Nice pint in this pub, and the foood is good too. Only thing is the hike to the loos.

Sutton is basiocally a Pikey shithole now, a bit like tooting a few years back (which has only got worse), over time the crap has spread through Mitchum and reached Sutton.

As pubs there go, this isn't the worst and generally people use it as a through pub before moving on elsewhere

I like this pub and contributors who allege anywhere has a lack of atmophere should examine their own personality... I am warmimg to it over the Old Bank which seems to value Chelsea fans for televised games over friendly groups wanting a few beers and a chat

I agree with the comment on the stairs to the loos, but the loos are decent compared to some places.

Wouldn't really use this as my local as not enough atmosphere and very little if no live music.

Safe enough for lone females though.

i have only been in here in the afternoon midweek and it was practically empty by then. however, i found it was very comfortable settings for a pub and the staff seemed pleasant. nice selection of beers, but i would not like to be here in the evenings or weekends when it get very busy, because i can see it getting overcrowded and too smoky.
jim.bob - 23 Apr 2007 23:19
Nothing much wrong with this place really it just seems to be suffering from too much competition. It doesn't even seem to get that busy on Big football match days. It's hard to put your finger on why it seems to have died off. Maybe most people have the same attitude as me, you tend to just walk past it on the way to somehwere else without really giving any thought to going in. Saying that i did venture in a few weeks back and didn't mind it, the staff were welcoming and the beer was OK. We only stayed for one though as there didn't seem to be a reason to stay. I actually think that one day the number of pubs in Sutton will begin to lessen and I'd probably put this at the top of the list to close first, pity as there are worse pubs in Sutton, trouble is there's also better ones

I agree with morchuboo, it is a nice enough place, nothing special.

However, this is a glowing recommendation when you compare it to most of Sutton High Street's other pubs (I use the world 'pubs' here in the loosest possible sense).

If you really are unfortunate enough to find yourself in Sutton on a Friday or Saturday night, then head here. It might just save you from getting robbed/stabbed/the clap.

And as bionicdog alludes, the stairs to the toilet are very steep, and get steeper as the night progresses.
parkhillian - 17 Nov 2006 16:24
Only go to the toilet if you are an accomplished mountaineer.

Nice enough place, nothing special. They have the normal fullers range , but the beer always tastes a bit funny. Since the refurb its nicer inside, especially round the back bit, but the rest is a bit too open. Shame the beer is dodgy because the food is excellent.
morchuboo - 19 Sep 2005 14:03
Better since the refurb but as mentioned before the beer can be rather rough. Will do for a no hassle quick drink
BB71 - 1 Aug 2005 13:02
This place is a lovely pub and looks great since the refurb.

It's a shame the beer mings, the staff are rude and the manager appears to know very little about running a pub. This place should be so much more popular and it would be with decent managment.

Don't go very much these days, too many 'lads' trying to look hard. As an ex-serviceman I can't stomach kids walking around thinking they're tough. Life is for peace and love.

The beer won't win any awards, but most people over the weekend just want to get bladdered.

I'll go back from time to time as it's not too bad generally.

I didn't know about the person dying.

However, even without that was never a big fan of this pub. Went in here at last knockings one Saturday night. Was the least busy of the pubs round, and couldn't be arsed to queue for a pint. However when I got in. However, when I say it wasn't very busy there was only about a dozen people in there. I found out why, the beer tasted disgusting. It tasted like it'd been there for years.

Would be a decent enough pub, if the beer was okay. Though, even though I went in there so I didn't have to wait for a drink, it could do with a bit more atmosphere.

I won't bother going there again.

Quality toilets - undeserved reputation just because someone once died outside - mature nice people

Just in case anyone reads this and goes to the karaoke, I now no longer do it, as I got offered a more lucrative position at another pub. It's still on there on a Thursday night though
Mandy - 21 Jun 2004 03:08
Good staff, good atmosphere. Stairs are weird to climb when drunk. Adds to the fun...
Andrew - 19 Jan 2004 20:55
well i am/was the dj at the cock and bull its the my last weekend this one coming (19th-20th september) the reason the new management gave for getting rid of me was the fact that the pub dose'nt need a dj at the weekend as its not busy enough so i would like to invite everyone who reads this to visit the pub over the next weekend and then tell me what you think by posting your comments on this page hope to see you all this weekend

I have only been into this pub on a Tuesday evening specifically for the "Karaoke". I find it to be a very friendly place, including the bar & door staff. as with any pub you get back what you give,so if they are rude to you, it is only because you have been ruder to them. The karaoke is excellent by the way. I usually drink in my local club & so I am accustomed to cheaper prices but the prices in here did not strike me as being out of the ordinary for a pub.

I seem to be following Steve about! LOL

Steve, would you like to clarify which nights you should avoid?

Perhaps you have been there on a Thursday night...very dodgy karaoke ( I run it! hehehe )

Actually, I like the C&B very much, as someone else said the doorstaff are very friendly, and it is very roomy.

Pool table is at the back of the pub, so you can play away out of the way of any music that is being conducted at the front of the pub, although it does run through the house system, so you can still hear it.

Drinks prices are not as cheap as some places I must admit, and the main toilets are upstairs, which can be a bit daunting if you've had a few and are coming back down again.

I've always found the staff very friendly, and although we will all miss Jo (manageress who has just left) we now have Sean in charge, who is starting to make his own mark on the pub.

Come down and make your own mind up!
Mandy - 25 Aug 2003 02:46
Still dodgy. Still avoid.
Steve - 22 Aug 2003 16:22
Johnny Boy, are you thick or something, the disabled toilets are downstairs at the back of the pub by the fruit machine! Music is very good here, in fact would go as far to say that music is better than long island, however never busy, so dont go there that often, have some fantastic shots which no other pub does in sutton, like toffee vodka and strawberry tequila, never and trouble in here and the bouncers are really friendly, they even open the door for you!
Luke - 11 May 2003 11:14
Advertises itself as a disabled persons friendly pub, which is great, except the disabled toilets are upstairs. MUPPETS!
Johnny Boy - 11 May 2003 10:11
I was working there in 1997. Best time i've ever had. Greetings to all folks!!!
Hermann the German - 5 Oct 2002 11:43
Had a St Trinians type thing last night, lots of girls dressed up the blokes were a bit boring though, fantastic licensee new to pub, guarantees to get it going.
Lee - 11 Aug 2002 13:42
Has got a pool table actually - OK Pub but is really close to the rat and parrot so you are better off going there
