Scummy. Very dirty. Shame as it used to be a nice pub and had good food a few years ago. I needed the loo while I was there but didn't dare chance it!

A shame this pub has gone so far downhill. The staff have given up and the way they deal with noisy rowdy customers is to turn the juke box up! It seems they are so desperate for customers they don't dare say anything to them. The gents is about as bad as I've ever experienced. A noisy, scruffy pub with nothing to recommend it.

Handily placed and almost equidistant between Berkhamsted and Tring on the Grand Union canal, I'm afraid this place seemed a little tired to us. A proliferation of Help for Heroes collection boxes signifies a mood of weary patriotism but this isn't really matched by a cavernous interior which was presumably once characterful but has been eroded by Theme Park Britain. Not terrible but not that good either.

Good independent pub, large garden, very handy for the Grand Union Canal. A few rough edges give it a bit of soul you just don't get in the chains. A real bonus for the area. Just the job if with kids - no change from 2005 in that respect!

A great pub. Used to go in there decades ago and sit on the seats in the massive fireplace in winter. Visited it again a couple of weeks ago... very friendly and welcoming.

Pub open but in the process of refurbishment - I'm assured it won't affect it's character. Lovely place to stop when walking the Canal or Chiltern Way. Delicious Thai food very good value at lunchtime.

The Thai food was excellent, Service Good, esp. for a late Saturday lunchtime, London Pride was average+(lively), (didn't try the others but all were on). What more can one ask for after walking from Ivinghoe Beacon?
My first visit - live near Reading. June 2007 +agree with others. and yep, the Gents is still being modernised ;)

Close to the Grand Union Canal and on the A4251 this old inn, which I believe used to cater for the cattle trade in days of yore and possibly a coaching inn as well, is now a Thai pub and serves the ubiquitous Abbot Ale, Green King IPA & London Pride. The Abbot was well kept and the Thai menu inviting but untried. The toilets however have seen better days, just hope the ladies were in better nick! Still undecided about this place and will revisit on a day where punters outnumber the staff and barmaid not expectorating loudly in the back garden! Will give it a cautious 5/10 for present.

A good pub & an even better place to eat, the Thai meals are superb & totally authentic.

The staff are as friendly as you are ever likely to find.

A great pub to take the kids/family as the beer garden is huge & jam packed with things to keep the kids busy while you enjoy your hard earned pint(s).

Technically in Wigginton, but nowhere near the village, It's hidden on the old A41 main road (now A4251) between Berkhamsted and Tring.
This pub is now privately owned and run as a Thai restaurant as well as a pub, but it still works well as a pub. Very friendly staff, good pint of London Pride, pool table. Great place for a lunchtime stop if you are walking the nearby canal. (handy car park for same).
