greeted by a dark and dingy place with 3 locals at the bar. On this basis - never been in !
