No longer Bar Vin or Orange Rooms. Changed to Sherbet (which I've seen with huuuuge queues outside on weekend nights).

Bar Vin is no more - it is now The Orange Rooms which caters for a young hip crowd with a solid line up of decent dance music.

Decent pub with Live sports, friendly manager and welcoming during the week

very friendly bar staff, a decent pint served well. very quiet for a wednesday in general. lacks character, somewhat like a dark airport lounge. didnt eat but from the chaps next to us the food looked very good value for money.

Bar Vin is still open for business as mentioned by Johnkn7 below. As he says it was Bar Med (below the Quadrant Centre) that closed, and will be reopening on Monday 18th August as a Lloyds No1 bar. I wish the Mary Shelley well but remain a regular of Bar Vin.

Despite what it says on the heading this place is not closed.

Are you sure about that Runningdog? Bar Med has closed and will re-open as a lloyds No 1 bar but as far as I'm aware wetherspoons have no designs on Bar Vin.

As far as the comment by smash goes, it's fair to say that this is the best place on Old Christchurch Road because they look after the beer if nothing else but the best pub in Bournemouth?

What better than The Brunswick, The Porterhouse, Goat and Tricycle, Commmodore and Dean Park Inn to name but five?
johnkn7 - 13 Jul 2008 10:54
Closed. Rumoured to be reopening as a Lloyds Bar.

Older crowd with strict door policy to keep the youngsters out. Reasonable staff. Decent drinks of all types. A good place to try out if you're new to Bournemouth and you want to avoid the puking louts. Toilets a bit grotty though.

Decent enough pub on a street full of big-windowed chain blandery. Serves a decent pint of Ringwood and there's plenty of staff to do just that.

Decent pint of London Pride 2 Be Had,8/10

Looking forward to visiting Bar Vin last weekend, always a favourite. What a disappointment. Since my last visit around a year ago this venue has slipped downhill & seems to be catering for the rowdier element & augments the atmosphere with pounding club sounds. My initial uncomfortable reaction was confirmed when a fight broke out directly in front of my group! In the past it has been difficult to drag myself away until closing time - now I couldn't wait to leave!

Unfortunately BV has declined somewhat in recent months. Best avoided on Fri/Sat evening after about 8pm but outside these times this place is still chilled out, and on the plus side, cheap real ale (by Bmth standards) and very good, reasonably priced food to boot!

Nice place, never had a crap drink in there. Staff are pleasent. Good atmosphere, and is over 21's only which is a bonus.

Sadly, this is my local. Sadly, because I'm used to much better pubs (either the 'old and mucky' or 'gastropub' sort), and Bournemouth seems devoid of these. However, in the vicinity of Old Christchurch Road, Bar Vin does quite well. Staff are always friendly, and there are plenty of seating options for muso's, sports fans, groups of friends and couples who want to curl up on the sofa.

Furthermore they not only serve ales, but quite well-kept too. Currently Ringwood 49'er and Fuller's London Pride. As others have said, much much better than the Shitten Tree up the road.

Clientele seems to be those who just want to have a drink and a laugh, rather than a punch-up. But I do tend to go alone and on a Sunday, so don't really know what it's like on a busy evening.

The Bottle Beer Fridge is an Oven.

Excellent pub with good range of drinks and food, plus large dance floor for the evenings. Seems to attract the more mature, trouble free clientele. My only criticism is that it can look dark inside during the daytime. But had many good nights in Bar Vin.

In a word, quality.

Decent atmosphere day or evening. Party on Friday or Saturday and sometimes live bands on Thursdays. Super efficient bar staff and management and cheap food menu till quite late. Now has Big Screen TVs so much better for all sporting events. A million times better than the plastic Litten toilet up the road.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food and great beer. Long may it continue!

Can't praise this venue enough, particularly when compared to other bars nearby. Barstaff friendly & efficient, clientele on average slightly older & the music at a reasonable level so even if you're not drunk enough to dance you can hold a decent conversation. Sounds like I'm getting old!

This is a really nice friendly pub - the staff are great and really helpful, and the sunday lunches are really yum, and great value. not full of pretencious bournemouth Posh Spice/Beckham wannabees either. good atmoshere

One of the more classier bars on Christchurch road (not saying a lot I know!), this place is ridiculously expensive but that does seem to keep the kids out.
A bit lacking on atmosphere due to its size but does a good sleection of beers and wine for the more sophisticated drinking (I counted 6 different champagnes! Is that a record for Bournemouth?!)

In a word - nice.

I like this pub, even though it falls into the 'church chairs' category. Its big and airy, does cheap cocktails through the week, relatively quiet and the staff are pleasant. One of the better pubs on the street.
LondonScottish - 20 Dec 2004 21:42
Slightly better than some of the places on Old Christchurch Road which has become chain pub hell over the past decade or so. They actually do a decent pint of Ringwood 49er which was a surprise. Of a weekend, clietele tends towards those celebrating hen/stag nights although a more ahem sober crowd can be found during the week.
