THIS IS THE BEST PUB IN THE WORLD AND THE STONE ROSES ARE THE BEST BAND EVER. WE NEED A STONE ROSES BAR IN MANCHESTER!

The place is full of people with bad attitudes so its quite ironic considering its name. Ok if you want to pretend to be ian brown and pay 3 quid for an alcopop.

I like the music in here, but a bit steep price wise. As has previously been mentioned, it's a Thwaites house which are not commonplace in York; so it does have a small following of dedicated locals, along with the Indy kids.

Interesting music venue. Piped music can be very loud (my twenty year old son and his mates have stopped going there because they cannot here themselves think). Me, I don't want to think or talk when listening to a band, and this can be very relaxing - nice mezzanine above the band area.

Decent venue not at all what you expect from teh outside - being a big early-mid ninties indie fan in my late teens just had to visit even though just notched up my 30th - service ok - there was a band setting up but others in the party wanted to move on - beer wise nothing special but standard fair and what i would think a good night out if it's your bag.

A nice enough bar, obviously themed at an indie / ninties bands idea. Often puts on live music, and band evenings so pretty good. Is also a thwaites house, so beer is fairly good.
However, it can end up a bit takcy + sticky on a busy evening, piped music far too loud, (very) young crowd looking super indie, and waiting on the door.
Has a late license.

Found this pub around 3pm sunday afternoon, and i'm sure on a weekday night or weekend evening its bouncing, but sunday afternoon was terrible. No one in till we five arrived and the bar maid was playing on the machines we had to ask to get served. Beer Thwaites Bitter was like water and who says in cheap 2.50 a pint, I will not return. Like the decor, Americanised, like the football game and plush seats but not my scene. Sorry

Great idea for a bar, but the people who run it have no idea, can't see them hanging on to it much longer, either the brewery or the police will relieve the current management of their license. Shame as it has much potential.

What used to be the grapes if i understand correctly. has a late license and isnt too bad at all which is a welcome addition to york's otherwise ashematic afterhours scene.

plays music you would expect from the name. loudly. interior is a bit weak, i assume its just like it used to be with a few new posters thrown up.
