excellent range of beer - all GK regulars plus seasonals and guests. Well kept and happy to offer tasters

Recently refurbished town centre pub that does food. They have a glass floor in the bar so you can see down in the cellar. Might be OK as long as you don't suffer from vertigo! It's a very pleasant pub with an extensive range of Greene King beers and one guest ale on when I called in on a Wednesday lunchtime. It was quite busy, a combination of drinkers and diners. They have an outdoor drinking area as well. I got served quickly on both occasions I went to buy a drink. I would certainly call in here again if in the area.

Decent town pub with a well kept pint of Golden Hen - menu looked very good although didn't try

A nice traditional, relaxed pub with an a pleasant beer garden. The food is reasonable if you stay at the pub end of the scale - the more ambitious dishes are invariably disappointing.

Hmm. Don't know which toolster to believe(!) Great pub, very democratic, lovely beer garden, friendly staff - once they get to know you. The food (which finishes early) is excellent, with prices and - arguably - atmosphere better than the Old Cannon.

RUDE-Jesus,I have never met a landlord/landlady who have such utter contempt for their own customers.
I look fairly average, but anyone would've thought I'd walked in naked when a got that once-over from the landlord as i walked in.
perhaps its just the way the bloke is,but I sensed a definite frosty vibe, and I'm not alone.
Try the Old Canon Brewery if you seek this variety of pub.Better food, ales, service and prices.
If you don't believe me,ckeck-out the reviews on here.

Yes,good food.good beer.Cross section of ages seek this place for quiet chat with mates or a decent pub meal.
Slightly snooty Landlord/Lady who assume you're lying when you point-out you've been given incorrect change.
Very nice beer garden though.
Worth a look overall for early pint or a meal.A 'safe' bet.

I always call into The Masons for a few pints of ale when in Bury St Edmunds it has a friendly atmosphere, chatty attractive staff ;-) and good booze. A great place to relax.

A recent menu overhaul now makes this excellent off-town centre boozer even more of an attraction. Food is good and reasonably priced - and staff are first-class.

Terrific choice of tasty food, so quite popular, even on a wet Tuesday evening! Pleasant garden area. Friendly staff and diners. Beer seemed well-kept.

GK again so don't be expecting a great pint. Having said that, the Abbot Reserve at 6.5% on draft wasn't too shabby......but it still tastes like GK.

had a great sandwich at the bar on a Saturday lunchtime, very busy for food.

Friendly landlady and staff.

Very tasty lunches, reasonably priced (about 7 for a main course) which come promptly. Good freshly-prepared veg, too. A couple of real ales usually on the pump, in good nick. Worth a visit for a quiet meal, but handy for the market place.

Good beer, no TV, fine pub food. A great spot to have lunch just off the main beat of the town centre. Quiz night Tuesdays and karaoke Thursdays.
