Now in the hands of new landlords Andy & Emma. Serving spearfished Bass, plaice, pollock. As caught by Andy and Lee from the dorset coast. Families and dogs welcome.

This is a cracking little village pub, serving great beer and bar snacks at very reasonable prices (main courses are rarely more than 6.99, some available for 4.99). Landlord Dave "Badger" Benson is the perfect host, cheerful, friendly and knowledgeable (particularly about sport!), and his wife Lin is an excellent cook. Don't come here if you want haute cuisine, but if you are looking for classic English bar snacks (specials board changes regularly) which won't hurt your wallet, then I would thoroughly recommend this pub. Also, many people just come in for a few drinks, so the atmosphere and banter is much better here than in places where everyone is eating meals. One other thing, they put a generous amount of cheese and crisps on the bar for customers to nibble on every Sunday lunchtime.

Went down to try it today only to find it doesn't open Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes.

had a very nice lunch for a party of 6. nothing was too much trouble and we were made very welcome. the range and quality of drinks was great as was the food. we had rented Coombe Cottage (very nice) and this was the local, previous reviews had little praise so with some trepidation we went in, so glad we did as we could have missed out on a lovely pub.

lunchtime ,looking for food and drink, just happen to be driving through this village, saw the pub pulled into the car park, and went inside, just a couple of workmen doing the the chimmney, who were quite pleasant, couldn,t comment on the food or drink as there was no one there too sell it,typical village pub inside, wonder should i go back and try it again,it,s some 50miles away could be a possibilty in the future if i,m that way again.i shall rate it low,you can only sell your wares if your there too sell them,N.B i found a pub further on,had a meal 3 drinks 20.00 quid in the till, say no more???

I only went into the Knatch once whilst the previos landlord was there and stayed for less than 30 seconds; ignorant b******!
The new guy is really trying to get the pub back on it's feet and has made it far more welcoming already. I now go there fairly reguarly and it's a good place to walk the dogs to.

A new landlord has recently taken over in this pub, he is a local lad and has been waiting a long time for this oppertuinity.
There is a warm welcome and good beer at this pub!

I've only been liveing in the village for 8 mounth and for the first few weeks went in the knatchbull every week untill i worked out that the cider that they serve in there gives me a mouth ulcer evey time i drink it. The land lord is very unwelcomeing and made a rude comment about my beard that he thort i couldn't hear. I would give it a miss if u have any sense. Im going to walk 2miles tonight for a drink and boycot it from now on untill the present land lord is removed by the brewery. If a negetive rating below was available I would surely use it and appaling is the most appropriate word to describe it.

Totally agree with Peter Hill, lived in village for 9 years now & been in the pub twice. Second time got totally ignored by Landlord as his 'loyal locals' got served before me. Talk about spit & sawdust, this place is crumbling away. We need this landlord out and replaced with someone who will embrace village life and give the real customers a good food & beer pub. Also he seems to like to let his dog do its business all over the carpark, anyone stumbling out after a few must be most welcome back at home after walking in that!!!!!

For over a decade the pub has been in steep decline. The reason? The landlord! The real 'locals' are treated like shit whilst 'once-a-week-willy' gets his own glass, and treated like royalty. If this pub is ever to attain its previous stature, Mr. Ferris must leave!

My family has lived in this village for centuries and the Knatchbull which my Father, my Grandfather and my Great Grandfather all frequented absolutely sucks. Dirty, no choice in beer, locals rarely go in now. The current landlord killed it. Brewery should remove him.

Two real ales on tap today - Theakstons Old Peculier and Oakhill bitter. Still no food, but it is a dog friendly pub. I use it as a base for one of my walks that includes several sink holes.
