user reviews of the Rising Sun, Slough

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Don't think twee folk or edgy drum n'bass would go down too well here. Their target demographic is the rock/indie /old punk crowd.
You do get a reasonable number of women in here - proportionally more than the 'Spoon I'd say. At least they've got some semi-decent beers on now.

Under new owners.Definitely improved. There's always some decent beer on.Usually at least 2.Unfortunately the bands have not improved. They play the same old music. You never get any interesting or original bands. The pub seems to cater to a certain demographic-middle aged white men often with big bellies and dodgey mullets,if they have hair that is.Few women frequent this pub.But all in all it's ok and stays open late on Friday and Saturday.

Drove past a few days ago....the boards are down and the decorators are in

Boarded up , and on the market for just over half a million...'suitable for alternative uses' apparently.
What a waste - best music venue in the area and a good bunch of regulars from the rock/biker end of the spectrum.
We've lost the Newt and Cucumber, The Grapes, The Phrenologist(Code) and the Rising Sun
Now the only pub left at this end of the High Street is the bloody Wetherspoons. Perhaps we end up with the pubs we deserve, but what have I done to deserve that ? I'm going to start drinking in Windsor I think.

A girl called Andy Pandy?
I'm sure the BBC wasn't so PC in those days, or he wouldn't have beeen allowed in the box with Looby-Loo.
I agree with Hotlover about the good music, though. There's not a lot of it about in the area. But on a recent visit to the Thursday jam night, I couldn't help noticing that at least some of the acres of leather was wrapped around attractive young ladies. Maybe it was Ladies Night.

Excuse me Mr Hotlover, but I'm a girl and i go in the rising sun to drink, its a nice pub, so leave it alone. The big bonus about the pub is theres no silly pop music played in there, it's all proper music, and they serve real beer!!!

If you like pubs filled with ugly blokes, then Friday and Saturday nights here are for you. There is no talent and when any ladies walk in I ave never seen so many Garfield impressions, that they turn round and leave.
There has to be something wrong, when single blokes all stand around in a pub with no women!!!!
Really friendly doormen, not!
Music is good though, but its the same old bands, how about some tribute bands?
It is about the best pub in Slough, besides the Herschel, which aint difficult

Use this pub at lunchtimes. Definitely the best for office types as the place is not full of winos like the other pubs in Slough town. Try the Cajun chicken wraps - awesome. Beer generally in excellent condition - normally London pride and another.

Good rock pub - excellent place for live bands.

I agree with Meach's comment about the pub - and about pubs in Slough in general!
Kevinturvey - 2 Jun 2005 15:13
Best Pub in the High Street area. That's not difficult though
