Kings Head, Fritwell

user reviews of the Kings Head, Fritwell

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Local publicity indicated that it had closed. Although up for let, it was open today under new management. It has been pleasantly refurbished, and real ale will hopefully be available before long. Give this pub your support, as it is the only one in the village at present.

We attended the first pub quiz night last Thursday and loved it. Finally, a pub quiz in our own village.

Admittedly the questions were too easy (eg: how many sports in a triathlon) and the quiz would be much better if they were harder, but aside from this, it is the first time in a long time that the pub had a great pub feel to it, and I am sure the questions will improve with time.

The beer was lovely, the pub was nice and warm, and the four leggeds were also allowed.

The quiz will apparently become a weekly event, which is great.

Also, if you are looking up the pub's website to find any details, don't. You will probably just get the out of date website (there are apparently a few of these up on the www), which does not give the right number and doesn't provide up to date details. So it's probably best to use the details on this website to get in touch to find out about start times etc.

(I know because I spent quite a bit of last thursday day calling the wrong number, just so I could find out when the pub quiz was to start.)

Pleased to hear that the Kings Head is officially open again. Would be such a shame for Fritwell to be without a pub!!

This pub is now under new management, the lease has been taken on by a couple from a nearby village. The Kings Head has a lot of potential and has been a very successful in the past. So watch this space!

Leaseholder: Do the decent thing and sell lease to me. 5K in cash here waiting for you. What was it your last manager said to me day one here: "You will leave this pub long before I leave the Kings Head". What a muppet he was and now ripped you off?. What a suprise.

So bye bye Gregsy and apparently bye bye to the leaseholders 10 grand too !!. My Lord I could not stop laughing. Kitchen doors removed too buddy??!!. Oops. So you forgot to ever match the words at the bar with coming up and repeating them to me. What a suprise you spineless nobody. As for the people and their best wishes mmm from what I am told they are delighted to get rid of you. my offer remains open coward; get enough cider in you then come see me. Like I came to see you a few years ago. Still got the pee stains in your pants??.

BYE BYE GREGOR !!
YOU WERE SHIT AND I SAW YOU OFF.
YOU ARE A TOTAL LOSER AND I AM DELIGHTED TO SEE YOU GONE.
YOU HAVE NO HOME, NO MONEY, NO JOB.
YOU ARE TOTALLY EXPOSED AS A WASTE OF SPACE.
AND THE WORST LANDLORD IN THE HISTORY OF THE KINGS HEAD.
BYE BYE XXXXX

I have now been there twice with my walking group, and have nothing but praise for the Landlord. Nothing was too much trouble, and boht the food and service were fantastic. We wil definately be eating there again.

What is going on here? GBG listed but after making effort to find the place after a long drive from the East Midlands all I find is three hand pumps turned round and one with Black Sheep "coming soon" - I suppose it is lambing season but not an ale even in the cellar? I am sure the party in the week can't have drunk all the ale! Seemed friendly enough but not much effort in keeping the stock up to speed.

Landlord now running out of beer most nights.
How very embarrasing !!.
Can't be long till this dump has someone in charge who runs the pub with a feel for village life.
Enterprise are very disappointed with their purchase (from the area managers own mouth).
Disgusting individual with a booze problem.
Landlord still driving a car worth 50 so that should give you an idea of his success !!.
All his regulars preferring to stay at home as no beer available most nights.
Probably best to visit far better venue 100 yards away.
Stolen goods and drugtaking seems to be on the decline however.

Totally agreed with Mrknowall - sadly, the pub continues to detoriate due to the current manager's ecessive drinking. Food is carelessly made and thoughtlessly served (not sure if Gordon Ramsay could help here!!), dining room unviting, cosy bar, but small and sometimes overrun with toddlers and dogs.
But serves a good pint if that is what you are after.

A lovely old building that remains an underachieving shithole ever since the current manager and his boss took it over some years ago.The poor donut still throwing out anyone that has more personality than himself and more intelligence.Hnce the empty seats most nights. His poor lady friend takes the brunt of his excessive drinking and bitterness regarding a life of failure. Not a nice man.Deals in stolen goods to make ends meet, hence the CD sale mentioned below. And lies to his regulars regarding his status as manager preferring to bullshit he is the the leaseholder.A simple check on land registry confirms all you need to know.

A shithole
mrknowall - 2 May 2008 21:08
This one is over-hyped! The beer was dissapointing, not clear and on the turn! There seemed to be a CD sale going on at a table near the bar with each disc being sampled annoyingly loud! Very loud conversations for the number of people in there!

A relaxed and convivial pub with an attentive and sociable landlord. Good beer, generous food portions, pool and darts. An attractive restaurant -although a lot of people choose to eat in the main bar
where the action is.

Fantastic pub. Just how proper pubs should be !
Really friendly, excellent food and beer to die for.
What more can you ask for ?
Called in whilst attending a conference near to here.
Conference was rubbish but finding this pub made it all worthwhile.

Excelent country pub. Great beers 3 or 4 ales always on. Great guest programme. In The good Beer guide 2005.
Fantastic home cooked food as well!
