Original Porthouse, Winchesterback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I've been to this place 6 times and only been let in once. The main reason seems to be bcos i am not a chav. Other times they've just ignored us.
I wasnt dressed correctly once whereas the group of idiots in ben sherman, shiny shoes and gold earings were let straight in.

I have never met such horrible and unpleasant door staff, they are rude and seem to pick on people for no reason.
I witnessed completely unprovoked, highly aggressive behaviour from them towards some people.
I would recommend going somewhere else in Winchester to be treated like a proper customer. Unfortunately the place is great otherwise, a good atmosphere with fun cheesy music.

The Porthouse is great, on a Thursday night you have to be there by 10pm or it is 1 in 1 out. The staff are friendly and aren't threatening at all. The drinks are cheap and the music is great. What more could u ask for?

exactly where has the £250,000 been spent??? This place is so over priced, the door staff are obnoxious and the toilets are appalling... avoid

ahhh, Seasons Red Electric, The Porthouse, I remember my salad days... Actually i don't and thats because I was always drunker than a scotsman whos just won a fiver on the lottery and this is the best, and only way to enjoy this pub/club disguised as a blot on the landscape of decency. £250,000 spent on it apparently. Could have changed the carpets at least. Bulldoze it now and give us a break from even having to think about going here after 6 pints. 'oh go on, it'll be great' we say, NO IT BLOODY WELL WONT AND IT COSTS A FIVER. Go home before its too late

... and it gets better. Five of us on Saturday, making the trek from bottom to top of town at 11pm. Now the centre of Winchester is an enclave of shit begging for a stray Scud. But, because we are lazy/alcoholics we thought a stop at the Porthouse might be a laugh.
Now there ain't a sole anywhere near the entrance of this multi-level turd, or in the foyer bit inside where people (incredibly) pay to go in. But there are a couple of birds standing idly by, one is the Porthouse's collector of cash, the other some sort of security tart with a yellow bib.
"Now then lads if you'd just like to line up outside in twos we can get you in", she says. "Erm, you what love, there's only five of us and you ain't got anyone else waiting". "Well, this is the way we do it", she replies.
The way they do what, you might ask? Simple, they're trying to make the place look busy, somewhere where people might actually plan to go. By lining up a group of halfwits on the wrong side of 30 outside. Needless to say, we went elsewhere.
For fuck sake someone, close down the Porthouse - and the rest of the pubs in the centre of Winchester. Move in some London pubs. And get some human beings to run them.

Conniwot is spot on, you'd think everytime they refurbish and spend money it would improve, but sadly not. A hell hole.

The Porthouse has changed incredible. I have been a student in winch for the last 2 yrs and have seen a dramatic change. Since Guildhall has turned into a crappy wine/ food bar and Moloko's is stupidly expensive, it's the place to be. Monday's nights house and dance, Tuesdays alternate and thursday R&B/ Hip Hop. It appeals to everyone! Best student venue in winch by far!

As a member of staff im obviously biased but i think the Porthouse is great! Friendly barstaff, good music, and a lot of very happy regulars cant lie!

Seasons, Red Electric and then the Porthouse. Whatever they call it, however they try to change it, the place remains one giant, multi-level khasi.
