I don't know if the pub has recently changes hands but I have always thought the food was of a great standard for a pub, slightly pricey but there you go.

however our last trip for a quick sandwich was a bit of a disaster. I ordered a sausage and onion baguette which comes with a pot of gravy and salad and nacho chips. Well they said it came with nacho cips but I failed to see any. garnish was some lettuce with no dressing and the hottest thing about it was the grvy. Baguette was luke warm and the sausage about the same the "fried" onions were freezing cold and i mean out of the fridge freezing cold. My Partners Bacon and Brie baguette was the same; luke warn ore-cooked bacon and no melting on the cheese at all.

for the privilege of getting crap food and missing food we paid £12 excluding drinks! I don;t know what the pubs in Brockenhurst itself are like these days but I'd give them a shot before coming here again. such a shame....

This pub is great both in the winter and summer. It is really cosy (watch out if you are tall because the ceilings are really low) and in the summer there's a great garden to sit in.
Have been here on a few occasions. Mostly just to have a couple of drinks in the evening, in which case it was a nice place to talk to friends, busy but not too loud. On the other I went for food. It was a bit more expensive than your average pub meal but the food was varied and really enjoyable.
They serve up a huge range of beers and I enjoyed going here.

been here a few times now.one visit was on a fri eve with friends.i hate starters that are too big, they should just be a taster, here they are huge.i had whitebait{cant really get that wrong} but i felt personally responsible for overfishing.we also had deep fried brie{again, not too testing}.we then went on to rib eye steaks,in my mind the only steak worth eating.they were perfect, really well cooked.we also went on a sunday lunch.it was a disaster.too busy and the kitchen and bar staff just couldnt cope.the bar staff were both trying to keep a really busy bar going and serve food.the carvery lunch was huge, you can take one meat or have a tasting, but the waiting was long.i noticed our sweets getting cold at the servery and ended up serving ourselves.it would have been smoother if the barstaff werent trying to be in 2 places at once.the pub professes to serve the worlds best carvery,if thats just about quantity it could be true, but quality???.the pub serves ringwood,a joy to drink, and has a passable wine list.one cracking eve and a sunday lunchtime where i felt like i was being herded about in a very hot pub.was glad to get to fresh air in the end,but the doggy bag for "alf" was huge.he wants to go again.

First thing I noted was the briefness of the comments. Although I did use these as a guide before visiting this Sunday on a trip to the ohh soo too twee New Forest.

This place signifies everything I dislike about pubs pretending to be a restaurant - high prices without the service. Far to long too wait. To be fair they did take up my comments and allow me a discount, a bit more interest whilst we were waiting would have been better! Fair to middling food, a little generic. Again to be fair haven't compared with others in the area and no doubt many of them to rip off the captive tourist.

A little dark, but probably just right on a cold winter's day refuge, shame they can't have a real fire! Odd me writing this in July/

So go there out of season, or at least not on a weekend and no doubt much more enjoyable. Plus points are the beer, and they actually put up there prices, as all pubs should but don't! And no GK IPA horay!

Quite often go for a walk and pub lunch in the Forest with a brother or two. On this occasion there were three of us so should have been lunch and three pints. Lunch, beer and atmosphere were so good we ended up having six.

Although it is well placed for the blood sucking tourists, the Filly, thankfully, seems to have a soul that makes them behave and spend. Being local, it's nice to find a boozer that welcomes locals all year round - no what I mean?

It's more than half restaurant, but the bar area is large enough for 10 tables or so. It looks like there's a big barbie area outside but I was only there on a chilly April evening so I'm not sure what goes on there. The natives were friendly, which could change as the summer comes and the New Forest gets swamped by tourists. Food was good, beer was OK, would do it all differently but I guess I wouldn't make half as much money.

Stayed here recently. Agree with Dave (the boss); the food here is very good. Seemed to be more of a 'restaurant pub' during the day. But had a nice enough atmosphere during the evening.

A short drive to Brockenhurst village centre.
