The Ridley Arms is a lovely building from the outside. It has less character inside. But it still has a good range of ales and fairly friendly staff. Ales on during our Saturday evening visit were Ossett Pale Gold, Big Lamp Bitter, Black Sheep Best Bitter, Anarchy Blonde Star, Out There Space Is The Place & Cumberland Corby Blonde. I think this used to be a Fitzgeralds pub. But I'm not sure whether or not it still is.

Went back with guests and was good but nothing overly special. Food was ok, if a bit pricey, staff were friendly and helpful. I'd go back for sure, but it's a bit out of the way for me.

Real ales good but overpriced. I had to chase the barman to find where my meal was after an hour, while the place was almost empty. The chef was standing chatting. When it eventually arrived it was almost inedible and would have been sent back if I hadn't been starving. The so called garlic bread was a soggy, oily piece of bread, almost cold. Just drive past. It's awful.

Good food, and plenty of it! Struggled to finish the fish and chips! Pleasant atmosphere, but can get very busy very fast. Friendly staff and decent prices. Plan to go back there in a months time with a larger party, wil see if it's still of a high standard.

We went to this pub because we had been told the food was great, all 6 of us came away thinking the same, we wont go back again.

The following meats were all dry tough and had obviously been kept warm for far too long, pork, beef, chicken, lamb, the fish was ok but only because it had to be freshly cooked. The veg was only just warm and more on the uncooked side of crisp.

The puddings, Cheesecake was nice, the apple pie was huge and nice, the crumble would have made great hardcore, and the ice cream they only had to put into a glass so that was ok, although at 2 a scoop rather overpriced.

We had to ask for knives and forks and serving spoons for the veg, they then tried to charge us not only for our food but also a party of four at another table.

Come on Ridley Arms, its a lovely pub that could be really great.

Better than the standard pub fare - the specials are well worth trying as they are usually very good. The sausages are excellent - so is the seafood!! However some food is pre-prepared and occasionally either re-heated or overcooked and I've had to return a couple of meals. The waiting staff however are excellent and replacements have been quick to arrive without and problems at all.

Real ale and draft beers offer a good selection and the celler is well kept - I've never had to take a pint back (I wish I could say this of more pubs). The bar staff are friendly and efficient.

The landlord and landlady are often around and are most eager to hear comments - good and bad.

One of the best eateries in the Tyneside area. Food is good, menu varied and staff helpful.

We were looking for a pub midway between Haggerston Castle, where some friends were staying, and Chesterle Street. We looked at the review posted in 2005 and were almost tempted not to book up. However, we did and have been well pleased with the result. There were 8 of us in total including 2 young teenagers with a meal booked for 8pm. By 9pm we had all been served with piping hot food by pleasant staff who couldn't do enough for us. The portions were plentiful and cooked to perfection. Don't take our word for it. Go see for yourself.

We visited this pub whilst on holiday in the area and my girlfriend chose the lamb from the menu. It was very disappointing being tough and grisly and not enjoyable. What was even more disappointing was the total apathy of the serving staff when this was pointed out to them. After it became clear that no one was going to approach us to offer an apology or explanation we decided to forgo any desert or another drink and left. All food has to be paid for at the bar when ordered so you dont even have a chance to complain to someone when settling the bill or to refuse to pay for sub standard food. We gave the place a wide berth for the rest of the stay and found better eating establishments in he area.

A lovely pub in the small village of Stannington, just south of Morpeth, which is a lot bigger inside that you first expect! This is a pub in the modern style - certainly not neon and chrome, but new furniture, limed woodwork and original features, with real fires for the winter evenings.

At least 4 real ales are served at the bar, and the food in the seperate (non smoking) dining area is excellent - well cooked, traditional pub fayre. Highly recommended!
