Some corrections to make..... I think the pub to which DannyBoy refers is on the other side of the road but it has since been demolished some time ago. The staff he mentions were at the other pub also. The beams and foyer area must have been a different pub altogether.....
Not good. Saw people eating their KFC's in the pub the other day!
Fanz only makes positive posts for the D&D which, simply, is an estate pub with a clientele which is allowed to do its own thing! Significanly better Redhill pubs are The Sun, Junction and Hone Cottage - all of which serve food and insist on children being monitored. Unlike the D&D...
this pub suprizes me constantly....they had the most amazing new yr's eve party that we were all welcomed to and i would like to thank the fantastic staff and sam the manager there for making the effort and getting dressed up like the rest of us and working so hard to make it a nite i sure will not forget...the most fun me and my mates have had in awhile...well done guys you deserve some recognition for wot u all do...
what more could you boring old farts want from the pub... they have good beer thats looked after properley, reasonably priced, they do karaoke for those who think they are the next mariah or elton john and they put dj's on for those of us who like going out for a dance.. if what you want is boring then go join the oap no music deadend crew in the sun and leave the dog and duck pub for us who have a pulse and dont slag the manager or staff off.. yes its a tough old pub so them a break, they do a fantastic job there.....
Why does boat think that those of us who give an opinion on the D&D only have one pint? This estate pub has a long history of trouble and nothing has changed - although I would agree that the new landlady is working hard to improve things. Boorish behaviour continues unchecked and children often have free reign; it is often almost impossible to gain entry through the smokers outside the main door. Very poor staff are the main problem - they need to be more interested and manage the shouters etc. a lot better.
Well i suggest that those people who pop in there for 1 pint and then come on here and give reviews should try it for longer...the pub has a very friendly atmosphe now and is ran with the greatest of professionalism.....i love going out at weekends and will always visit the dog and the main reason being is the fact that with all the staff including the door supervisors i am made to feel extremely welcome and safe ..........the children in need night was an absolute blast as for male strippers it was hardly that just a couple of blokes and should i say girls to having a fun and raising money for a gr8 cause........its says at the top of this feed ...and i quote "reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors ...PLEASE DONT TAKE THEM TO SERIOUSLY....... i would like to take this opportunity to thank Sam and her gr8 staff for some fab nites and hope that there are a lot more to follow......signed someone who drinks lots of beer and not 1 or 2 pints in this pub .......keep up the good work guys x

Now that's a great idea. Male strippers in support of Children in Need. What next? A pig roast for Ramadan?
Its good to see a new person at the helm, instead of these dried up dead wood that was managering it before...weekends r brilliant,so will continue going there every other week or week....instead of walking in there and there is 40+ aged customers dribbling over the bar...
I've frequented pubs that have served me a worse pint, that have a poorer standard of decor, have more disagreeable punters or fewer drinks on offer; however they have all had at least one redeeming feature. This place doesn't based on our visit last month and I didn't even venture into the toilets or try any food if indeed they were serving. Certainly a candidate for worst pub in Surrey although I am yet to visit the Gipsy Tavern in West Croydon.
best pub in redhill by far, good management and good staff have turned that dump around to become the place to go. as for the strippers u people r talking about it was only for 1 nite only to raise money for the BBC children in need event.. and they done a fantastic job raising just under a grand.. i will continue to be a patron off the dog and duck for as long as it lasts. too many bad managers in the past have destroyed it and the lady that is there and her team do a great job

Only Surrey pub with male strippers! Not a pretty sight....
Extremely poor management - and, now, the food has stopped (didn't last long!)
Dire place - worse than ever! Male strippers this week - Full Monty. Supposed to be doing food, but its rarely seen - and the place is often like a kids' playground.
Now, this newly refurbished town centre pub is serving food for the first time in decades!
Sadly, after the lick of paint, no real change and no food - but same 'regs'........
Opening today, July 8th. Hours - 9am to Midnight (2am at weekends). With the closure of the nearby Liquid & Envy niteclub and the reopening of the newly refurbished Home Cottage pub (also today), Redhill's pub profile will have improved considerably. Maybe Wetherspoons might now also upgrade their tired local outlet.
Currenty closed - for refurbishment.
Not before time and one can only hope that they do it well and have stricter customer vetting, on reopening; far too many 'down and outs' served here previously.
The local council now has an application for some structural alterations to this pub (incorporating new door and canopy) - and it would seem that the work will include an internal refit. Long overdue!
Went in - No draft beer pull visible - Went out
Quite liked the smell being pumped from their odour machine though
Good pub unfair 'sensitive comments posted by fearful shadow dwelling folks unlikely to ever use the pub again are not going to stop old and new customers from having a good time
It would be hard to find a worse pub.....
Closed - shut?
It was today.
Could it be the long awaited refurb.....no!
Just probably fixing the awful toilets, leaking roof etc.
Botched jobs 'cos Marstons (brewery) just want to get rid!!
Closed today.
An 'estate pub' - could well be the worst in Surrey. Beer and hygiene standards are very low, as is the typical calibre of customer.
No food - just as well! The place is starting to fall apart with a leaking roof etc. - and the heating recently broke down. Fights are frequent, but nobody seems to care.
Remains one of the worst pubs in Surrey, still needing a major refurbishment. The toilets defy description.
A new manager arrived last week; he eats (takeaway McDonalds) at a front table and would not inspire confidence in this pub's future - if there is any.
Refurb hasn't happened - but heating has been fixed and its warm. But the brewery - Marstons - will have to put their hand in their pocket soon to bring this run down pub back to a reasonable standard. A 3+ rating is very generous.
The long awaited refurbishment seems further off that ever. No date has yet been set - but the fact that the heating has totally packed up make things a bit more critical!
Closing in August for refurbishment.
first pub we drank in since moving to Redhill. service was quick and friendly. beer was fine. music a bit too loud. I've drunk in a lot worse pubs than this. maybe coming from london we've got low standards but it did the job for us.
The date for the long overdue refurb has been put back indefinitely....dunno why? Terrible place, in the meantime! Will it change? - I think not!
The D&D is closing in February for a major refurbishment - which is not before time. Will this help to bring this awful pub back, from the brink ?
Maybe 'The Observer' should visit the Dog and Duck to realise the comments are factual
Why do wanna be comedians use this site to post absolute rubbish.
Went in recently by the front door, unfortunately. Lucky to get out by the side one. Is there any place as bad - Nags Head, Peckham ?
Needs to be a decent Pizza restaurant to challenge a certain outlet opposite. Not many will miss its demise, if it happens.
The Dog and Duck is open - only closed for a day. It remains on the market.
I doubt if there WAS a worst pub in Surrey. Hadn't realised it had now shut. I think it was called 'Crooks' not 'Crocks'!!
Passed by (would not dream of going in) this pub last Thursday - it was closed. Last time I was there, a fight started at about 3pm. The Mick McGinty mentioned by a previous poster met his end in this pub - then called Crocks.
Is there a worse pub in Surrey ? This place is TERRIBLE. No hygiene, poor staff and the clientele give the Surrey Mirror most of its copy. On the market again....
An absolute dump. The frequenters of this hostelry can be viewed on the street. You won't want to go in.
Looks OK from the outside, but once inside it gives the impression of being the sort of place where you expect the police to come in at any moment, find somebody to take away to 'help with their inquiries' and depart to a chorus of "f*** off you w***ers" from the charmless clientele. And so it proved to be! No real ale, but had my first pint of keg Pedigree (that was served so cold it could easily have been John Smiths or Caffreys for all the taste it had left) - not an experience I plan to repeat in the near future. Currently put up for letting by the Marston's Pub Company (as the rather large and off-putting sign on the High Street facade makes clear).
A terrific place to be in the Pete Williams / Mick McGinty days, but destroyed by inept managers and the decision to rely on Sky Sport to drum up trade. Post McGinty, this place lost all the local characters and a stale, slightly desperate atmosphere made it increasingly dull. My decision to totally give up alcohol was taken here one Saturday night. I don't miss the place, but Ido miss the people who once made it so good.

This was never the greatest pub but it was also never the worst. It was fine for a lunchtime drink. Since the REFURB it seems to have stopped doing food and now seems to cater for Redhill residents with nothing better to do, I just can't find much to recommend it as there's much better pubs within easy walking distance. Oh all right one thing to recommend it the bar maid is very easy on the eye and the staff seemed friendly enough. Just for that I'd recommend it over the Abbot

I posted a comment to scooterroy, but thought I would also post here. Anyone else have any stories about the old "Crock's Courage" and Mick McGinty? As I told scooter, I worked for Mick and his wife Sarah in 1989-1990. I tended bar with Mel and Mary. Mick was such a great guy to work for. The place would rock on a Saturday night. Mick sang to me before I left. Does anyone know what ever happened to Sarah and the kids (Jimmy and ?). Nice people. A friend of mine sent me Mick's obituary. Too bad. Heart of Gold that man had. Visited the "Dog and Duck" in 2003. Lost it's charm. Might as well have been in a so called, "pub" in the U.S. Maybe things have changed since then. I'm not sure how long the new owner had had the place when I was there. Any stories or info. would be appreciated. Have a good one! Zeegs

Good pub to watch football in, with big screen tvs. Recently been refurbished. Usualy selection of lagers available. On the whole its an alright pub, mainly locals, regulars & one to head for if you dont want to be surrounded by a majority of 18 year olds on a saturday night, or going for a drink with mates in the week.
Seems like its quite a scruffy pub, not a young persons place on the whole. Though it seems alright for a quick drink and watching footy
Did I say Mick McGinty turned up to his wedding on an elephant! as before a mental man but kind and generous in my opinion
Bit of a 'mature' kind of pub. Probably not many skateboarders come here

Mick McGinty was a top bloke used to do a disco in The Bell in Reigate on a Thursday night Did a stint at, the not there anymore, Cobbles in Reigate. Then when he had Crocks (now the Dog and Duck) the place used to be heaving and as they say "the craic was good" Mick was one of the boys and missed by many 40ish pissheads. I haven't been in for a while as my shoes got stuck to the carpet last time, has it changed?
New manager in now, Matt, knows his stuff, pub will improve, tell me more about Mick McGinty!

Used to be a hole, frequented by bearded men or lager louts. They still go there, but the atmosphere is better with a more varied crowd - probably avoiding The Sun. Agree with comments about watching footy there - it gets buzzing.

The manager (Mark Walker) is excellent !!!

When this place was the dark & dingy "Office" it truely was fantastic, somewhere actualy alternative in Redhill. Sadly, since the refurbishment, alot of the character has gone. Most people in here seem to be working class, shaven headed EnGERland types, which actualy makes this a pretty good place to be when watching the world cup or your fav team (they have big screen sky sports). I saw Turkey v England in here and the place was rocking.

I worked in this pub almost for two months last winter. I lost my job because my boyfriend was one of the regular customers and we got drunk one Friday night(I had a day of). I don't think that is a good reason to sack someone. The pub is ok and I really liked the customers but the landlord, that is another story... Milja from Finland
Food's O.K, but the place hasn't the same atmosphere since Landlord Mick McGinty sadly fell (ahhhmm)down the cellar steps some years ago.
