user reviews of the Two Brewers, Northaw

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Pleasantly refurbished but still retains a lot of its character. The small "public bar" area at the eastern end has been retained together with the dartboard. Three real ales were on offer - Bombardier, Eagle IPA and Wadworths 6X. Both the Bombardier and the Eagle were in excellent condition and a round consisting of one of each came to £7.50 which is fairly standard locally. This pub is preferable to the over-priced Sun just up the road. It still feels like a pub (although the food smelled good) rather than a restaurant. Recommended.

I visited twice in April 2014 to eat. The interior has recently been refurbished and it has a modern air. There was a good selection of beers and a few guest ales too when I visited.

The staff on duty were very friendly but young and lacking experience.

The food is satisfactory, the dishes are well executed and presented and generously portioned so are good value for money, if your looking for a Pub Meal and are considering other local options such as Harvester or any of the McMullen pubs in the area then The Brewers is on a par. However the food does not match sophistication of The Sun, also in Northaw, but neither does the price.

I will be returning.

Went here again today and again not dissapointed, my other half had the roast chicken dinner and I tried the salt beef sandwich which was absolutely spot on and as good as I have ever had, washed down with a couple of beers. As usual the staff were very obliging and polite. Being a retired publican myself I would highly recommend this pub.

A Charles Wells pub so some of that groups ales (I think three real ales). Food deserves a mention, a varied menu and clearly home prepared. Had traditional pie mash and liquor, very authentic and just what you'd expect from proper london pie & mash shop :)

Very nice and well run pub in a lovely peaceful location with very friendly staff and a good selection of beers. The food also deserves special mention with an excellent menu catering for almost every ones tastes and is reasonably priced.
I use this pub on quite a regular basis and is worth the 15 mile journey from London and Christine (the landlady) always makes you very welcome.

This pub is barely ok. Came on a Saturday night (admittedly Easter weekend) and there were only a few foul mouthed locals and cheap looking furnishings. Had the Adnams which was nice but couldnt wait to leave. Didnt see the garden.

Nice pub, nice staff, go there. Large open fire, the barmaid gave us a load of old beermats to feed the fire with, "just don't let it go out!" she said. Good food too.

I love it when you take a week off work but have no particular place to go. Mainly because if the sun comes out, you can drop what you were doing and head out for a lunchtime pint. It did, and so did I, to Northaw to see if the Two Brewers is still as good as it was when I was a regular visitor a few years ago.
And I am pleased to report that it is still a very solid picturesque village pub. Its whitewashed front is very welcoming and even at this early stage of the growing season was well festooned with hanging baskets and window boxes. There are seating benches out front and as mentioned by the previous poster, a very spacious split level sun trap of a garden out back which has a great view of the village church.
But it is inside where this pub really scores. It is divided into four distinct areas divided by period wooden beams, each with its own section of the bar. This gives plenty of room for groups to stand and socialise over a beer. And for those interested in dining there is a purpose built conservatory restaurant added the far left.
The beers were Adnams Bitter Marstons Pedigree and GK IPA. Tried both the Adnams and the IPA and they were well kept. So in conclusion, still a top class pub, well recommend for a drive out for a pint in the Hertfordshire countryside

Nice place - good atmosphere. Lots of little alcoves and varied seating. Something for everyone. Conservatory restaurant serves good, reasonably priced food. You have to see the "Interesting Garden" really nice suntrap. Worth a visit.
