The Dog and Duck is open - only closed for a day. It remains on the market.

I doubt if there WAS a worst pub in Surrey.
Hadn't realised it had now shut. I think it was called 'Crooks' not 'Crocks'!!

Passed by (would not dream of going in) this pub last Thursday - it was closed. Last time I was there, a fight started at about 3pm. The Mick McGinty mentioned by a previous poster met his end in this pub - then called Crocks.

Is there a worse pub in Surrey ? This place is TERRIBLE. No hygiene, poor staff and the clientele give the Surrey Mirror most of its copy. On the market again....

An absolute dump. The frequenters of this hostelry can be viewed on the street. You won't want to go in.

Looks OK from the outside, but once inside it gives the impression of being the sort of place where you expect the police to come in at any moment, find somebody to take away to 'help with their inquiries' and depart to a chorus of "f*** off you w***ers" from the charmless clientele. And so it proved to be! No real ale, but had my first pint of keg Pedigree (that was served so cold it could easily have been John Smiths or Caffreys for all the taste it had left) - not an experience I plan to repeat in the near future. Currently put up for letting by the Marston's Pub Company (as the rather large and off-putting sign on the High Street facade makes clear).

A terrific place to be in the Pete Williams / Mick McGinty days, but destroyed by inept managers and the decision to rely on Sky Sport to drum up trade. Post McGinty, this place lost all the local characters and a stale, slightly desperate atmosphere made it increasingly dull. My decision to totally give up alcohol was taken here one Saturday night. I don't miss the place, but Ido miss the people who once made it so good.

This was never the greatest pub but it was also never the worst. It was fine for a lunchtime drink. Since the REFURB it seems to have stopped doing food and now seems to cater for Redhill residents with nothing better to do, I just can't find much to recommend it as there's much better pubs within easy walking distance. Oh all right one thing to recommend it the bar maid is very easy on the eye and the staff seemed friendly enough. Just for that I'd recommend it over the Abbot

I posted a comment to scooterroy, but thought I would also post here. Anyone else have any stories about the old "Crock's Courage" and Mick McGinty? As I told scooter, I worked for Mick and his wife Sarah in 1989-1990. I tended bar with Mel and Mary. Mick was such a great guy to work for. The place would rock on a Saturday night. Mick sang to me before I left. Does anyone know what ever happened to Sarah and the kids (Jimmy and ?). Nice people. A friend of mine sent me Mick's obituary. Too bad. Heart of Gold that man had.
Visited the "Dog and Duck" in 2003. Lost it's charm. Might as well have been in a so called, "pub" in the U.S. Maybe things have changed since then. I'm not sure how long the new owner had had the place when I was there.
Any stories or info. would be appreciated.
Have a good one!

Good pub to watch football in, with big screen tvs. Recently been refurbished. Usualy selection of lagers available. On the whole its an alright pub, mainly locals, regulars & one to head for if you dont want to be surrounded by a majority of 18 year olds on a saturday night, or going for a drink with mates in the week.

Seems like its quite a scruffy pub, not a young persons place on the whole. Though it seems alright for a quick drink and watching footy

Did I say Mick McGinty turned up to his wedding on an elephant! as before a mental man but kind and generous in my opinion

Bit of a 'mature' kind of pub. Probably not many skateboarders come here

Mick McGinty was a top bloke used to do a disco in The Bell in Reigate on a Thursday night Did a stint at, the not there anymore, Cobbles in Reigate. Then when he had Crocks (now the Dog and Duck) the place used to be heaving and as they say "the craic was good" Mick was one of the boys and missed by many 40ish pissheads. I haven't been in for a while as my shoes got stuck to the carpet last time, has it changed?

New manager in now, Matt, knows his stuff, pub will improve, tell me more about Mick McGinty!

Used to be a hole, frequented by bearded men or lager louts. They still go there, but the atmosphere is better with a more varied crowd - probably avoiding The Sun. Agree with comments about watching footy there - it gets buzzing.

The manager (Mark Walker) is excellent !!!

When this place was the dark & dingy "Office" it truely was fantastic, somewhere actualy alternative in Redhill. Sadly, since the refurbishment, alot of the character has gone. Most people in here seem to be working class, shaven headed EnGERland types, which actualy makes this a pretty good place to be when watching the world cup or your fav team (they have big screen sky sports). I saw Turkey v England in here and the place was rocking.

I worked in this pub almost for two months last winter. I lost my job because my boyfriend was one of the regular customers and we got drunk one Friday night(I had a day of). I don't think that is a good reason to sack someone. The pub is ok and I really liked the customers but the landlord, that is another story...

Food's O.K, but the place hasn't the same atmosphere since Landlord Mick McGinty sadly fell (ahhhmm)down the cellar steps some years ago.
