This long established 16th century inn has recently been tastefully renovated and taken over by new mine hosts, Andy and Linda Skinner.
This is a very friendly and welcoming local inn that serves both fine ales and superb, mainly English, food. Well behaved children and dogs are also welcome!
Harvey's Sussex Best Bitter and Abbot Ale are the two well kept real ales, also available on tap are Guinness, lager beers and cider.
Andy is the amiable mine host, normally serving behind the bar, while Linda runs the kitchen, producing the same high standard of food that this pub has been renowned for for many years, hardly surprising as Linda has worked and cooked in the kitchen for several years now.
One of the delights of the menu is that one never knows what is available until a blackboard is brought out just before serving time, the reason for this is that the fish and meat are usually bought daily from local sources and are subject to availability.
The menu will have one or two "catch of the day" fish dishes plus, if you are lucky, a superb home made steak and kidney pie served with fresh vegetables. Other dishes are always available.
The pub opening hours are from 1100 to 2200 Monday to Thursday, 1100 to 2300 Friday and Saturday and 1200 to 2200 Sunday.
Food is served from 1200 to 1400 Monday to Saturday and 1800 to 2000 Tuesday to Saturday while Sunday lunchtime is 1200 to 1430 (no food is served on Sunday and Monday evenings).
Booking is recommended for both lunch and dinner on 01323 764970 (please note that there are steps down into the bar and dining area from all entrances, therefore it is not wheelchair accessible).
A separate room, just off the main bar, is available for parties of up to 30 people.
Credit/Debit cards are accepted.
The Castle Inn has a large car park and garden.
Free WIFI is available.
When TV is on, normally during sporting events, it is never too loud. Background music is also played and there are occasional guest performers.

Friendly traditional local with a loyal band of regulars. Nice pint of London Pride and the food was brill!!! Wondered why it took so long to come until we figured out that the regulars had put in their orders well before twelve (knowledge is power as they say). Definitely going back because I want to take on the all day breakfast!

Nice pub, but wastes its potential to be a friendly local.

On my last visit, the Brummie bar man chose to launch a racist rant behind the bar! Won't rush back...

Carry on to Eastbourne you miss anything. Pub stuck in a time warp. Beer was drinkable but on a wet and windy Tuesday evening I was happier to outside than inside. Dearest pub by far in the village.

In this pub for the first time at lunchtime on Christmas day. Superb pint of Abbott Ale, but not too cheap at �2.70. Low ceilinged, wooden beamed, real coal fire, quick service even when busy. The regulars even moved aside when I needed to get to the bar. Must be the season of goodwill or something like that, even to non-regulars! I liked this pub and would recommend it on the basis of one visit. But I well understand that it might be a different place at times other than Christmas day. But it did not look like a young person's pub, and other reviews are generally positive.

About half a mile or so along the main Eastbourne road, this two-storey, L-shaped building dates from the 16th century and was converted into an Inn from cottages. The outside is painted in cream and green: the inside is comfortable with low, black-beamed ceilings and pale yellow plaster walls. A television tuned to Sky Sports somewhat disrupts the otherwise traditional ambience. The clientele this Saturday late afternoon are mostly regulars, middle aged or older. The Castle Inn was GBG listed in 1990 and 1992. It is now owned by Pubmaster and dispenses Greene King IPA and Abbot. My half of Abbot (I�m obviously not going to have an IPA) costs �1.28 and tastes fine. (Autumn 2004)

a friendly boozer serving a decent pint of nelson.Run by a decent landlord from sarf london who follows chelsea. I use it when im on my hols in costa del pev. A bit quiet for choice but suits me.
