user reviews of the Hare, Langton Green

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

This is a good food pub. Prices are perhaps a little on the steep side, but compares well with the others in the area. For just a drink with Friends, not so great.

An average selection of beers, nothing remarkable - enough to keep folk happy.

Food is consistently good, as is the service, and you can find one of Kent's better Sunday Lunches here. Its a good family pub, plenty of space, and other reviewers comments about no children's menu are not accurate - everything is available in child's portions and they will happily make any kids food to order.

Nice garden with a field makes it particularly enjoyable in the Summer. I've been here around 9 times now, and each time has been fine, never any problems, so a good consistent Pub.

If you are using your satnav to get there, beware. TomTom directed us to a point on the Langton Road miles to the east of where the pub actually is. Asking satnav for Town Centre/Langton Green would be the answer.

Arrived around 2pm on a Saturday and there was no parking to be had for love nor money. It's a large and popular pub with restricted parking. But after doing an errand, we returned a little later and found a space.

Lunch was excellent.Grilled chicken breast with stilton topped bubble-and-squeak anf mushroom gravy for me, steak and venison suet pudding for my partner. And the apple and berry crumble with custard was 10/10.

Had house red as nothing appealed from the beer taps. They did have Biddenden cider, but the 8% job, which didn't seem like a lunchtime tipple.

Staff and service were truely superb.

We would go back to eat there in a heartbeat, but I'd not say it was a beer drinkers pub, given the satiff comptetition.

I can only think that this pub must have changed loads since tantan went in 2009 and I started going in 2010. It is SO family friendly. OK so it doesnt have lots of climbing frames and swings in the garden but to be honest they always look so ugly anyway that it would spoil a very pretty outside area on the village green. It does indeed get busy so book a table. But the food is great. They are very tolerant of kids not matter how restless they are getting. They have highchairs, change station in the ladies and do kid sized portions. We always go there when I have family in town as they cannot be more accommodating of large numbers so it gets a big thumbs up from me and my family!

A Greene King house with 6 ales on: IPA (3.20), Ruddles Bitter, Morlands Bitter, Hansons & Hardy's Olde Trip (3.60), and Abbot Ale & St Edmunds (3.80). By no means cheap unless you are there between 5:00 & 7:00 Mon-Fri when there is 60p off a pint.

More of an eating than a drinking establishment with an extensive menu that mirrors the beer in its prices. Lots of space to sit and reasonable service.

At least the beers we sampled were well kept.

Nice clean roomy pub, but not child friendly at all. No high chairs, no kids menu, no changin facilities, and kids have to be out by 7pm.

Food pretty good, but 10 for a burger and chips, it's pretty pricey.

Can get very busy at weekends, but a nice atmosphere exists within.

Went with family and was well satisfied with the service, food and price. More of an eaterie than a pub, always welcoming and maintains a good standard. The Abbot Ale was top notch so had 2 pints and the wife drove home. Bless her!

Pretty roomy pub - quite laid back. Only negative is the food - some silly prices for mediocre food.

Exactly the sort of pub one might expect the well-to-do of 'Royal' Tunbridge Wells to visit for Sunday lunch - others might find it a little dull and rather expensive at 3 plus per pint. Didn't stop to eat, but the food looked nice.

Is expensive but it is rubbish that it has gone downhill - The food is still excellent and Chris is doing a great job
mightyhawk - 8 Sep 2006 12:06
Anything half decent in tunbridge wells is more expensive! Id rather pay a bit more here and not have to put up with some of the idiots that frequent Tunbridge wells hence this place is worth coming to and paying slightly more.
juzza - 7 Sep 2006 17:36
flippin expensive!

Possibly the best pub for miles.

We visit regularly from London to get a bit of country air and a warm reception in a friendly pub! Chris is a great manager - I should know, I've been going there since Brian was there and while it isn't the same pub it was, it's still a great venue for a superb lunch/dinner in a country setting.

Ive been drinking in the hare for a while and the comments (has taken a dive since Brian left) are a tad unfair its very true to say that yes Brian was and is a great host Im abseloutly positve he will work his magic on his most recent venture the brown jug, Chris the present manager has had a extremely big act to follow and in my opinion has done well the Hare is still one of the top pubs in the area.

Really taken a dive since Brian left.

Cracking gastro-pub just outside T/Wells. The food is really a cut above. Fantastic Roasts, alongside some excellent creations. The menu is also changed daily. Nice seating area out back for the summer a good selection of Real ales and possibly the largest selection of malts you will see!!

"The Hare sits in the village of Langton Green, a pleasing, well-to-do suburb of Tunbridge Wells on the edge of the rolling, narrow-laned Kent countryside"

The Hare is a very pleaseant pub and is frequented by A's,B's & C1's. Sunday lunch is pretty good and resonably priced. On Sunday lunch time they tend to keep food going until the last person is fed, so always a good place if you havent managed to book anywhere, you're running a late lunch and maybe prepared to wait. Good atmostphere during the week, but it's prime day seems to be Sundays when you cant stop tripping over Barbour wearing, 4x4 driving, middle Englanders. Well recommended!
