A really attractive very old pub, lovely log fire, staff ok, BUT......... Harveys £3.90 a pint - that's seriously out of order

An absolutely fantastic pub. After cycling from Lewes we decided to stay here as well as enjoy the superb range of ales and excellent food. The accommodation was quirky and perfect for our taste. The new owners were so helpful and welcoming this is one of the best pubs we have visited on our cycle rides. Another bonus was the fantastic breakfast we were cooked which filled our bellies ready to continue our cycle ride on to our destination of cuxton. Thank you for the memorable stay

We hadnt been here for a few yonks, but popped in for a drink late on Sunday afternoon and had the most blissful Rural Pub experience ever.

Only two real ales that I noticed, but the Harveys was good and served in a jug without me asking.

After a horrendous experience at a similarly should-be-venerable rural hostelry the day before, the locals were friendly, and did not think it incumbent upon themselves to block the bar and swear loudly.

One of them had been taking his pet ferret and polecat out for a walk, and it was so funny and nice the way they were behaving; I never thought of these as being such good pets before. One of them curled up on me and went to sleep!

After the locals left, me and the Mrs. Couldnt resist going and sitting by the open fire; there was a beautiful sunset outside of the windows, an old clock ticking reassuringly, and we only realised belatedly that we had stayed over closing time the landlady hadnt mentioned this and had let us finish our drinks in contentment. We will definitely be going again. The villagers are VERY lucky.

Agree with most of the previous reviewers - a good traditional pub serving good food alongside a good selection of ales and with friendly service. Enjoyed the open log fire too!

Nice old pub but we were unlucky on our visit yesterday as there was only Harvey's and when I said it was not my favourite, the barlady asked if I wanted lager. I said I didn't so she suggested a brandy! Perhaps she was trying to be funny but I got the impression she'd had a busy day. The food was OK but a bit overpriced - 10.50 for fish & chips and 9.90 for pie & veg. As we were leaving the Larkins was being replaced - sorry to miss that. The overall experience was not favourable. Even when pubs are busy there should be more customer friendly service and choice; how long does it take to put a new barrell on? If publicans want customers to return and / or make recommendations then they need to be giving service all the time.

Smashing traditional pub. Always good beer, tasty good-value food, and a warm welcome.
One of the best in the area.

Great village pub, excellent food and very friendly. Even allowed myself and my family with a dog to sit in the pub on a very British day (Rain!!!!!) and eat, See my review on the Dorset Arms, Wytham E.Sussex which was very disappointing.

Lovely old pub. Have been visiting occasionally over the last 20 years and have always enjoyed it. Was in on Saturday and had a fine pint of Larkins.
Haven't eaten there for some time so can't comment.

Lovely position in the village..pubs like this are treasures...a pint overlooking the common..English garden surrounding....what price a piece of living nostalgia...local beers and fine Pilgrim Progress from over the border..quirky stumble to the lavatory. Interesting menu. BQ 8.8

Fantastic-looking multi-roomed pub with goodish Hareveys/Larkins - don't expect value food in Kent !

Can only agree with comment about food prices. 1.90 for an ordinary coffee (at first charged 1.80, but then - just before money put in till- staff remembered price had gone up to 1.90 and took the extra 10p off me!). Then, later, 6.90 for a very very indifferent ploughman's. Is this the most expensive ploughman's in Kent? Service formal and unwelcoming. Beer may be ok, pub is nice looking, but for food and a welcome don't bother.

He means "cliquey". I think in America people pronounce clique as "click" rather than "cleek" and this is now confusing people as to both pronounciation and spelling. Innit.

Clicky?

Very clicky the few times ive been in here ate once kicked myself for doing so

Fine pub well worth a visit. Nice beer but 6.50 for a panini? I think not. If it didn't sell food it would be a ten pointer, but I drop it down to six for daylight robbery.

Anyone wishing to experience good beer and an atmosphere reminiscent of 450 years ago should visit here. The cottages surrounding the green seem to be almost as old and give it a real feeling going back in time.

The small, quaint and cheery pub has traded since at least 1560 and appears to be older.
4 real ales including Harveys.
Excellent food.
Perfect for sitting outside on the small green and watching the world go by.
An all time favourite of mine!
