A Friday evening visit to this homely local after a couple of beers in the Oddfellows.

3 ales on, Robinsons Trooper wasn't the best but it was drinkable, I didn't try the Doombar but the Bombardier Burning Gold was very good, several pints of this was sunk later in the evening while playing pool.

The pub is carpeted and has artex walls and some faux wooden beams. Up a few steps towards the back garden and car park is another seating area that had diners in on this visit. At the back of the pub is a huge very well appointed beer garden. Loads of seating & room for the kids to run around in, there’s also slides and swings etc. This garden leads onto the cliff walkway.

Back inside the pub tucked away around from the bar is a Pool table, dart board & fruit machine.

This was the pub we spent the most time in on the Friday night and I can honestly say it’s very good. Bar staff and punters all very friendly.

I used to think that this was the best pub in the world.
I 'drank' there for over 20years until the new Asian Bar Manager decided to tell customers that I was was a 'shirt lifter' a*se bandit (gay) so I don't go there any more for fear of getting arrested for punching a halfwitted personalityless fecker's lights out...

What more can I say...? Don't go there if you have an oversion to tw**s

This was my experience...

A pretty decent pub overall without being "a must". The beer choice is nothing to write home about. But was in good condition. Personally didn't like the look of the conservatory restaurant. "Traditionally" low ceiling bar area. Garden quite big and views of the sea about 50 metres away. Worth a visit if in locality though for me The Ship Inn is better.

Nice enough Pub, pity the locals sit all round the bar then look annoyed if you work your way between them to get served.

I recently had lunch there, good menue, good setting, but it was spoilt by the pub's two black cats who were sunbathing in the restaurant. Despite being ejected twice one ended up washing it's backside in the middle of one of the tables!

This is a very nice old pub full of locals as it should be. It has a great atmosphere of the traditional English local pub. There are 3 real ales, Adnams Broadside, Abbott and I forgot what the other one was. All were very tasty and well kept. The locals in the pub are friendly and like to banter with the bar man Sid (I think his name was).

I didn't have any food but my parents inform me it is very good and they do the traditional things you want like liver and bacon!!

My most memorable part of the visit was when I was at the bar getting my beers and a local banged on the bar so the bar man stuck his head round and said 'alright I'll be there in a minute!'. I love that sort of thing.

Oh and dogs are most welcome so don't be suprised if you trip over a few. This is probably one of the best examples of a traditional English pub so you must visit it.

Still a great little pub, even though I keep getting tha name wrong... The Crab and Spatula, The Toothpick and Spaniel, The Bin Liner and Sarcasm. Cosy little bar with a low ceiling and really inviting in winter. Good food and a friendly atmosphere make this place a must, even if it is a bit off the beaten track. Very popular with locals and there can be few better pleasures than to sit in their extensive beer garden on a sunny winter afternoon with a chilled pint of stella. The gents toilets need some attention and HEATING!

I love this pub and can't reccommend it highly enough just for the fact that on a chilly, mid~winter day you can sit outside in the garden and soak up the bleak beauty of this part of the coastline as well as a decent pint ...

What more could you want?

But if you prefer your creature comforts, there's an open fire in the bar as well.

Fantastic character boozer - been coming for 20 years or more on family holidays. Bar a bit smoky but friendly staff and good atmosphere. Food looks Ok but there's a great chippy just around the corner...

Supposedly the oldest pub in Lowestoft - very characterful, helpful staff, and a good selection of real ale
