Visited this pub in March while in Leicester for the beer festival and it was great. Bells brewery running it and they seemed very enthusiastic about their plans. Spent ages chatting to the lady behind the bar and the Bees brewer who was also there. Enjoyed Bells Raspberry Slaughter 8.0% and Oakham JHB 3.8%. It is such a shame to hear it is closed again.

Note that the people at Bells have decided to concentrate on their other outlet The Gateway for now. Queen Vic closed again.

Bells Brewery now own this pub, looks like work is ongoing to improve this pub to its former glory! A beer festival was on when we arrived, 20+ beers all in good condition. The barstaff were friendly and helpful. I wish Bells luck in this venture and will return soon to see how they are progressing. I was told yhey have another pub in Leicester and will soon be brewing here as well.

This is also a Bells pub and will be selling guests alongside its own brews. Going to be an ongoing project to get back on its feet. Good luck to them though.

Just to confirm the Queen Victoria, 28 Southampton Street, Leicester will reopen as previously stated this Friday 13th February.

I am also advised that Bells Brewery will be taking over The Leicester Gateway, 52 Gateway Street, Leicester from Thursday 19th February in a similar way to the Queen Victoria.

I was writing belatedly, my reviews from October and what a shock to find this pub closed. OK the decor was not up to much but the festival was first rate and the staff friendly. What a shame. I had not been before but spoke to the gaffer who was enthusiastic about having more festivals.

It's a real shame that the Queen Victoria has closed. I had been in half a dozen times and really enjoyed the place and the ale. The Bogtrotter's Beer Festival appeared to be well attended and then....nothing. Finished. I popped along yesterday morning and the pub had the curtains drawn and the Pub To Let sign still up. There is a pile of dozens of casks and kegs visible in the secured backyard.

If anyone can update me on what has happened here, especially as to where our casks are from after the festival,
I would be obliged; as I am sure many other small breweries like ours would.
Ours are plated and carry 'Wibblers' on the chines if that helps; being a small micro we really can't afford this loss on casks (and content).
Thank you.

I regret to report the passing of this pub - the bailiffs have been in and the place is now boarded up.

It's a great shame - it should have been a great success, but things didn't go as one would have hoped.

The Queen is dead.

**Real ale newsflash** Thursday 17th - Sunday 20th July; Booze and Blues beer festival - thirty plus (scottish) brews and five ciders accompanied by live music... I attended their first bash and it was an amazing showing. Get bums down here and support this brilliant pub!

This is rapidly becoming my pub of choice in Leicester, both for quality of beer and range offered.

Since re-opening a few months back this excellent pub (formerly one of Leicester's less salubrious drinking holes) has gone from strength to strength, largely due to the dedication of it's management team.

Operating as effective brewery tap for the newly established Bee's brewery of Queniborough and Ales of the Unexpected (a Glastonbury subdivision) the pub guarantees five new ales every Friday, with the focus very much micro-orientated. This range is complemented by a strong Samuel Smiths showing - Old Brewery Bitter, Lager, Cider Reserve and Wheat Beer - ensuring that there really is something for most tastes.

The recent beer & sausage festival proved a roaring success, attracting a strong showing from both local ale fans and the serious ticking community - hopefully an indicator of things to come.

The one area the new management do need to keep an eye on is the clientele; due to its location and the reluctance of certain undesirable elements to give up "their" local it would be very easy for this place to find itself lumbered with a lot of the less salubrious drinkers, who in turn are a major deterrent to those of us who want a good pint of Real Ale and no attitude.

Hopefully once the ongoing process of refurbishment has been completed and the interior has a face-lift this will go some way towards deterring this particular element.

Nevertheless, if the management remain committed to quality in terms of both selection and condition, and continue to adopt a sensible approach I see no reason why this pub should not achieve its full potential.

Ideally situated near the train station and the new "Curve" theatre when it opens in Sept (for pre and post theatre drinks!) Large traditional style pub. I hadn't been here for over ten years, so decided to revisit recently. The place was busy, so word appears to have got around about the new ownership. Lots of choice of ales plus Samuel Smiths lager and draught cider.

Now this is developing into a little gem. Five new beers every Friday, all from micros, many from disparate regions. All beers excellently kept. Tasters available. Will be numerous fests and as it's only two minutes from the station is actually a good stop off. It will be revamped and the outside has a lick of paint already. The LL is looking to get hold of FH I think.
Keep visiting, it is only if it is used that It will become the venue I know it can be

Does Leicester need another real ale pub? Well, yes... This place will hopefully make other venues in the city clean up their act (literally) and raise their game beer condition wise. I had the pleasure of spending most of Thursday and Friday in this pub to experience their first ale (and sausage!) festival.. Considering the amount of time the've been up and running they certainly did not disappoint! ten new ales for those of us inclined to tick; new breweries well represented and a serious sausage menu of copious portions for minimal charge to compliment. My companion and I were made to feel so very welcome and at home. An absolute must if you plan to hit the city anytime soon as it can only go from strength to strength under current management... Also, on plus side- five minute walk from the train station!
TerrysJessica - 19 Apr 2008 19:29
New owners, up to 7 real ales and 2 a pint a weekends (at time of posting)
