Unicorn, Kentish Townback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
A large, fairly unremarkable pub by day, rock and metal venue by night. The gigs are free of charge and attract a healthy crowd. I myself have played the punk night a couple of occasions. Some of the metal band that have played here include 'Shit Running Down my Leg', 'Cemetery Rapist', and 'Gut Wrenching Poo Death' so fun for the whole family.

1) Before it decided to turn metal was the very early 2000s. I remember seeing a metal tribute band Dead Seed here often, even though it wasn't really a 'metal' place 7 days a week. That was over a decade ago. What period is maddymads referring to, or is s/he a bit selective-remembering?
2) It's not metal before 7pm or even 8pm on a gig night, it's a relaxed, sport-showing, backwater-of-Camden area pub. You CAN have the both in the one pub, and if you are looking for a quiet pub on a gig night (which are clearly denoted on a blackboard on the outside wall) then look elsewhere and we've no sympathy for you. Being into metal and finding a decent, down-to-earth real pub venue that doesn't charge an entry fee and ISN'T PRETENTIOUS, is really difficult.
3) Metalheads are statistically supposed to have higher-than-average IQs... also I NEVER see fights at metal gigs, it's really rare compared to most other scenes. So apart from the loudness of the music, which I agree is intrusive to conversation (although I've managed to have plenty in this venue outside the back-room gig area) there's nothing wrong with being a metal pub.
4) Camden is turning or has long been a commercial sh*thole, with a few outstanding venues and scenes still mixed-in. This pub is one of the few decent places resisting that commercial, non-valuable (identikit, high-street stereotype nightlife) rubbish. So I salute it.
5) I don't even drink any more for health reasons. So I'm not reviewing the booze here. Tell you one thing I'm qualified to say, though - if a pub is crap, one can drink ones way into having a good time. If one doesn't drink, one cannot tolerate a crap pub. Many pubs out there make lots of money off the fact that their clientèle are drunk and incapable of discriminating, especially around places like Camden, Clapham, etc. This isn't a crap pub, it has enough to offer, ales aside.

I popped in here early on Saturday evening as it was starting to fill up with metal heads and a band was setting up on the stage in the back room, where the soon to be moved pool table was sitting.
As mentioned before, it is a Greene King pub with no ale and only standard draught and IPA keg.
I�m not really into heavy metal and I think that there are better pubs to go for a drink away from this area, so I won�t be returning.

Great pub, good rock/metal and good pints for under �3 (A a rarity in London).
The beer definitely tastes like they regularly clean their pipes :-D

This had changed since I last went in there. Looked to be styling itself as a music (heavy metal perhaps?) venue - there's a stage area out the back, and the landlady/barmaid was dressed all in black, Johnny Cash style. On a Sunday afternoon, it was quiet and relaxing with just a few locals supping pints and quite decent music playing. Despite the fact that it appears to be another GK pub serving no ale on handpump, I thought it was a reasonable place in an area with some lamentably poor pubs.

Went here for the first time on Saturday as The Old Kings Head is now dead and i must say what a top pub. Clean, friendly and, live bands and fair priced. Well worth going to.

New landlord, new look. The Unicorn is now a rock pub. Kev the landlord runs a friendly, welcoming place with decent (and free) live music(cover bands and originals) many nights of the week. Being a Greene King pub the prices are reasonable and the range of drinks excellent. No food, but that's no bad thing. My favourite pub in the area.

Interesting. Relatively clean place from what i can gather on my brief stop today. Pint of Carling wasn't up to scratch though, the glass was disgustingly dirty and the beer tasted rubbish anyway, so 1/6th of a pint later we are off. (Well, when the misses finished her bulmers.)

Just been done up to reflect it's greene king ownership a bit more. all draftflow beer, but a definate improvement.

Right in front of the practice studio I use with my band, so v. convenient. Also cheap, with friendly staff and big screen for watching your favourite team get beat...

The sort of pub you should go to if you're in London for a night and need to meet your boyfriend to watch the England match.
