This pub is awful! I visited with my family and once they had taken our money, let us sit down and started to browse the food menu, the guy who had just served us suddenly decided to "ID" my 2 sons. Although my 16 year old sun was drinking coke (quite legally)he told us to leave. In turn the Landlord also said the same and although I said we would leave once we had finished the drinks we had paid for this wasn't good enough and he called the police to throw us out. O'Neills and their English owners Mitchells and Butlers of Birmingham sucks. All the jolly old Irish welcome, Irish pub is hype. Their own website says its Bournemouths warmest welcome! Don't make me laugh. O'Neills are an FTSE quoted company and a huge concern, so huge they are obviously too grand to answer my complaint. If you want a friendly Irish pub with plenty of "craic" go elsewhere.

Now stocks Budvar dark in bottles (quality Czech lager). Anyone who's been to Prague will testify that this is indeed a very fine beverage!

Pual c you are a idiot and do not know the new laws. If someone is under 18 and wishes to have alcohol they must be in a food area of the venue ie bistro or resturant and as oneills do not have one in this case its against the law for your child to drink alcohol untill they set aside an area for diners only. and why be such a prat and wast police time when im sure they explained there reasons for not having children in there venue. like most high street venue they focus on over 18 crowd and are more lickly to have adult using bad langue and unsuitable conversions that are not suited to children. if you are to take your child to the pub for food i suggest that you go to the beach as these venues are more suitable but do not be suprised if they do not let your child have alcohol in there places because under 18 should not be aloud to drink in public in my view. I have been to oneills meny times over the past 5 years and have found there service and atmosphere to be fine and suggest that you do not go there again as there already is to many idoits and prats on the landsdown roundabout and i belive you would be suited at decons you stella drinking chav

Sunny Bournemouths warmest welcome. Traditional Irish pub. Don't make me laugh!! I visited there saturday 29th March with my sons for a drink and a bit of lunch, it was a joy to get out of the strong winds and rain. After buying drinks and sitting down we were just looking at the menu when the same barman then asked for ID from my sons (20 and 16) I stated it was a bit late as we had already been served and my youngest was with me. My youngest was perfectly legally drinking coke and we were about to order food so he could have legally had a beer! Neither he or his manager would listen to reason and wanted to throw us out. I said we would leave under protest after we had finished our drinks which wasn't good enough for the landlord of the pub with Bournemouths warmest welcome so he called the police. 1) Traditional Irish pubs welcome families. 2) If this is Bournemouths warmest welcome they can stick it. 3) O'neills have just lost a regular customer, I vow never to set foot inside one again until I receive a full explanation and an apology. Thanks O'neills for ruining a nice family day out with my sons. Paul.

The upper (now non-smoking) bar is a great place to chill out after a hard day in the office. Service, quality of Guinness and food all very impressive!
|
i love it, one of the first pubs i actually liked when i came to bournemouth, always have a good night there and the staff are fabulous!
|
O'Neills could be the place to go again, now that the previous manager has gone. Happy days. Dont go to Fruit.
|
A great pub.Full of life.Good live music and spacious
|
i know the new manager and he is not as bad as the last one that was there
|
this pub is the best pub in bournmouth
|
Town centre pub which has got it just right. Good bar staff with table service, excellent friendly doormen (and woman – she’s superb) with live music or what I’d class as a ‘decent’ disco.
|
Cold busy and a serious lack of staff at busy times. Young arrogant manager needs someone with more experience.

Nice pub with good friendly staff. Ate in there recently mid afternoon, hadn't noticed the special offers board they had but the friendly barman pointed this out and put the food through at the lower price for me. They weren't busy but even so I was very impressed with the speed and quality of service. The food was basic but good and the barman happily went back to the bar to get us more drinks and walked back to us with the change etc. Unusual to find a beer garden in central bournemouth (certainly on this side of town) and although its a bit bland (empty hanging baskets etc look a bit sad!)its got plenty of tables.

Great pub, great atmospher and great live music
|
Probably the best pub on the eastern side of Bournemouth town centre. Live music, excellent bar and door staff and plenty of Guiness on tap. Used to be known as the Lansdowne when it was infamous for a hostage siege back in the 80's I believe. Seems to attract the more mature pub goers.

Do not leave anything in this pub, you will not see it again. I know 2 people who have lost their phones in here. One even phoned up and spoke to a member of the bar staff. He came in at the next opportunity to pick it up only to be told, "oh, we've lost it, sorry - maybe the cleaners nicked it".
Scum. Don't drink here
|
I agree it is a great place to go. Great atmosphere and great staff. They've all been really friendly and would do anything for you, even if it is out of their way.
I have seen them get rid of the odd person on a friday/saturday night but thats because either the person is passed out on the floor of they're just being a complete wanker to the staff.
I myself have worked behind a bar and it's not nice to be spoken to in a "oh your just work behind a bar" sorta way so good on em I say!
Have been going to O'neills for the last 4 years and would recommend it to anyone who likes live rock music and a good SAFE friendly environment!
Yeah I heard they've got music on thurs fri and sat and are looking to do it everynight soon! YAY

I've been coming here most weekends and the odd weeknight since I moved to Bournemouth amd I love the place! Since the Gander died and it looks like the Villa seems to be going the same way, this must be the only real place to see live music in central Bournemouth (not counting the broom cupboard in the Triangle-you know where I mean!)If your a live music fan, like me, then this is the place to come (especially as I heard they're starting live music on more nights soon-maybe every night?) Yeah, it looks a bit scruffy and shabby from the outside; and it's definitely nothing like any of those soul-less trendy style bars (Karma, Toko, Bliss)-THANK GOD! but inside are some of the friendliest people I've ever met (staff AND drinkers!) The people who put that the staff are rude- what did you do to upset them???!!? I have always been treated like an old mate whenever I come here (even the first time!-that's one of the reasons I kept coming back!) and they even serve you drinks at your table something that I've never had in any other pub. I have seen people removed for being downright abusive/violent to the barstaff or other customers, but isn't that how it should be everywhere? At least you know they wont let any idiots bother you (unlike, ooh, every other pub on Old Christchurch Rd, except Fruit and Bar Vin, maybe?)And even when they do remove people, the staff and doormen don't "throw" people out; they just talk them into going, (unlike, ooh, AGAIN!, every other pub on Old Xchurch Rd, except Fruit and Bar Vin!) Oh and the Beer Garden's great on a hot day.

Nice Pub with good live music at weekends, shame about the staff who are arrogant & confrontational
|
Good bands and guinness just a pity about the bar staff and doormen. They are the most miserable bunch of t'ssers in Bournemouth. And I love the goth-girls on Friday night.
|
Usually a good atmosphere, most staff are very friendly here bar the odd exception!
|
Good for seeing a band on a Friday or Saturday. Mixed age group - not full of 18 year olds. Easy night out.
|
Really quiet during the week in here and they actually serve drinks to your table which is quite nice.
|
Better than average for the area. Noisy.
|
Had a fantastic night in August listening/ dancing to Juice. Fantastic Band. When are they playing Again??????

Went there Sat 17 April and shook my money maker all night to band ! Excellent night out! Ok - staff not 100% and but I found secuity charming to say the least LOL!

the first time i went to this pub i wasn't impressed.the staff were scruffy, rude and obviously not interested in the customers at all. However i was persuaded by my boyfriend to give it another go.that was mistake number 2.A butch bouncer with an arnie wannabe hair cut threw my b/f out and to the floor BY ACCIDENT!-seems the assistant manager needs a few lessons in description and possibly management.
|
not a place for the student. service is a bit cack but they're all characters at least! the bands that play are all cover bands, although yes, they are good ones. has two seperate bar areas, with the cleintelle in one seeming to be 30+ rockers and the like on live nights, and the other area for your common or garden drinker. not much to shout about, certainly not likely to be on my local crawl, and i only live 2 minutes away.
oh and i went to that Food Sex and Violence thing. erm, !!!!!
Ris - 12 Mar 2004 04:43 |
ok place, gets really busy though and can take some time to get to the bar!
rebecca - 4 Jan 2004 21:29 |
Good live bands, but don't complain about being ignored by the bar staff. My friend did (he was not abusive) and we were all asked to leave. Witnessed this overreaction on more than one occasion. Also charge to get in after 10pm on the weekend, which seems a bit rich. You will also wait ages to get in after this time

Some excellent cover bands play here.. One of a few pubs with a beer garden in bournemouth town centre.
Kev - 26 Aug 2003 17:04 |
Gets quite busy. Nothing wrong with it really.
Jon - 17 Aug 2003 18:35 |
very good in the summer in the beer garden. you even get bar staff coming to your table to get you drinks. Excellent.
bexley - 21 Mar 2003 16:07 |
Concur with the above but the bouncers tend to let too many people in so it goes off fairly frequently.
John - 31 Jan 2003 09:33 |
Every Friday and Saturday, high quality live music, buzzing atmosphere, rapid and friendly bar service, and open 'til 1AM. How can you resist?
