Now a Thai restaurant under new ownership. Seems to be getting good reviews elsewhere.

Made first-time visit to the Harrow on Sunday lunchtime along with others from a walking group. Extremely impressed with the quality and generous quantities of food on offer, at very reasonable prices too. Around our table this included, from a varied menu, huge portions of ploughman's, ham egg & chips, roast pork & trimmings, fish & chips and salmon & crayfish salad. Service was friendly and attentive. The beer selection of Tribute, Doombar and T.E.A. seems to be standard for the pub but the several pints of Tribute I had were exemplary.

Paid visits here a few times in the past when my recollection was that it was a bit snobby, but not been for a few years. Seems a lot better now, food and service was excellent and not outrageously priced (mains around the £10 mark, afters £5.50. Beer as already mentioned seems to be the staples of TEA, Tribute and Doom Bar, so nothing desperately unusual in that respect.

Visited on the Saturday afternoon before last. The Withies down the road was inexplicably shut on probably the hottest Saturday of the year! Anyway a dozen or so of us settled in the patio area round the back and quaffed a few beers. They had Tribute and Hog's Back TEA on and the Tribute was fine, if not as exceptional as it can be when perfectly fresh. The bar was a bit pokey without much elbow room but service was pretty good. Nothing special really was my takeaway...

It has to be said that this place has changed hands a few times & that it has something of a 'chequered' past. That said, the current incumbents are doing a fantastic job in our opinion.
My wife, young son & I visited not long before Christmas 2011 on a Saturday lunchtime and it was great to find the pub bustling but not crowded. Food was good, as was the beer & we were made to feel most welcome.
I live quite close by and drive past the Harrow everyday & am aware that a recent refurbishment (finished last week by the looks of things) has been completed so we'll definitely be going back to check it out.
I am unconnected with the owners & tenants of the pub - I'm just glad to see it thriving once more.

My wife and I ate at the Harrow Inn on 23rd January 2012. Before and during eating we drank tea. The bill for the pot of tea (which was topped up with hot water at our request using the same 2 tea bags) was over 8.00. The food wan't up to much either. We tipped the waitress 10% but will never visit again and will recommended it to no-one.

We have eaten at this pub twice recently, once at lunch time and once in the evening. Lunch time was very busy, the evening less so. The manager and staff were friendly and attentive, the food arrived in good time and the quality was good. Prices were reasonable. A completely different experience from the previous ownership.

We booked a table for 6 at the Harrow on Fathers Day and as a result of that, visited again more recently and I have only good things to say. The food was excellent on all occasions and really good value for money. The service was also really good and all the staff extremly welcoming. Even turning up with babies in buggies doesnt put them off! I would (and have) recommended this pub to friends and living very nearby will certainly visit many more times. Keep up the good work!

The Harrow re-opened under new management on Thursday 14th April. The new owners are Ian & Jenny Readman who also run the highly succesful Crofton Pub on the South Coast of Hampshire.

Ian and Jenny have been publicans since 1987 when they were trainees at the Cocked Hat pub in Gosport. They then had spells in pubs in Newbury, Hampton Court and Worthing. In 1991 they successfully managed the Osborne View at Hill Head where they stayed for 9 years before returning to Hampton Court as tenants.

They returned to the South Coast and took over the lease of the Crofton pub in 2003. The then mayor, Councillor Arthur Mandry, told us It is nice to have responsible publicans who know what they are doing.

Ian and Jennys main interests are golf and raising money for charities.

Sue Mowle who has been working for them since 1991 has relocated to The Harrow to manage the pub along with their experienced Head Chef Lee Barker.
They are proud to have been in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for many years now and hope to replicate this at The Harrow.

They look forward to welcoming you to sample the new Harrow with its exciting new menu and extensive range of drinks

We live in the village and have tried a number of times to give this pub a chance after changing ownership.

The bar staff are fairly friendly but not particularly attentive. The chef however should be fired. We have eaten there twice and come away both times with food poisoning. I was ill after eating sausage and mash on the first visit and my husband was violently ill after eating fish and chips on our next visit.

The pub is just not busy enough for the food to stay fresh. Even the wine sits opened on the shelf for weeks on end and then tastes like vinegar.

We will not be going back and strongly recommend that you avoid the food at all costs.

A goup of 25 of us pre-booked and had a great evening, delicious food and extremely friendly service. I would go back and sense that this pub under new ownership will get better and better. Great Banoffi Eton mess if you have a sweet tooth!

i went to the harrow on friday with my two children in the evening we were greetede by a lovely young man. i ordered my drinks at the bar and sat down i was brought a menu as the waiter told me there was a slight wait because of a busy spell of a table of 9 i didn't mind, it was understandable. my food arrived and it was nice to look at and tasted wonderful. my children were happy with what they ate. the bill was very reasonable. as i was leaving the pub was quite busy. i will definatly be rerturning!

I have worked at this pub for three months now and we are all trying hard to turn around it's previous reputation, there have been many changes made and more are yet to come as we don't yet have everything the way we would like it but we will get it right and are fully commited. We are not a fast food establishment yet our turn around on food orders considering we cook from fresh is very quick indeed, and whilst some of our staff are young they are learning very quickly and i would not be wasting any time here if i did not believe in the pub and it's other staff. I have worked at only five other establishments but this is the most commited one (to customers and staff) i've seen and i want to be part of it.

We revisited The Harrow after a year to give it another chance. The new sign outside offered fine wines, there was no wine list only red or white, which turned out to be the Pinot on offer at Sainsbury's at 3 for 10. The food was as before was about OK but the attitude of the staff and the service were terrible. No one seems to care. The lack of other diners on a Friday suggests the word has got around that it is truly awful. Can someone rescue a pub in a lovely setting that deserves better.

I dropped into this pub for a light lunch at the end of an August Wednesday hike with a small group and we had an experience similar to that expressed below. Staff were young, inexperienced, and I'd say 'dazed' and indifferent rather than unfriendly. Not particularly busy. No sign of a manager? They insisted on taking food and drink orders at the tables, but after some wait we went and ordered drinks at the bar. Again, seated, we waited some 20 mins for someone to take our food order, but were offered potato wedges in the meantime, over which there was confusion as to whether they were complimentary or not. Having tentatively eaten some (hungry), news then emerged that the wedges were 6 a plate! Having waited some 40 mins by now we decided to forget further food, get the bill and go. The bill charged us a 10% SERVICE CHARGE, which we "assumed optional", paid the balance, and left dismayed and disappointed.
Note. The quality of the food looked good (we didn't get to try it other than the wedges) and the real ale was well kept, but the service/protocol lets this place down. The young staff are trying but they seem under-staffed, untrained, unsupported, dazed and indifferent.

Super looking menu and drove quite a way to get there for sunday lunch. Might as well not have bothered. Can't order drinks at the bar, have to wait for the staff to have the spare time to come and take your order. Sat fo 5 minures wiating for that. Asked for menus, another wait. We had decided what to eat, and were still waiting for our order to be taken, but when we asked to place an order were told we would have to wait because a table of diners (who arrived after we had) had "booked". We were not the only people in there who tried to order food and failed. Paid for the drinks and left. Most unwelcoming pub I have ever had the misfortune to find.

Roger0803 this was always a `Punch Pub Co.` pub has this changed.
We agree with all your other comments not been back for quite a while because of the unfriendly staff.
ThePilgrim - 5 Aug 2010 11:18
Parked here on a lovely sunny day to walk our dogs and then have a pub lunch with my family. We were the only people in the carpark and the staff were having their breakfast in the garden. As we set off from the carpark we got a very sarcastic comment from the barmaid regarding the signs that said non patrons of the pub would be clamped. A most unfriendly pub and barmaid. We decided to turn around and take our business elsewhere.

The pub with no beer!!!
Went to this "pub" on a hot Sunday evening. Asked for a pint of bitter, only to be told that they had sold out. Reluctantly decided upon a pint of Fosters. Surprise surprise. They had sold out. Asked the barman to tell us what, if anything, they did have. Was served a pint of Stella and told that there was not much of that left. The Enterprise Inns ordering system was blamed for lack of beer.
Sat outside. Went back inside to get some crisps and the pub was deserted. Got served after five minutes. Barman was outside talking to friends. Had to go and get him.
This used to be a lovely pub and could be again. Needs new management and a decision on whether it is a pub or a restaurant (for teetotallers).

Don't be taken in by the signs all over the place saying 'food all day' - it isn't. We popped in on saturday about 4 specifically because of this.

Beer was flat and unexceptional, the barmaid was unfriendly - more tha happy to talk to a friend rather than serve customers and didn't mention that food wasn't being served until she had poured our drinks. In addition we couldn't get to the toilets because a group of small noisy children were lying on the floor across the bar blocking access. Needless to say the parents didn't think to ask them to move.

Good to see The Harrow thriving... It was packed on a Saturday lunchtime, with pretty much all the tables occupied inside and plenty sitting outside too. But the staff kept the food coming. The giant doorstep sandwiches went down a treat with our posse of hungry hikers. All washed down with a nice pint of TEA.

Took a group of walkers here today for lunch. Grabbed only unreserved table and had an excellent lunch; beautiful roasts, and one of us had the best liver she had ever tasted. Food was not cheap- about 15 for a roast dinner- but nicely presented and perfectly cooked. Service was calm and pleasant, but not exactly enthusiatic. This pub certainly deseves a higher rating now (under new ownership for 3 months) than the average rating suggests.
ajdm48 - 11 Jan 2009 20:46
we visited there on a busy sunny Sunday. They have a limited menu but lots to choose from. The roasts were superb, lovely 'real'meal, vegetables not overdone and the whole thing was not swimming in gravy.
I had monkfish which was lovely too as were the crumble desserts.
Great friendly service.
Would go again and think that it has improved since your last reviewer was there
wandawoo - 23 Sep 2008 12:21
Nice looking pub inside but we felt the food was not good for the very high price.

The fish batter was soggy
The lasagne was tiny, reheated so badly that the pasta was crunchy on the edges and the sause was almost dry.
They need to review their version of what a salad is too!!
Also the menu says the the service charge is not included but it is...beware.

a poor experience.

I have had several meals at the Harrow Inn and have enjoyed excellent food and friendly service. The menu seems to focus on local and season produce wherever possible. The presentation of the food is always inspired. We keep going back again and again. Better than many other pubs and restaurants in the area.

I have had several meals at the Withies and have enjoyed excellent food and friendly service. The menu seems to focus on local and season produce wherever possible. The presentation of the food is always inspired. We keep going back again and again. Better than many other pubs and restaurants in the area.

This pub has always been known as the poor mans Withies the food here is not a patch on pubs in nearby villages so i would just keep on driving but miss out Puttenham.
ThePilgrim - 8 Jan 2008 17:04
A smarmy welcome at this pub got us off to a bad start when we visited today. If you want a 'gastro' pub then this is for you although I'm not sure whether the pub is suffering from an identity crisis note: a large tv screen, a bhudda, far eastern sculptures, pictures of boxers along with high quality paper napkins and large square plates. Not a pub I would return to by choice as the BAR food was over-priced and not particularly appetizing. Can't comment on the RESTAURANT food - maybe that's better?
TrulyScrumptious - 3 Jan 2008 20:45
Have eaten here several times now and find the food to be the best in the area, good quality, good price and good service, without the typical pub stench of cooking oil.
Highly recommended

Well they made a mess of The Red Lion Godalming lets see if they do the same here!!!!!
I dont expect to see this comment to last on here long either Biker.

Good food and a nice place - agreed overshadowed by The Withies down the road but still good on its own merit.

Harrowmans ploughmans excellent !
