The building was demolished and replaced by a terrace of houses.

I have not been here in 2 years since the Irish woman was running it. The food then was alright at first and then went down hill. Having driven past most weeks, i noticed a sign saying Under New Management. I though i would give it another chance. Don't bother driving there, the car park was dirty and a hazard with junk strewn all around. I should have realised that first impressions really do count. It was wall to wall with blue and purple rinses inside. The interior was exactly the same as 2 years ago and still nicotine stained. There was even the same sofa in the alcove. They have closed the dining area off so you can only eat in the bar area. They have moved the hotplate in next to the bar. The food was dried up and over cooked. No wonder the only clientele were O.A.Ps. They have no taste buds left. The cauliflower cheese was a mush which obviously helps people with false teeth. The beef was the cheap cut that the previous people started to sell. The man serving the meat also served the roast potatoes. I was given only 4 small roast potatoes. What sort of carvery is this?(7.95) I wanted a pint of London Pride, they ran out as it was being poured. The barrel was changed and i was then served a pint with 10% cleaning fluid. Another customer didn't even get that and walked out after realising how poor the meals were. The man serving the food snatch the plate and said he would not see them in there again. They left their meals and drinks without paying. Our desserts were definitely not home made and were over priced for what can only be described as child portions for 3.75! The service is terrible along with the food. Maybe one day i will return with my parents again to see if it improves. Though i doubt it.

Absolutley unbelievable! Having experienced the ineptitute of previous landlords, I can honestley say that the Woodcock is unrecognisable from the sad and grotty establishment it was just 12 month ago. Chris and Vanessa have transformed this once awful hole into a friendly, family orientated pub and restaurant. Having spent the majority of last year sifting through, and ejecting the trash from it's doors, Chris and Vanessa now have themselves a pub really worth visiting. Having tried most of the eating establishments in the Haslemere area, I can honestly say the food served here is the best around. The produce is local and fresh and the skill shown in the kitchen is reflected in the rave reviews received in the good food and drink guide.
I heartily recomend this friendly and pleasant country pub as a rewarding treat for families and walkers alike.

I have a feeling that the person two below is refering to your selling of non branded products in the effort to make a cheap buck... Try asking for a Vodka/Red Bull.. And see what thick, sickly and not very nice can of drink you get with your drink... Certainly not Red Bull. And if you are trying to encourage a local friendly enviroment to relax in then why encourage the gangs of youths you currently have as clients. Rather than the local, slightly older clients that you are turning away... I would hazard a guess they have a slightly higher disposable income to spend with you and make your business more proffitable!

As the Landlord of The Woodcock, I have requested that the comment below be removed as it implies that we are breaking trading standard rules by selling knock off labels as top brands, which we DO NOT do. We are a local couple trying to make a business by providing quality food and a freindly atmosphere to relax in. We have a review coming out in the Surrey Good Food & Drink Guide in November.

This pub is dreadful. It will never be the centre of life in Beacon Hill only a place to go to when all else fails.
The beer is not very well kept and they do not sell real versions of certain famous drinks only weird rip-off labels. But still charge you the same !!
You can judge a place by the regulars and in this case the regulars are not of the highest quality but then again that fits in with the feeling here overall.
Avoid.Avoid.Avoid

Chris and Vanessa are doing a good job of building up this pub from years of it mediocrity and isolation from the community.
Chris is an accomplished chef with a good record in hotels and food oriented pubs elsewhere, Vanessa is an excellent front of house personality.
Together they are working at bringing this pub back into the centre of the community. Great welcome, good food, good drinks, what more can you ask of a local?

As of the 4th March 2008, Chris and Vanessa took over the Woodcock with the aim to supply Good food, Good Beer and a gnerally nice place to visit.. 3 months later, the place is starting to see a steady rise in both meals, and drinking trade. There are 3 different Ales a week on offer as well as bottled and draft beers. And with help from customers, an ever growing wine list. Also, with the addition of the fencing on the front patio, it is now considered very safe for both families and dog walkers. New decoration through out is due to happen soon.... Please try us soon ...

Dropped in Friday lunchtime. Place has a lot of potential character. Two good size bars, one with pool table, other more geared to eating. Got the impression that the bar lady was not a regular and have heard that this place may be changing hands again soon. That being said, friendly staff - reasonable basic snack. Dead quiet though for Friday lunchtime. There for an hour and only two other people turned up! Perhaps busier in the evening.

New landlords big on promise but woefully short on delivery. You can still wait 10 mins before anyone acknowledges your request for a drink. I heard of lots of people leaving cos they had waited over an hour for their food. What sort of place has a Steak Night and then confesses that they only got 3 steak knives - sums it up really ! Wish the new guys luck , and attitude is clearly an improvement on the old regime, but they need to get basics in place.

Great News I was worrried before visiting yesterday having read the reviews here. But i can happily report that a new landlord has taken over together with a new Chef. Both seem enthusiastic and have great plans for the place, judging by the great new menu friendly service and relativly smoke free atmosphere (aided by non smoking areas and plentiful air filters)I would say this pub is definatly on the up.the Swing Low was well Kept and sparkling tothe eye and the food was superb. with ample car parking to the rear of the pub I for one will Definatly be back often

This is a case of a pub that was very indifferently renovated a few years ago, probalby to make it have the feel of a London suburb pub. There is a very large area to the left as you walk in, and a room to the right, dominated by an all-pervading large TV screen. The large area was notable by its emptiness, and yet its overriding smell of cigarettes - indeed, it was actually quite unpleasant. The beer is nothing special, served, I suspect, under blanket pressure, which keeps the beer stable over a longer period, but does little for its flavour. The success of the food was demonstrated by the fact that no-one was eating any - it seemed quite expensive for what it was. There is a patio area at the front, overlooking a busy main road - this is the area that was best occupied. I did not have the feeling that many locals use the pub, but mostly those who come upon it by chance. It could be very good, but must do better in almost every aspect.

I am confused by Mightyhawk - having been in this pub on a Thursday night to find it completely empty!

Despite being almost empty we left stinking of smoke and quite cold.

Nice pint of HSB, but that is all that can be said of the place in my opinion.

Don't know who A_Local_Lad is but is talking absolute garbage - Great Pub, the staff and the landlord and landlady are fabulous and the food is terrific - especially the sunday Roasts. Most locals DONT avoid it like the plague, actually we mostly drink in here!

Could have been a nice local pub - in fact I'm told it was a long time ago. Now very insular with no atmospere and surly 'when I'm good and ready and not before' service.

Its split into two sides - locals side with pool table, duke box etc on one side, public bar with 'Restaurant/food' on the other (loosley termed).

Most locals avoid it like the plague, those who do go there probably never venture further than the village limits anyway....

Shame, best avoided.
