Whilst out on two walks that brought us here recently, we popped in for a couple of beers and sat out the front enjoying the first of the years warm weather. Very friendly service by the young lady behind the bar and beers were in very good condition. Prices not as high as in Southwold town itself, which seems to be the norm, where prices seem to get cheaper the further you are from the brewery. Hence the reason it's £2.90 a pint for Southwold Bitter in my local 100 miles away and not the £3.70 it was here.

Fantastic pub. Far more deserving than a 6.6. 300+ years old. Chairs seem to be made of old Adnam's barrels as they have various ales stamped on them. Wooden beams everywhere and a multitude of old photos and nautical nick-nacks to look at. Staff pleasant too and if you like fish, the fish selection on the menu is huge

Still the best Adnams pub in Southwold, a 15 min walk from the town centre. Its interior although extended retains its multi roomed, multi leveled charm. Good beer and food served, the level marker halfway up the wall at the front indicates the 1953 flood hieght.

Love visiting the harbour inn. great in the summer with all the seating both in the garden and out front looking at the river and boats. portion of chips was nice and big, and the adnams beer was great (as expected). plus, the nice 10 minute walk from southwold certanly builds the appetite for a pint on arrival.

Love this pub, brilliant in all seasons though best in Summer either out front or in the back garden looking over the marshes to the sea. Great beers on tap and the fish and chips - although pricey - is absolutely awesome, my favourite place for lunch in Southwold - also not always as packed as the pubs in the main town centre as it's a bit out of the way. Great walk back up the Blyth past the fish-shacks as well.

Late write up from 29/09/08 visit (looking back through diary).
Probably was once approached on a level with the front bar before but now you step down from a raised quay down into what is now a cozy little bar with tiled floor and bricked walls up to the flood level. The back bar is oddly and more sensibly half a floor up, just above the flood line of 1953.

Nice log burning stove in the front bar and a range of Adnams ale on offer.

A nice enough pub, but 4.30 for a pint of Aspall's Cider is an outrage.

Aspall is from Suffolk and is in every pub in the area. They can't be paying that much in transport costs to justify that price.

Would certainly put me off a return visit.

This is a lovely pub but I won't be eating here again. Two slices of liver and some "leaves" are not worth 12. Bringing some extra liver when we complained was too little too late. Some people might not mind paying extortionate prices like this, but even in central London you can get two courses for less than this in some restaurants. Having to pay an extra 2 for chips was just rubbing it in.

Expensive! Kipper and chips (oven ready) was nearly 9, plus the beer was overpriced. Friendly staff and good view back to Southwold.
Open fire was good

Arrived around 5.30 on a sunny Thursday afternoon, plenty of people on the benches in front and behind, but absolutely no-one inside, unsurprisingly. The location is everything here and the beer was naturally very well-kept, although like everywhere else in Southwold, on the expensive side. It is faintly disappointing that such a conscientous brewer as Adnams could not keep their prices lower than normal in their home town - transportation costs must be about 1p a pint, I would have thought.

We were very disappointed with our meal - we are all vegetarians and had the red pepper dish which was priced at 10.95. The food was cold when it arrived, there was very little of it and the chick pea part of it not only smelled but also tasted of disinfectant. We felt that it was extremely over priced but would have overlooked this if it had tasted good.

Although an attractive pub, the current price of 3.20 for a price of Explorer can not be justified and the fish and chips has deteriorated in quality since our first visit some 6 years ago.

A well located Pub full of character, beside the River. views across to Southwold also make the visit even more worthwhile. Within, a warm welcome awaited. Friendly staff, fine food, and reasonably well kept Adnams. However, this was spoilt by the fact that the Adnams Explorer, for example is somewhat over priced at 3.05 a pint. The Lasagne and Garlic Bread, whilst being delicious was 11+. Excellent pub, and well worth a visit, but watch the prices

Nice pub approached either by the asphalt road through the golf course or, as I prefer, via the pot holed, bone rattling habourside track

This family and dog friendly pub serves reasonable food, notably fish and chips, and does a nice line of Adnams beers. The choice areas to eat and drink is within the older, split level original pub, thought there are age limits on children being allowed access. Should the pub be busy, or should you have younger children, there is alternative seating in a large, characterless extension, or weather permitting, outside to the front of the pub overlooking the river.

Good beer and good fish & chips. A secluded spot with higgledy piggledy bars and a petanque enclosure to the rear offering splendid views across meadows to the town. Mixed crowd of locals, tourists and eccentrics - also occasional musicians playing folk hits of the 1960s. Very busy in high season, so get a table early and hang on to it. Seagulls out the front will do their damndest to drop guano on your shoulders.

A decent pub but more off the beaten track than most pubs in the town. Nice food and like most Southwold pubs it has decent service. If you're in to nautical posters and pictures of the harbour as it once was (not that much as changed) then this is the place to go.

Wonderful, well kept, Adnams ales and fantastic fish and chips, overlooking the harbour in the lovely quaint coastal town of Southwold - what could be better? Fantastic.

A very pleasant place to sit and have a beer. Adnams of course, and kept well. A couple of bars, complete with pictures showing you where not to sit whenever the next flood happens. Very busy at weekends and serves good fish and chips (although the chips appear to be Dutch!!). Best appreciated as the sun goes down and you can walk back to town across the heath.
